'Tourists at my Majorca hotel race for sunbeds - but I show them there's no point'
A Brit is perplexed to film dozens of tourists at her Majorca hotel race for sunbeds - because she insists she gets one every morning without trouble.
Speaking in a TikTok post from the hotel during her holiday, Clare Wright, 44, says she "has a little giggle" at the holidaymakers who she watches scramble for loungers each morning. The battle for prime spots at Protur Playa Cala Millor Hotel in Majorca, Spain, "like something out of The Hunger Games," Clare says.
"People gathered in the cafe area from about 8:30am waiting for a little chain that the staff had put around a small section of the pool to be removed. As the staff finished the cleaning and walked towards the chain, everybody stood.... and as it was lifted, the games began."
And in footage Clare has shared online, tourists dash across the pool deck the second the gates open. Holding towels and sunbathing gear, they had been queuing for half an hour. Clare recorded the clip during her five-day holiday the four-star hotel, which is on the east of the Spanish island.
Speaking after filming the video, Clare, from Nottingham, added: "I watched from my balcony, having a little giggle, went to breakfast and then to the pool at about 10am to find a sun bed without any problem at all."
"The night before, the entertainment manager said, 'No leaving towels down, the staff clean the pool area in the morning and no running as the floor will be wet and slippy, we are all adults here.'
"I thought, 'What? People won't be running to get a sun bed here.' So I decided to watch and film it... I watched from my balcony, having a little giggle, went to breakfast and then to the pool at about 10am to find a sun bed without any problem at all."
Clare said the race was pointless as there were enough sun loungers for everyone. The tourist continued: "There really was no need. It was such a lovely hotel and we had an amazing time there. It wasn't the hotel's fault - they had enough beds for everyone."
Clare shared the clip on her TikTok account Wright_Wanders. The footage racked up more than 57,000 views and commentors described the guests as "sad".
One said: "God, how said if that's what holidays are about." Another person added: "I hate this. I love hotels that remove stuff after 30 minutes if not in use." A third said: "That's just horrific. I'd never fight for a sun bed... Just come back from Majorca and in the hotel I was in, the pool opened at 10 no stress for a sun bed."

Flight attendant reveals that buying one chocolate bar could land you a free upgrade
A former flight attendant has revealed that there is one thing you can do at the boarding gate that will seriously increase your chances of getting a free upgrade A flight attendant has revealed that a simple Swiss chocolate bar could be your golden ticket to complimentary coffee and tea on board. The age-old enigma of securing a free upgrade on a flight remains as elusive as ever, with many travellers scratching their heads over the secret formula. TikTok's very own cabin crew member, @cierra_mistt, shared her insider knowledge, claiming there's a straightforward strategy that often pays off. "One of the easiest ways to get a free upgrade is literally just being nice to your gate agent and flight attendant," she divulged in one of her popular clips. But if kindness alone doesn't do the trick, she suggests sweetening the deal with some confectionery. She elaborated: "The miracles we can work when we are given some Starbucks or a pack of chocolate. Especially on those long days when we have back-to-back flights and we don't even have time to go get some food." Indeed, gifting treats such as sweets, chocolates, or even a takeaway coffee to the entire crew can significantly enhance your chances of receiving preferential treatment during your journey. While it may seem peculiar to approach the boarding gate laden with goodies, Cierra assures that this tactic is commonly employed by ex-cabin crew seeking upgrades on other airlines. Fellow flight attendant Miguel Muñoz concurred, expressing his fondness for passengers who bring gifts like "Toblerone or Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons" from the airport shops. "I am automatically nicer to the person who had that nice gesture," he added, highlighting the power of a thoughtful offering. The cabin chief would always offer them free coffee and tea and if there are better seats available, we will move them!". Ex-air hostess Helena Afroughi confirmed to the Express that this remains one of the most effective methods for securing aircraft upgrades. She revealed: "What always works is when people bring some sweets to the crew, chocolates or whatever. And they make themselves known, don't just give it and run away. Usually, people do it as a thank you but I've seen it more with people that have family working as crew too so they appreciate the crew more." Helena detailed just how meaningful these thoughtful acts can be for cabin staff. "I had this very young kid once, who came and brought us little gifts from Bath and Body Works - a shop in the US - he bought us mini hand sanitisers... It was the cutest thing ever," she recalled. The crew member urged travellers not to hesitate in approaching the cabin team for a friendly chat.

