20 per cent less rain this monsoon till now in Telangana
Although the southwest monsoon had entered the state in the last week of May, almost two weeks ahead of the expected date, the rainfall in the state has been less than expected and predicted.
As per the Telangana Development Planning Society report, the state has recorded a cumulative rainfall of 175 mm against the normal rainfall of 219.3 mm, with a deviation of -20% between June 1 and July 13.
It is to be noted that the rainfall deviation last year in the month of June was 34% and July was 10%, against the deviation of 20% in both June and July this year, resulting in deficient rainfall across the state.
As many as 20 districts recorded deficient rainfall, with 322 mandals recording deficient rain, 232 mandals with normal rainfall, 29 mandals with excess rain and only five mandals recorded large excess rainfall since June 1.
Adilabad district recorded the highest cumulative rainfall of 382.7 mm with 24 rainy days, whereas Kumaram Bheem had 25 rainy days, the highest in the state.
Medchal-Malkajgiri was the most rainfall deficient district in the state with an actual rainfall of merely 74 mm against normal rainfall of 173.4 mm with a -57% deviation.
Hyderabad stood as the second most rain deficient district with 83.6 mm of rainfall against the normal of 174 mm, with a 52% deviation.
Both Medchal-Malkajgiri and Hyderabad have had seven rainy days in the season, the lowest in the state in this monsoon season.
The long range forecast by the IMD has predicted that the state will experience normal and above normal rainfall in July.
However, more rains are likely to be experienced in the last week of July.

IMD issues orange alert for heavy rainfall in 6 districts of Himachal Pradesh over next 2 days
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 14 (ANI): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for six districts of Himachal Pradesh, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next two days, while also cautioning about continued rain activity across the state till July 20. According to Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist at the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, moderate rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours in districts including Shimla, Sirmaur, Kullu, and Mandi. 'The highest rainfall was recorded in Rajgarh (Sirmaur district) with 72 mm, while light showers occurred in districts like Una, Bilaspur, and Solan,' Sharma told ANI. 'For July 14 and 15, we expect light to moderate rainfall in most mid-hill and low-hill districts. However, Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts are under Orange Alert for today due to the likelihood of heavy to heavy rainfall, and this activity will continue tomorrow as well,' Sharma said. He further informed that for July 15, districts including Solan, Shimla, and Sirmaur have been put under Orange Alert for very heavy rainfall, while Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Kullu districts may witness isolated heavy rain for which a Yellow Alert has been issued. 'This spell of active monsoon is expected to continue from July 16 to July 20, during which Una, Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts may receive heavy rainfall at isolated places,' said Sharma. Discussing the seasonal rainfall trends, Sharma noted that there is an increase in monsoon rainfall above the normal. 'So far, the state has received 19% above normal rainfall this monsoon season. Shimla and Mandi districts have received almost double the average rainfall, whereas Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts have recorded deficient rainfall compared to the seasonal average. All other districts have received above-normal rainfall so far,' he added. Regarding rainfall in July, he said, 'As of today, rainfall in the month of July has been normal.' Sharma also mentioned that flash flood advisories and safety guidelines are being issued in real time based on meteorological inputs. 'Whenever there is a possibility of flash floods, we release advisories and alerts in coordination with the concerned authorities,' he said. On temperature trends, he said that temperatures are normal and may drop slightly during the next two days. 'Temperatures are generally being recorded around the seasonal average. In Shimla, the maximum temperature was recorded at 23.4C, while regions around Bilaspur witnessed temperatures close to 32C. Expect scattered showers and ‘satisfactory' air
New Delhi: Delhi experienced patchy rainfall on Monday, with some areas receiving a short spell of intense rainfall in the evening. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted scattered light showers throughout the week. According to IMD officials, no colour-coded alerts have been issued until July 20, with only very light to light rain expected during this period, as the monsoon is not anticipated to be particularly active over Delhi-NCR. Between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Monday, Safdarjung, which is the city's base station, and Palam registered 'trace' rainfall, while Rajghat received 0.1mm and Mayur Vihar 1mm, with overcast skies prevailing throughout the day. However, after 5.30 pm, some areas recorded a brief but intense spell of rain. "Intense rain activity is unlikely for the next few days. However, there is a possibility of very light to light showers along with strong winds," said an official. IMD predicted that the maximum temperature is expected to range between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality continued to remain in the 'satisfactory' category. The Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 59 on Monday, a decrease from 79 on Sunday. A 16-day streak of 'satisfactory' air quality was broken on Saturday when the AQI reached 105 in the 'moderate' category. According to the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, the forecasting body under the union ministry of earth sciences, the air quality is likely to remain in the 'satisfactory' category till July 17.
