Vivek Agnihotri slams Bollywood ‘Shahenshahs' who wave at crowds from balconies, inflate box office to make it seem like ‘Tiger Zinda Hai'

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri said that the practice of inflating box office collections is conducted only to boost the egos of movie stars. In recent years, it has been observed that several production houses buy tickets of their own movies in bulk, giving the impression that their films are a hit. In an interview, Agnihotri appeared to make references about three leading male movie stars: Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Salman Khan. He was, however, extremely appreciative of Aamir Khan. He said that Aamir has changed the face of Hindi movies with his unconventional choices.
In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra, he said, 'There was a time when the industry would take political stands. They would collect money in the event of earthquakes and floods. They'd go out on trucks. Sunil Dutt was the original Congressman who went on a march from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. But these days, movie stars are happy to wave at thousands of people from their houses. I don't like that. They don't want to get their hands dirty. You are not a Shahenshah. Simply tweeting about an issue isn't enough.' Asked if this was a dig at Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, who are popularly known as Shahenshah and Badshah, Agnihotri said that he didn't mean it.'

He continued, 'The film industry was at the forefront of every movement. Now they travel by chartered planes. They've ruined the country. They've turned Bollywood into a 'shampoo conditioner' industry. You've attached the industry to sex and glamour. Wasn't Deewaar about the nation? Weren't the films written by Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar about the nation? These days, the only person that the hero is fighting is his girlfriend's father. They've dumbed the industry down.'
Asked about the practice of corporate bookings, Agnihotri said that the audience is too smart to be fooled by such tactics. This practice is done only to boost the egos of actors, he said. 'People have rate cards, this is an open secret… These are fraud numbers, this is done to satisfy the star's ego. They do this only to make the star feel like he's still alive, that Tiger Zinda Hai,' he said, seemingly making a reference to Salman Khan's hit film.

Maa Box Office Collection Day 1: Kajol's Horror film Opens With Rs 4 Crore

Last Updated: Kajol returns to the big screen with Maa, a mythological horror thriller directed by Vishal Furia. The film opened with Rs 4.15 crore on its first day. After a three-year break from the big screen, Kajol returned with Maa, a mythological horror thriller directed by Vishal Furia. The Day 1 numbers are finally in. According to early estimates by Sacnilk, Maa opened with a respectable Rs 4 crore on its first day. Not bad for a genre that's still pretty niche in Bollywood. As per early estimates, Maa earned Rs 4.15 crore on its opening day. The report also highlights that the film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 16.49 per cent on Friday. Morning shows started slow with just 8.23 per cent occupancy, but numbers picked up by the afternoon, reaching 20.08 per cent. The evening shows saw a further boost, clocking in at 21.16 per cent. A part of the review of Maa by News18 read, 'The concept and story have substance, but the film lacked largely because of its style of storytelling. Besides, the film also has a lot of stereotypes that could have been done without. Besides the exaggeration that the palace had a almost 30-feet tall Kali maa's stone carved statue, the way people from Chandrapur talk in the film, everything seems to be a cliche that all the Bengalis would be running away from. It only gets disappointing to see Ronit Roy, who plays a vital part in the film, deliver all his Hindi dialogues with such a heavy Bengali accent. A lot would argue that it is not how people from Bengal speak when they talk in Hindi." In Maa, a mythological horror thriller, Kajol takes on the powerful role of Ambika, a fearless mother who will stop at nothing to protect her daughter from dark, supernatural forces. The film blends myth and mystery, marking Kajol's first foray into the horror genre. Alongside her, the cast includes Indraneil Sengupta, Jitin Gulati, and Kherin Sharma. Directed by Vishal Furia, Maa is backed by producers Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Subbarayan. First Published: June 28, 2025, 11:20 IST

Sudhanshu Pandey Feels Ram Kapoor's Sexual Remarks ‘Reflect Mental Instability'

The controversy happened after Ram made some sexually inappropriate remarks against one of his team members during a press interaction. Ram Kapoor recently found himself in controversy after being dropped from the promotions of his web series, Mistry. It happened after the actor made some sexually inappropriate remarks against one of his team members during a press interaction. Now, TV actor Sudhanshu Pandey, known for his performance in shows like Anupamaa, has shared his reaction to Kapoor's controversial remark, calling them a reflection of 'mansik asthirta' (mental instability). Speaking to FilmiBeatz, Pandey said, 'Firstly, Ram's words are harming his reputation. Second, it takes mental instability to say such things, especially when referring to a woman nearby. A decent individual should constantly show respect for others, particularly ladies. If Ram has said anything like this, I sincerely apologise on behalf of our entire industry." Ram, on the other hand, speaking to ETimesTV, has accepted his statement and apologised for it. He said, 'Let me begin by stating that I did say everything for which I have been blamed. So, the truth is, I am guilty as charged. But here's what I have to say in my defence. When I am with people I am comfortable with, I tend to become my badass self. Everyone who knows me and has worked with me understands that is how I am, and I don't try to offend." He further stated that he was unaware of any distress he may have given the show's staff during the event. 'I didn't feel it once all day. We were laughing and joking. If I had gotten a hint that they were offended, I would have dealt with it immediately." On the work front, Ram's web series Mistry has now premiered on JioHotstar. The show also features Mona Singh and Abhiijeit Chitre in the leads. It is the official Hindi remake of the American superhit series, Monk. Coming back to Sudhanshu, he is currently winning hearts with his performance in the reality show, The Traitors, which is streaming on Prime Video. Hosted by Karan Johar, the other remaining contestants of the show include Purav Jha, Apoorva Mukhija, Harsh Gujral, Uorfi Javed, Nikita Luther and Jasmine Bhasin. The grand finale episode will be available to watch on Thursday, July 3, 2025, on Prime Video at 8:00 PM. First Published:
