McDonald's plans to hire over 375,000 workers this summer, offers education programs
McDonald's says the large-scale hiring is driven by a combination of factors, including increased summer demand, turnover, and plans for new restaurant development. They are planning to open 900 new restaurants by 2027. The hiring spree would mark McDonald's largest hiring initiative in years.
The fast food chain is also marking its 10th anniversary of the Archways to Opportunity program. Over 90,000 employees furthered their education with the help of the initiative. This includes high school diploma programs, college tuition assistance, access to free education and career advising services, and learning English as a second language.
Owner and Operator of over 20 McDonald's across Massachusetts, Mark McBee has contributed nearly $1M in tuition assistance to his employees. A current employee, for example, is set to graduate this week with their second master's degree.

Recession Indicators People Have Noticed
If you're feeling the pinch financially, you're not alone. With so much uncertainty in the air, many people are worried about the possibility of a recession. In the r/Millennials subreddit, u/Soup_stew_supremacy recently asked about "funny recession indicators," like skinny jeans and tall Uggs coming back into fashion this fall and winter. However, most redditors offered more serious responses to watch out for — perhaps an indicator in itself. Here's what they said: "Women not dyeing or highlighting their hair is a real indicator, from what I've read." "Read an article saying that there's no song of the summer for 2025 due to the economic environment. And of the top ten most-streamed songs this year, only one was released in 2025. People are supposedly returning to recession-era music as well." "Hot people in minimum wage jobs. I'm in a college town, so a lot of employees in retail/food service are good-looking, but I've seen quite a few really hot people working at McDonald's over the summer." "I was in Target the other day and noticed a lot of the women's clothing was becoming more drab in color and utilitarian in style. Lots of beige and denim in very simple cuts." "I'm in a transition point in my life. Biggest recession indicator of them all." "I've found newer restaurants are not busy, but more established restaurants are about the same. Shows that people are not taking as many risks with their money." "Kesha dropped [the song] 'Tik Tok' during a recession, and I'm afraid to tell y'all that she has dropped no fewer than two absolute bangers this year." "I work for the county's child services and support division. There's been a noticeable uptick in the number of people filing for divorce. Jobs go bad, stress increases, and marriages fail." "Concerts are not busy unless you're Morgan Wallen or Taylor Swift. Hotels and resorts not even half full." "I read yesterday that the most popular selling beer this summer is Miller High Life. Cheap as shit. This could be an indicator as well. I thought it was interesting at least." "In my social circle, half the couples have one person recently unemployed and getting NOWHERE on the job hunt. Pretty good indicator." "More car accidents. Bald tires." "The only thing you need to pay attention to is the male underwear index. Yes, it's a thing. Men stop buying undies when times are tight. Who's to see them?" "The 'we buy houses for cash' signs all over. I see commercials now, too. 'Any condition.'" And finally, "Strippers reporting smaller take-home tips." Know any other recession indicators? Share them in the comments or in the anonymous form below.

BAC Applauds Landmark Passage of Trigger Lead Ban
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Broker Action Coalition (BAC) welcomes the passage of the Homebuyers Privacy Protection Act, bipartisan legislation that limits the sale of trigger leads. With the Senate passing the House version on August 2, the bill has officially cleared Congress and now heads to the President's desk. The BAC urges President Trump to sign the bill into law without delay. 'This victory shows what's possible when brokers get involved, stay organized, and invest in advocacy.' Brendan McKay, Chief Advocacy Officer and Co-Founder of the BAC Share The passage of this bill through Congress marks the culmination of a multi-year advocacy effort—driven by the BAC, its advocates, and coalition partners. Led by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), this united effort aimed to ban abusive trigger lead practices and curb the sale of consumer data without consent. This legislative victory would not have been possible without the leadership of Representatives John Rose (R-TN) and Ritchie Torres (D-NY) and Senators Jack Reed (D-RI) and Bill Hagerty (R-TN). Why Brokers Fought to End Trigger Leads When a consumer applies for a mortgage and their credit is pulled, credit bureaus sell that data as 'trigger leads'—including personal details like full name, contact information, and credit score range. Solicitors buy these leads and unleash a barrage of calls, texts, and emails, overwhelming homebuyers at a critical point in the process. All of this is done without the consumer's permission or proper disclosure. Some solicitors blur compliance boundaries, using deceptive language to imply connections with brokers or lenders. In addition to violating basic data privacy expectations, these tactics erode consumer trust and have been especially harmful to first-time homebuyers, non-native English speakers, and other vulnerable borrowers. The Homebuyers Privacy Protection Act ends these abusive practices while preserving narrow exceptions for pre-existing relationships and giving consumers the power to opt in. Thank You to the Partners Who Powered the Push Advocacy at this level doesn't happen alone. It takes investment, commitment, and shared belief in what's possible. The BAC is proud to recognize the partners that helped make this win possible: Equity Prime Mortgage (EPM), Pennymac TPO, The Loan Store, Inc., Rocket Pro, Paramount Residential Mortgage Group, Inc. (PRMG), Freedom Mortgage Wholesale Division, Newfi Wholesale, Gold Star Wholesale, and West Capital Lending. These partners stood alongside brokers and homebuyers to champion stronger consumer protections and real industry change. Continued Commitment to Homebuyer & Broker Interests 'The BAC was built to channel broker priorities into real policy wins. When we launched, we asked our earliest supporters to help set the agenda. The response was overwhelmingly clear: ending abusive trigger leads was our top priority. Today's congressional action delivered on that,' said Brendan McKay, BAC Chief Advocacy Officer and Co-Founder. 'This victory shows what's possible when brokers get involved, stay organized, and invest in advocacy.' 'This is a major win—but it's just the beginning,' added Rachel Clark, BAC Executive Director. 'If you want more of this kind of progress, brokers need to keep showing up—and start funding the fight.' About the Broker Action Coalition The Broker Action Coalition (BAC) is the grassroots advocacy channel uniting mortgage brokers and their supporters to fight for broker and homebuyer rights nationwide. The BAC aims to level the playing field between independent mortgage brokers and retail banks, to support inclusive homebuying policy change, and to fight for the needs of Veterans, minorities, and underserved communities to make the American dream of homeownership possible for more people than ever before.
