Careem Plus members get free delivery, even on low-priced solo orders
Abu Dhabi, UAE: Careem announces the launch of 'Meals:On' in Abu Dhabi - a new Careem Food feature designed to simplify solo food orders and make high-quality meal deals more affordable for customers ordering alone.
Ordering a solo meal often feels expensive, with a lack of reasonably priced meal bundles. Careem Food's 'Meals:On' solves this by offering a curated selection of complete, high-quality meal deals from top local and international restaurants, all priced under AED 29. Most meals include a main dish, side salad, and drink and can be found in a dedicated section on Careem Food for easy one-tap ordering.
Careem's data indicates that over 64% of Careem Food customers in the UAE typically order for one during lunch hours. 'Meals:On' caters to that majority, drawing inspiration from Munch:On, the solo-meal platform Careem acquired in 2022, and has been rebuilt within Careem Food to meet the needs of today's solo diner.
Following its Abu Dhabi debut, 'Meals:On' will roll out in Dubai in the coming weeks and expand to include options for two or more people, meal plans, meal scheduling, and bundles for small groups.
Jaskaran Singh, VP of Careem Food, commented: 'Our purpose at Careem is to simplify life in the region, and with this launch we're doing just that for solo diners. Whether it's lunch during a busy workday or a quick dinner after hours, customers often feel overwhelmed by the choices and feel like they're paying too much for each meal. Meals:On eliminates that friction by making high-quality, affordable meals available with minimal effort.'
Imad El Fay, VP of Growth at Kitopi, added: "We're excited to partner with Careem on the launch of Meals: On to make it easier and more affordable for customers to enjoy great food, especially when ordering for one person. This initiative aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver magical food experiences at scale, and we're proud to feature many of our brands in this curated collection.'
Meals:On boats a number of popular Abu Dhabi restaurants including Wagamama, Wingstop, Just Burger, Zaatar w Zeit, Barbar, Papa Johns, Right Bite, Sushi Do, Costa, Allo Beirut, and more. Careem Plus members also enjoy free delivery on Meals:On orders, even if the order value is below AED 30 - a benefit designed specifically for solo meal purchases.
Careem Plus members also enjoy benefits across Careem's other services, including exclusive discounts and free delivery on food and grocery orders, up to 50% off dining bills with Careem DineOut, member-only rates on international transfers through Careem Pay, cashback on rides, and more.
To try Meals:On, customers in Abu Dhabi can download the latest version of the Careem app and tap on 'Meals:On' under Careem Food.

Non-oil sector fuels 3.4% GDP growth in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi's economy continues to show strong momentum in 2025, with new data from the Statistics Centre–Abu Dhabi revealing a GDP of AED 291 billion in the first quarter, up 3.4 per cent year-on-year. The non-oil sector led the growth, expanding 6.1 per cent to AED 163.6 billion and contributing over 56 per cent of total GDP for the first time. Key drivers include manufacturing, construction, finance and trade, reflecting the emirate's successful diversification strategy. Manufacturing led the way, contributing AED 28.5 billion, while construction rose over 10 per cent to AED 27.5 billion. The financial sector added AED 19.6 billion, bolstered by increased investment in Abu Dhabi Global Market and a surge in assets under management. Population growth, which hit 4.14 million in 2024, is helping to fuel demand across sectors. Dubai launches new scheme to help expats and Emiratis buy their first home

Dubai has introduced the First-Time Home Buyer Programme to make it easier and more affordable for residents, both expatriates and Emiratis, to purchase their first homes. The program offers priority access to new property launches, special pricing on units up to AED 5 million, and mortgage solutions tailored to buyers' needs, Dubai Media Office reported. Launched on Wednesday by the Dubai Land Department (DLD) and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), the initiative was unveiled in the presence of representatives from major banks and real estate developers. It supports Dubai's goal to increase homeownership and double the real estate sector's contribution to the economy by 2033. Designed for all nationalities and income levels, the program is open to applicants aged 18 and above who live in the UAE and do not currently own freehold residential property in Dubai. 'By lowering entry barriers to homeownership for Emiratis and expatriates alike, we are enhancing investor confidence, increasing market absorption rates, and reinforcing Dubai's global positioning as a city where personal aspirations and business ambitions converge,'His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of DET, said. His Excellency Omar Bu Shehab, Director General of DLD, noted that the programme aligns with the Dubai Real Estate Strategy 2033 and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, aiming to make homeownership more accessible while encouraging long-term investment among residents. Participating banks include Commercial Bank of Dubai, Dubai Islamic Bank, Emirates NBD, Emirates Islamic, and Mashreq Bank, all offering mortgage products tailored for eligible first-time buyers. Meanwhile, leading real estate developers such as Azizi Developments, Beyond Developments, Binghatti Holding, DAMAC Properties, Danube Properties, Dubai Properties, Ellington Properties, Emaar Properties, Majid Al Futtaim Group, Meraas, Nakheel, Palma Holding, and Wasl have committed their support to the programme.

DMW thanks Emirates NBD, UAE gov't for continued zero-fee remittances to the Philippines

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates government and Emirates NBD after the bank confirmed that money transfers to the Philippines will continue to be free of charge under its DirectRemit service. Starting September 1, 2025, Emirates NBD will begin charging a nominal fee of up to AED 26.25 (inclusive of VAT) on most cross-border transfers to over 30 new countries, as part of its expanded DirectRemit offerings. However, transfers to the Philippines, as well as to India, Pakistan, Egypt, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom, will remain free for all Emirates NBD customers. Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac thanked both Emirates NBD and the UAE government for ensuring that OFWs in the country can continue to send money home without additional costs. 'We likewise express our sincere gratitude to the UAE Government and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation for fostering a supportive environment for migrant communities. Their cooperation ensures that OFWs can continue sending financial support to their loved ones without additional costs,' said Cacdac. Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show that around 700,000 Filipinos lived in the United Arab Emirates as of 2023, with approximately 600,000 working as overseas Filipino workers. The Philippines remains one of the world's top recipients of remittances, which serve as a key source of income for millions of Filipino families.
