Euroleague boss ready to enter talks with NBA over new European league
NBA commissioner Adam Silver, speaking at a press conference on Thursday with International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Secretary General Andreas Zagklis, said the league felt it was " the time to move to the next stage" after having long considered opportunities in Europe.
"When they talk about big teams, big names, I cannot imagine this potential league without us," Motiejunas told French sports daily L'Equipe.
"Can we talk about the best product possible without the Euroleague teams, their fans, our market, the culture, the passion and the history that goes with it?"
The initial plan is to have a 16-team European league made up of 12 permanent clubs and four that would have to qualify on a yearly basis. The Euroleague features 18 teams.
Motiejunas said he was willing to enter talks with the NBA, even if the Euroleague does not seem to be included in the NBA's "exploration", although no firm plans have been announced yet.
"We are always ready to sit down and explore together the best solution to offer an even better product. We see positively the fact that the NBA wants to explore the European market with FIBA's help," he explained.
"I don't see this as a declaration of war."

Man Utd transfer news: Benjamin Sesko sent strong message as club chief speaks out
Manchester United are keen to add RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko to the clutch of signings they've already made this summer and one Red Devil has already made his thoughts very clear Manchester United are currently in the middle of their pre-season tour of America - but that doesn't mean there's nothing going on at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are hard at work trying to add more new faces to Ruben Amorim's squad ahead of the new season. United have already rubber-stamped three summer arrivals: Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have both completed moves from both Wolves and Brentford respectively, while young defender Diego Leon has also completed a move to Manchester. But United are not finished there with more incomings and player sales expected before the transfer deadline. A striker is also on their shopping list, with RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko emerging as the club's priority transfer target. Talks regarding his arrival are ongoing. Elsewhere, outgoings are also on the agenda. Marcus Rashford has already completed a move away from the club after joining Barcelona. Take a look at all of the latest transfer rumours: Dorgu sends Sesko message Man United defender Patrick Dorgu claims he still has plenty of faith in Rasmus Hojlund despite the club chasing Benjamin Sesko. 'He's doing really well,' said Dorgu. 'He looks sharp, he looks fit and I'm very happy for Rasmus to get his goal. 'It was a difficult season for Rasmus. Not only for him, but for everyone, so I think this season is really important for him and for the team to get back to where we have to be in the league. 'We need a striker to deliver on the pitch, so that's why he was happy. We talk in training, we try to understand each other on the pitch, for me to know where he is in the box and what movements he likes. He needs confidence, everyone needs confidence and a goal always helps with that.' Juventus speak out on Sancho Juventus chief Damien Comolli has suggested that his side are still interested in Jadon Sancho - but will only make a move should one of their current widemen leave. He said: 'I think the club is very attractive; many agents and players are calling me. After all, we are Juventus, and we want to get back to winning ways. 'Securing Conceição's permanence was a clear and strong decision because he can play on both fronts. We have two of the best wingers in the world, and Nico is a great player. If someone were to leave, we will consider him [Sancho]." Sancho was in line for a move to Chelsea this summer after spending last season on loan but the Blues decided to pay a £5m penalty fee to back out of the agreement. United eye Donnarumma While the Red Devils are keen to bolster their attacking options, it also appears that they want to add to their goalkeeping ranks. As per Sky Sports, United are interested in PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian has entered the final year of his contract at the Parc des Princes, with the French side having signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille as a potential replacement. But Donnarumma could yet stay. A further year with PSG has not been ruled out and the Italian is in no rush to make a decision on his future. Iurie Iovu knows where Dundee United priorities lie as he parks assault on Europe for Premiership opener
The Moldova international was the hero for Jim Goodwin's men in midweek Iurie Iovu insists the only Rapid that Dundee United are focused on is their Premiership start at Falkirk. Jim Goodwin 's side face Rapid Vienna next week in the Conference League but before then they are looking for a winning start in the league at the Bairns tomorrow. Iovu knows his new team came unstuck there in the Premier Sports Cup last season but will go with confidence after back-to-back wins over UNA Strassen. The Moldovan, who scored the only goal in Luxembourg on Thursday night, said: 'We need to focus on each match. We have a busy schedule, and we cannot think about too far in the future. 'Our thoughts are on the next game, playing well against Falkirk, to listen to the coach and prepare well for a hard match. 'When you are the favourite against a team coming up from the lower division, they want to show themselves and will give more than 100 per cent so we need to be ready for this and not underestimate them.' Falkirk have an artificial pitch but that is not something that will faze the big defender. He said: 'I have played on artificial grass in my career and it cannot be an excuse. It is the same pitch for all 22 players. It doesn't matter.' Game On - Rangers' Champions League chances | Celtic's transfer activity | Premiership surprises The summer signing became an instant hero with his goal against UNA Strassen to give United their first win on European soil for 28 years. Iovu, told of his achievement, said: 'Really? Very nice, I did not know this. I am very excited to score my first goal after such a good cross from Zac (Sapsford). 'It was very special for me, it always is when your fans come away from home and make such a long journey to support the team. 'We must always give 100 per cent and show we are thankful for their time and effort to come here. But I am staying positive, trying to push and already thinking about the next game. 'We don't have time to analyse this too much, we need to improve and play well in the next game.' With two big European ties to come against Rapid, Iovu knows his team will need to up their game from Strassen but will go out to upset the odds. He added: 'We need to control the ball more and be cooler in possession. 'Rapid Vienna is a good team, I am delighted to have the chance to play against them. Anything can happen. 'There are lots of examples of smaller teams upsetting bigger teams, you never know. If you can show your qualities and give your maximum, all the possibilities are there.'
