Son of actor from ‘The Wire' thrown 300 feet by Georgia tornado. ‘Wish it was me'

Miami Herald30-05-2025
An actor best known for his work on 'The Wire' is asking for prayers after his son was thrown several hundred feet from their Georgia home during a tornado.
Tray Chaney, who played 'Poot' on the hit HBO series, said his 18-year-old son, Malachi Chaney, suffered broken ribs and a fractured bone in his face after the twister touched down Thursday, May 29, near Locust Grove, WANF reported.
The teen was found 300 feet away in the woods behind the house, his dad said. He remained in the ICU on May 30 with his mother and father at his side.
'I can't get myself together right now I wish it was me that was in ICU rather than him,' Tray Chaney said in a statement posted on his Instagram page. 'I crawled from under my house with a big knot on my head, vomiting but his injuries are much more (worse).'
Tray Chaney also shared video of the damage, showing a pile of rubble and debris where the family's home once stood.
The tornado struck at about 3:30 p.m, carving a path just west of Interstate 75 between Locust Grove and McDonough, Keith Stellman, meteorologist in charge at the National Weather Service's Atlanta office, told McClatchy News. Crews were still assessing the damage as of May 30.
Much of the Atlanta metro area was under severe weather alerts the afternoon of May 29, including a tornado warning for Henry County, according to NWS Atlanta.
Tray Chaney said what began as a fun day with his son was suddenly upended by the violent storm.
'I was unconscious on the ground with my face in the mud with parts of my house on top of me,' he wrote, recalling the frightening incident. 'I woke up in a panic crawled from under my house screaming my son's name out.'
'Hug your loved ones now,' Tray Chaney wrote. 'Life just changed for me & mine! We'll never be the same.'
Locust Grove is about a 40-mile drove southeast from downtown Atlanta.

Elizabeth Hurley twins in matching animal-print bikini with 85-year-old mom

Like mother, like daughter! Elizabeth Hurley is matching with her mom, Angela Hurley. Hurley shared a sweet snap Thursday, July 31, on Instagram in honor of her mom's 85th birthday. In the photo, the mother-daughter duo sported matching swimsuits from her own line, Elizabeth Hurley Beach. The women wore animal-print bikini swim sets paired with white cotton emboidered kaftans that served as chic cover-ups. "Twinning with my mama," Hurley captioned the photo. "We just celebrated her 85th birthday, in @elizabethhurleybeach of course." Her 23-year-old son and model Damian Hurley joined in on the cute family moment, commenting three red heart emojis. In recent months, Hurley's shocking romance with music industry patriarch Billy Ray Cyrus has heated up the headlines (and her Instagram feed). Trace Cyrus says Billy Ray Cyrus made legal threat after he claimed dad needs help The day before posting the swimsuit pictures, Hurley posted a sweet selfie with her new man on Instagram: "Oh my… pic 1 is a tortoise we found in the garden in Tennessee at Easter… and pic 2 is one we just found one in Herefordshire! All hail," she captioned the picture. The "Strictly Confidential" star first revealed the pair's romance in an idyllic outdoor photo in April. Standing next to Hurley in a photo was country singer-songwriter Billy Ray Cyrus, the 63-year-old musician wore a denim shirt with striped pants and a bunny ears headband, planting a kiss on Hurley's cheek as she cheerily posed against a fence in a blue flannel shirt and matching jeans. "Happy Easter ♥️," Hurley wrote. The "Little House on the Prairie" Instagram account captured the internet's reaction to the pairing, commenting "Wait….what?" The romance comes after a difficult period for her "Achy Breaky Heart" hitmaker beau. Nearly a year ago, Cyrus finalized his contentious divorce with ex-wife Firerose in August 2024. The former couple, who were married for seven months, accused each other of spousal abuse in the months leading up to their divorce settlement.

'Sex and the City' fans celebrate, mourn ending of 'And Just Like That...' spinoff

"I know this season has been a trainwreck overall, but why do I feel sad?" TikTok creator Kayla Charisse said in a video on Friday, Aug. 1. Carrie Bradshaw will soon be penning her last column, and fans are sharing mixed reactions. The "Sex and the City" spinoff, "And Just Like That...," will end following the Season 3 finale, executive producer Michael Patrick King wrote in a social media statement on Aug. 1. The series premiered in 2021, 17 years after "Sex and the City" concluded in 2004. "I wanted this show to run until all the characters were in assisted living and retirement communities in West Palm Beach," one Instagram user commented on King's statement, followed by a crying emoji. King said while writing the last episode of "And Just Like That...," he felt it was a "wonderful place to stop." In a lengthy Instagram post, Parker shared her passion for the series and, of course, her beloved character, who worked as a newspaper columnist and overall fashion enthusiast. "Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all," Parker wrote. And just like that, it's over: 'And Just like That' fans spot major Season 3 plot hole When does 'And Just Like That...' Season 3 end? The two-part finale of "And Just Like That..." will air on Aug. 7 and Aug. 14 on HBO Max. 'We don't want it to end' Since its first airing in 2021, "And Just Like That..." has received widespread criticism. Fans say the characters have strayed too far from their original selves (despite the once 30-somethings now being in their 50s), the plot is inconsistent, and overall, the spinoff relies far too heavily on nostalgia. In the most recent season, fans grew upset when a friend of the main cast, Lisa Todd Wexley (played by Nicole Ari Parker), called Charlotte (Kristen Davis) to inform her that her father had died suddenly from a stroke. But Wexley had already informed her friends in Season 1 that her father had died the previous year. In the comment section of King's statement, fans said the "Sex and the City" gals deserved more. "We don't want it to end," one Instagram user commented. "We want it to be better." Others were a bit more strongly worded with their feedback. "And just like that, we are being released from this hostage, hate-watch situation," TikTok creator Sabrina Bendory said in a video posted on Friday, Aug. 1. "This is not surprising because the writers clearly have no idea how to write for these characters anymore. Maybe once upon a time they did, but they have no idea now." 'And Just Like That...": Sarah Jessica Parker speaks out in emotional message about 'AJLT' ending Fans share distress over story's end Not all fans have been unhappy with "And Just Like That..." though, and they took to social media to share their mutual heartbreak. "I know this season has been a trainwreck overall, but why do I feel sad?" TikTok creator Kayla Charisse said in a video on Friday, Aug. 1. "Like, what are we going to hate watch together every Thursday? And it just finally started getting good. The bar was in hell but like, I really enjoyed last night's episode. The term bittersweet comes to mind." Viewers also expressed their sadness in the comments of King's social media statement. "It's the end of an era all over again," one Instagram user commented, referencing the "Sex and the City" finale from 2004. Ex-Steelers RB Cordarrelle Patterson goes viral after claiming he's 'jobless'

Cordarrelle Patterson's Steelers tenure didn't end the way he had hoped — but that hasn't stopped the All-Pro kick returner from creating comedy out of the situation. After hilariously revealing on social media that he had been released on his day off, Patterson took to Instagram with an even funnier take — claiming he was "jobless" with a photo of him mopping floors. Despite an uneventful, injury-riddled 2024 season with Pittsburgh, Patterson's legacy as one of the greatest kick returners of all time is unmatched. Steelers fans will best remember Patterson for entertaining attempts to recruit big-name wide receivers to Pittsburgh — such as Davante Adams, DK Metcalf, and Mike Williams, the latter of whom actually wound up in the Steel City this season. One has to wonder how much Patterson has left in the tank at 34 years old, but considering his four First-Team All-Pro selections, three Second-Team All-Pro selections, four Pro Bowl nominations, and being named to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, it's safe to say he's deserving of First-Ballot Hall of Fame consideration.
