Cashel Barnett has been charged with domestic violence in Salt Lake City.
Cashel Barnett, known for his stint on Love Island USA, has landed in serious legal trouble. The reality TV personality is currently in custody in Salt Lake City, Utah, following disturbing accusations involving his ex-girlfriend and their young daughter.
Local authorities confirmed that Barnett was taken into custody on Monday and is being held without bail. The charges stem from a violent incident that allegedly took place earlier in April but was only brought to police attention a couple of weeks later.
According to details first reported by TMZ, the alleged altercation occurred on April 10. The victim claims that Barnett became physically aggressive, reportedly slapping her multiple times before lifting her by the neck and attempting to strangle her in front of their 1-year-old child. She reported the incident to law enforcement on April 24.
Barnett, 33, voluntarily turned himself in, his legal team stated. Prosecutors have filed multiple charges against him in connection to the alleged assault. The case is currently under investigation.
Barnett is facing serious charges: felony aggravated assault, felony domestic violence in front of a child, and two counts of misdemeanour assault. TMZ also reports that investigators are looking into another alleged violent incident by the same woman, which could lead to more charges. He's being held at the Salt Lake City jail and is due back in court Thursday for a detention hearing, where the judge will decide if he gets bail.
His attorney, Andrew K. Deesing, told NBC they're still gathering facts and won't say more until after that hearing.
