Roodepoort Record reports that during today's court appearance, a state witness, a detective from the Florida police who is also the investigating officer in the case, took the stand and detailed the events from the time Jayden-Lee was reported missing to the arrest of his mother.
According to his testimony, the deceased's school bag, shoes and red school jacket were found at Unit 13, where Meek resides.
It was further revealed that Jayden-Lee's body was discovered shortly after Meek left the complex in the early hours of May 14 at about 05:00.
'When officers observed the deceased's body at Discovery Clinic, they noticed injuries to the forehead, chin and lips, which were bleeding. The deceased also had bruises on the neck, arms and right leg,' the detective testified.
He added that a pillow found in Meek's unit contained blood droplets. These were sealed for forensic testing and later confirmed to match the deceased's blood.
'After the post-mortem, it was revealed that the cause of death was a blunt force injury to the head,' he said.
Meek's affidavit, read by her defence attorney Noven Naidoo, claimed that police officers had refused to search her unit because they lacked a search warrant. However, the investigating officer disputed this.
'The accused kept diverting police officers to other locations and refused to let them near her unit. In a case as sensitive as this, police would have proceeded with a search even without a warrant,' he explained.
'It also doesn't make sense that the accused spent the night at her mother's house when she knew the child was missing and could have returned at any time.'
Unlike previous appearances, proceedings were calmer, with no demonstrations outside the court. Meek remains in custody.

Wentworth police clamp down on illegal scrapyard
A MAN accused of operating an illegal scrapyard in Wentworth is due to appear at the Wentworth Magistrate's Court today (August 1). The suspect (57) was arrested during a sting operation conducted by Metro Police Street Crime unit on July 31. It is alleged that the suspect was receiving suspected stolen goods from people for the purpose of reselling them. Also read: Operation Good Hope returns to The Bluff The police found copper pipes, brass tops believed to have been stolen from places of worship, and several other copper items believed to have been stolen from churches. The man is facing charges of operating a scrapyard without a valid licence and possession of suspected stolen property. uMngeni councillor murder: Traditional leader uncle among 5 arrested
A suspect accused of killing the late uMngeni municipal councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu was his uncle. According to Zululand Observer, Ndlovu was gunned down at his Masosheni home near Mpophomeni in December 2023. The uncle (56), who is an iNkosi (a Zulu word for 'chief'), was arrested on Wednesday and appeared alongside a 34-year-old accomplice in the Howick Magistrate's Court yesterday. The arrest by the SAPS Political Killings Task Team brings the total number of suspects to five. The matter has been postponed to next Friday for a formal bail application. DA leader Francois Rodgers said the iNkosi is allegedly implicated in a separate case involving the murder of his cousin. 'While the DA welcomes the progress in this case, we remain deeply disappointed by the delays in the arrests. The information that ultimately led to the arrests was already available to the authorities by the DA's independent legal team, yet it was disregarded,' said Rodgers. 'The disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has further weakened the state's ability to address politically motivated crimes. 'The presence of senior SAPS intelligence officials during court proceedings only deepens concerns about whether our intelligence structures are being used effectively and impartially in such politically sensitive matters.' Cogta MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi commended the SAPS on the arrest, saying it was a 'significant breakthrough'.
