Marcus Stroman gives Yankees exactly what they needed in win over Braves
Access the Yankees beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Greg Joyce about the inside buzz on the Yankees. Try it free ATLANTA — On a day the Yankees had little available in the way of relief, Marcus Stroman provided it in his best start of the season. After the first two Yankees starters this series put the team in early holes and did not last long, Stroman was sharper than he's been all season to help send the Yankees into a divisional showdown full-steam ahead. Advertisement Stroman tossed six innings of one-run ball to keep the Braves at bay and lift the Yankees to a 4-2 win that claimed the series on Sunday afternoon at Truist Park. Aaron Judge gave Stroman a lead to work with before he even stepped on the mound by crushing his 351st career home run as a Yankee, pulling him into a tie with Alex Rodriguez for sixth-place all-time. 3 Yankees starter Marcus Stroman (l.) and catcher Ben Rice (r.) celebrate during the third inning against the Braves on July 20, 2025. Getty Images Advertisement The Yankees (55-44) will now try to take this momentum into a big series against the Blue Jays in Toronto that starts Monday. They suffered a four-game sweep at Rogers Centre just two and a half weeks ago, which dropped them out of first place in the AL East, and now the Yankees head back there trailing the Blue Jays by three games. In the first two games of this series coming out of the All-Star break, the Yankees bullpen had to cover 13 ¹/₃ innings. Advertisement Eight of those came in Friday's bullpen game, when Ian Hamilton put them in a 3-0 hole in the first inning, before Will Warren could not make it out of the fourth inning on Saturday. But Stroman delivered his longest start since last August, scattering five hits and no walks (for the first time this season) while striking out four. The only damage was Matt Olson's 442-foot solo blast in the sixth inning that landed on the roof of the Chop House in right field. 3 Marcus Stroman pitches for the Yankees against the Braves on July 20, 2025. The softest of those came with two outs in the first inning, after Judge had already made it a 1-0 game, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Paul Goldschmidt followed with singles to double the lead at 2-0. 3 Aaron Judge reacts after hitting a home run during the first inning in the Yankees' win over the Braves on July 20, 2025. Here are all the best reenactments of the Coldplay 'kiss cam' incident
As Coldplay performs in sports stadiums across the United States, it has leveraged the jumbotron and the iconic "kiss cam" to showcase its audience on the big screen. It led to one of the most viral moments in recent memory when, during a performance last week at Gillette Stadium outside Boston, home of the New England Patriots, a kiss cam caught now-former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron embracing the company's chief people officer, Kristin Cabot. Footage of the pair's apparent panic and dramatic attempt to dodge the camera became an instant hit on social media, spawning countless memes and making headlines worldwide. The "kiss cam" is a regular feature at American sports arenas, and teams, their mascots, fans, and even presenters have parodied the now-famous clip. At Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Friday night, for instance, the mascot for the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team was shown on the jumbotron mimicking the viral incident. During a break in play between the Phillies and the Los Angeles Angels, a "kiss cam" picked out several couples in the crowd as Coldplay's "Clocks" played over the sound system. The camera then turned to the Phillies mascot, Phillies Phanatic, who was caught cuddled up to another mascot wearing a blonde wig. As they spied themselves on the big screen, the Phanatic ducked for cover while his panicked partner hid her face — a near-perfect rendition of the scene at the Coldplay concert earlier in the week. Local CEO caught CHEATING at Phillies game?! — Philadelphia Phillies (@Phillies) July 19, 2025 The Arizona Diamondbacks also joined in the fun on Friday. The stadium's "kiss cam" caught team mascot D. Baxter the Bobcat locked in an embrace with a St. Louis Cardinals fan, before the pair also took evasive action. Posting a clip of the spoof on X, the Diamondbacks wrote: "Ok now listen, are you two a couple? Are you two a legitimate couple?" It's not just mascots — fans across the country have also seized the opportunity to reenact the Coldplay concert scene. Footage posted to social media shows couples at America First Field in Utah and Truist Park in Atlanta showing off their own versions of the moment. families may have been divided but the world is united — FearBuck (@FearedBuck) July 20, 2025 SportsCenter commentators Gary Striewski and Randy Scott also recreated the viral clip. During their show's cold open on Friday, cameras panned to Scott holding Striewski by the waist. Scott drops to the floor, and Striewski covers his face as the camera pans to them. "It's time to 'Kiss It Goodbye,'" Scott says as they move to the next segment of the show. "Baseball's probably not the only thing you can say that about." The jokes were also flying at Busch Stadium in Missouri, where two popular exhibition baseball teams — The Savannah Bananas and The Party Animals — competed this week. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Savannah Bananas (@thesavbananas) A video shared by the Savannah Bananas on Saturday showed people reenacting the Coldplay "kiss cam" moment on the stadium's jumbotron. At one point, the camera panned to The Party Animals mascot, Pharty, warmly embracing Princess Potassia, the mascot for the Savannah Bananas. The two costumed characters quickly ducked out of the way, eliciting cheers and laughter from the crowd. Astronomer, the New York-based tech company where Byron worked, announced on Friday that the CEO had been placed on leave and that it had started a formal investigation into the incident. In an update Saturday, the firm said Byron had resigned from his position as CEO. In a statement shared on X, the tech company said its leaders were "expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability." "And recently, that standard was not met," it added.

It's different than Rory McIlroy, it's different than Brooks Koepka, it's different than Jordan Spieth, and I can't help but think that we are on an inevitable march towards one of the greatest careers in the history of golf.' Paul McGinley: 'I look everywhere and I try to find some kind of a weakness, somewhere where he can get derailed, and I just can't find it. He might even prove to have more longevity than Tiger Woods.' Dan Hicks: 'Scottie Scheffler has his Open Championship and a third leg of golf's Grand Slam! You heard his father say, 'I have no words.' We're kind of in the same boat.' Kevin Kisner on Scheffler's greatness: 'There are a number of reasons we watch sports. Hicks on Scheffler's fist pump following 16-foot par save on No. 6: 'You know what that reminded me of? Tiger Woods at the 2000 U.S. Open at No. 16, when he avoided that bogey, he gave the fist pump and he was lapping the was like, 'I don't care how many I win by, but I'm not going to make a bogey.' ON HAOTONG LI (-11, T-4th) Hicks: 'A sensational week for Haotong Li, who carried all of China's hopes on his shoulders. First man from China to ever play in the final pairing on the final day of a major. No one had more fun this weekend than [him.]' ON HARRIS ENGLISH (-13, 2nd) Hicks: 'A pro's pro. ON BRYSON DECHAMBEAU (-9, T-10th) Hicks on his strong final three rounds: 'Had he had this game that he's had the last few games on Thursday, it might have been a different story. He was tied for 144th on Thursday, making some big moves up the board since stuff by Bryson.' ON MATT FITZPATRICK (-11, T-4th) Chamblee: 'After watching Fitz the past few days, may be a lot of people heading out to the golf course tomorrow trying this cross-handed chipping action.' --NBC SPORTS--