Perks of her lifestyle include visiting 109 countries and not having to pay for essentials like food or laundry. Due to her husband's position, she is not permitted to gamble in the ship's casino and prioritizes guests' comfort, such as giving up her seat by the pool.

UK beach that rivals Maldives with white sands also boasts swim-friendly waters
Brits looking for the UK's best beaches to visit in summer 2025 should add one gorgeous sandy shore to their wishlist immediately thanks to its Maldives-worthy scenery A UK beach that wouldn't look out of place in the Maldives has been named one of the best for swim-friendly waters this summer. With its picture-perfect white sands and crystal-clear waters, it's no surprise that Porthcurno Beach in staycation hotspot Cornwall regularly tops rankings of the UK's best beaches. The National Trust site gets its postcard-esque white sands from the soft shells that form its shores, but its freshwater stream makes it a must-visit on those hot summer days. In fact, it's recently topped rankings of England's best shorelines for warmer waters if you want to take a dip to cool off. Beautiful white sand beach is one of 'best in Europe' with crystal-clear waters Tenerife's 'sunniest beach' happens to also be the island's 'most beautiful' The research was conducted by the team at Iglu Cruise who looked at TripAdvisor's rankings of the top 10 best beaches in England, and then worked out the average sea temperatures in summer (July) using World Sea Temperatures, to determine the rankings. Oh, and keep your eyes peeled across the horizon as between May and October, those warmer waters can draw in the likes of basking sharks and dolphins, as well as a plethora of birds that nest in the region. If you are going to take a dip, take note that the beach can get some strong currents, and there are only seasonal lifeguards on offer. You can find out more on the National Trust website. Holiday experts have previously recommended that Brits visit the gorgeous beach which they say rivals even the prettiest of Spanish shores. "If you're looking for a beach in the UK that offers white sand, dramatic cliffs, turquoise waters and lush greenery similar to the Costa Brava in north-east Spain, then head to Porthcurno Beach in Cornwall," the team at previously explained. "Reminiscent of a tropical paradise, the beach is framed by towering cliffs, providing a peaceful retreat from the wind, and a scenic backdrop that enhances its secluded and calm atmosphere. Lastly, the beach's clear waters make it ideal for swimming, snorkelling, and exploring marine life." It's not just travel insiders who are impressed; visitors have taken to social media and TripAdvisor to share their own takes on the beach, and they're overwhelmingly positive. "Just stunning. One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen," one person wrote on TripAdvisor. "First time at Porthcurno and will definitely be returning. Just hope it doesn't rain this time." Another added: "Amazing beach , great relaxed atmosphere, amazing walks off the beech. Lovely clean surroundings, Minnack theatre right next door." Meanwhile a third person who was impressed by the beach did flag that you'll want to keep an eye on kids, due to a steep drop off. They wrote: "What a lovely beach. Fairly small bay with clean sand. It has quite a steep drop off so isn't great for children playing in the surf. It has toilets, a cafe and car park very close." It wasn't just Porthcurno Beach that impressed in the Iglu Cruise study; Cornish beaches took the top three spots in the rankings, which you can check out below. Porthcurno Beach, Cornwall Fistral Beach, Cornwall Perranporth Beach, Cornwall Woolacombe Beach, Devon Tunnels Beaches, Devon Frinton-on-Sea Beach, Essex Clacton-on-Sea Beach, Essex Crosby Beach, Merseyside Brighton Beach, East Sussex Camber Sands, East Sussex
