Revival of Kempegowda fort, name changes on agenda
At the heart of this high-stakes gathering is a Rs 103-crore proposal to restore the historic fort of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda in Magadi, which is largely in ruins. The fort, partially still standing after so many centuries, is a symbol of Bengaluru's origins. The government now wants to revive, beautify, and restore it to its original glory. Though the initial proposal pegs the cost at Rs 103 crore, insiders admit this may be just the beginning. More budgetary allocations may follow in the coming years.
Considering the venue, the spotlight is firmly on Chikkaballapur and neighbouring Kolar districts. In Kolar, the cabinet is set to transfer land to the Kuruba Sangha to build a hostel, with the land proposed to be handed over by the Kolar City Development Authority. A long-pending demand to rename Bagepalli to 'Bhagyanagar' is likely to be discussed, and a note supporting the name change is on the table.
There is also a fresh push to rename Bengaluru Rural district as 'Bengaluru North', a move justified by the earlier bifurcation that led to the creation of Ramanagara district. Among the other decisions, Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) is seeking to transfer massive land assets to a new company, BLAL.
Water woes of Chikkaballapur are being addressed with urgency. While the Yettinahole project remains tied in delays in spite of the farmers unrest, the state has a new proposal: to fill 164 tanks in the district with treated water from the second stage of the Hebbal-Nagawara Valley Project. The massive plan, costing Rs 137.10 crore, aims to replenish water bodies in Chikkaballapur, Chintamani taluk, and nearby areas, particularly to tide over the dry spell between January and May, 2026.
The Government Boys College may receive Rs 40 crore for infrastructure upgrades, while the Women's College seeks Rs 20 crore for essential amenities, including drinking water and sanitation. Bangalore North University, currently operating from Amaravati village, is seeking Rs 123.5 crore for Phase 2 of its new campus. A cabinet note has been attached for administrative approval.

Khalistani Terrorist Behind 16 Punjab Blasts Being Brought To India From US
New Delhi: US-based Khalistani terrorist Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passia, who was arrested in April and sent to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody, is now being brought to India, sources told NDTV on Monday. Singh is wanted in connection with at least 16 terror attacks across Punjab and is alleged to have collaborated with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Khalistani terrorist group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Singh, who has also carried out multiple hand grenade attacks on police stations in Punjab and the US, faces more than 30 criminal cases. A resident of Amritsar, Punjab, Singh was arrested in the US on April 18 by teams of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the ICE. Kash Patel, the FBI Director, had assured that 'justice will be done' following his arrest. 540-crore DA case: Majithia sent to 14-day judicial custody
A Mohali court on Sunday sent senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia to 14-day judicial custody in connection with an alleged Rs 540-crore disproportionate assets case. Majithia was produced before the court amid tight security and was sent to New Nabha Jail, until the next hearing on July 19. Also, he had recently moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the disproportionate assets case, in which the next date of hearing has been fixed for July 8. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau raided Majithia's Amritsar residence, and arrested him in the disproportionate assets case on June 25 for allegedly laundering more than Rs 540 crore of 'drug money'. Majithia was initially sent to seven-day police remand by the court, which was later extended by another four days. Following the completion of custodial interrogation, he was produced before the court on Sunday, which further sent him to 14-day judicial custody. Addressing the media outside the court, Majithia's legal counsel and senior SAD leader Arshdeep Singh Kaler slammed the ongoing investigation and said: 'The Vigilance Bureau has no solid evidence. This seems more like a media trial than a case grounded in legal merit… The government only wants to suppress the voice of the Akali Dal… They only created media hype around the case.' Meanwhile, Additional Advocate General Ferry Sofat said 'under revised legal provisions, the Bureau still holds the right to seek an additional three-day police remand, even after the judicial custody — provided a fresh application is filed in court'.

State unveils strategy to combat climate change
Vijayawada: In a significant move to bolster environmental resilience and align with national goals, the State government has adopted a comprehensive five-point climate strategy. This initiative aims at reducing carbon emissions, achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs), support the Union government's mission to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The strategy underscores Andhra Pradesh's ambition to become a leading State in clean energy transition and climate mitigation. Chief Secretary K Vijayanand announced the plan following a high-level meeting with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power (MoP), Government of India. The Chief Secretary said that in collaboration with BEE, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), and Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL), AP will significantly scale up EE adoption across key sectors. The State aims to attract Rs 8,000 crore in EE investments by FY 2031, contributing substantially to national climate action goals, given that energy efficiency alone accounts for 40 per cent of emission reduction potential. This will also help reduce energy bills and improve power quality. He also said that under the Integrated Clean Energy Policy (ICEP) 2024, the government is targeting the creation of a robust renewable energy ecosystem capable of generating 78 GW of solar power and 35 GW of wind power, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a hub for green power generation. A Statewide campaign is underway to plant one crore saplings on a single day and 5.58 crore saplings over the next year. The State will study and replicate international EE best practices, particularly in the building, industrial, and MSME sectors, with support from BEE, EESL, and the Ministry of Power and Rural Development. Apart from this, through the AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), the government will launch extensive awareness programmes involving all key departments, academic institutions, and private/public stakeholders. A special focus will be placed on student participation through the establishment of Energy Clubs in schools and colleges, recognizing youth as crucial agents of change, he said. As part of efforts to boost regional cooperation for enhancing Energy Efficiency through effective communication strategies, BEE's Southern India Media Adviser A. Chandrasekhar Reddy recently met Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand. During their discussion, the Chief Secretary shared that the Chief Minister has called for a time-bound implementation of energy efficiency programmes across various departments. In a significant development for the MSME sector, the Fisheries cluster in West Godavari district has been selected by the BEE under its 'Energy-Intensive Clusters' programme for the adoption of global best-in-class EE technologies. A high-level delegation from Delhi's Energy Efficiency division is expected to visit Andhra Pradesh shortly to further refine the department-wise action plan and ensure its timely and effective implementation.
