Hamilton's New Douglas Park opened up for pitch hire after Accies exit

The stadium owners are looking to fill the void after the Accies men's team and academy moved out
The owners of New Douglas Park have announced the stadium will be available for pitch hire from the start of July - dashing any glimmer of hope Hamilton Accies fans had of the club doing a U-turn on their proposed move away from their spiritual home.
Hamilton Accies announced last month that they are leaving the town for Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld after failing to strike a deal to purchase NDP from its current owners. The club's academy has since followed suit and the club announced this week they have found a new - as yet unamed - home within Hamilton for the Elite academy to continue.

Conversely, SWPL2 champions Accies Women announced they would not be following suit and have come to an arrangement with stadium owners Hamilton Stadium Ltd to remain at New Douglas Park.

League Two club Clyde are also tenants at the ground, but with two major users of the facilty now away, the stadium owners are welcoming teams to apply to use the facilities to fill the void.
A statement from the owners on the Hamilton Community Stadium Facebook page read: "With Hamilton Accies Elite Youth Academy now following their first team in relocating to other training facilities, pitch hire's here at New Douglas Park will become available from the 1st of July.

Hamilton Accies boss targets 'half a dozen' new signings for League One title tilt

John Rankin is preparing his new-look side for life at Broadwood in League One Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin says he wants up to six new players ahead of the new league season. The Broadwood club have been linked with the return of defender Ricki Lamie, and addition of former Stenhousemuir forward Matty Yates and ex-Dunfermline stopper Aaron Comrie, who are believed to have agreed terms. ‌ Rankin also says 'two or three' youngsters from the club's academy will also be promoted to the first team, ahead of their League One title tilt. ‌ The Accies gaffer said: 'I don't think we need many at all. If we add four or five players to what we have, and if we can get half a dozen that would be ideal. 'I always try to improve, to make the squad better and bring in better players, and I'll be striving to do that. 'I think the more talent we can have in the squad, the better it becomes, but the thing we can't forget is this league is about graft, hard work, the fundamentals and winning individual battles, so we need different qualities within the squad, and we have that. 'We have leaders here, but I would like a few more, to make sure that we can take accountability and show those characteristics on the pitch.' Hamilton kept 16 players from last season, with Steven Bradley, Dean Lyness, Tony Gallagher, Fergus Owens, Stephen Hendrie, Dylan McGowan, Cian Newbury, Lee Kilday, Ben Williamson, Barry Maguire, Connor Smith, Kyle MacDonald, Kevin O'Hara, Oli Shaw, Scott Robinson and Stuart McKinstry all staying on. Rankin said: 'Retaining players and keeping them at the club was important to what we;re trying to do. ‌ 'When I met a lot of them over the summer, we were in-between stadiums, in and out of various hotels and different locations, and that becomes hard, because players know they're moving stadiums, but it's not quite confirmed. 'When we sat down and spoke, the players were committed to the football side of things, they wanted to stay. They enjoy the club, the way they're made to feel, and playing for the jersey and the supporters. ‌ 'They wanted to stay, and play for ourselves, so we were delighted with that, and we're making sure that we keep that core squad together. 'We were competitive last season in the Championship, and keeping the majority of them together was important to us. 'Obviously boys have wanted to move on, some were out of contract and others had different clauses to go, which is their choice. ‌ 'By my count we lost 11 last season, with loans, but I'm delighted that we've been able to keep the bulk of it. 'There's a lot of potential there, a lot of talent, and we need to make sure we continue to get the most out of them and drive them to new levels, but also make sure we build their confidence so we can start the season the way we want to.' Rankin says having young players Cian Newbury, Fergus Owens and Ben Williamson back from injury will be like three new signings. ‌ He said: 'Cian had a great debut season, but needed to play consistent games, so went out on loan to Dumbarton and won a promotion, did really well, came back and did his cruciate, unfortunately for him. 'He's joining in pre-season just now, wee bits of running, some bits of ball work, so hopefully he's not too far away. ‌ 'Fergus we will need to be a wee bit more patient with, he'll be slightly longer, but he will be like a new signing. 'Ben is building himself up, so hopefully we get him back soon and get them on the pitch. 'They will be like three new players, but we can't expect them to go from doing nothing for six, seven, eight months to a year to foot to the floor straight away. 'We need to be patient with them, to make sure they have the right bodies and strength to help them on their pathway to try and recover. 'But I will be delighted to get them back, they will be big players for us this season, and ultimately they missed the bulk of last season.'

Hamilton Accies friendly win delights Caledonian Braves boss as his side kick-off pre-season

Ricky Waddell was pleased with his side's performance in a closed doors game Caledonian Braves boss Ricky Waddell says he got what he hoped for as his side beat Hamilton Accies 2-1 in a closed doors friendly at Ravenscraig on Saturday. Goals from Lennon Walker and Marc Kelly gave Braves the win over League One Accies, and Waddell was delighted with their start to pre-season. ‌ He said: 'It was good, it was our first game. I'm not sure how many games Accies had played, but it was a good test for us. ‌ 'I was excited for the game, because I felt it would be a good opportunity for us to show what we can do, and I think we did that, we won the game 2-1. 'We had spells when we were really good, we had spells when we really had to defend, so it was an excellent game for us. 'I was quite impressed by Accies in general, in terms of how they played the game and things like that, but I was impressed with ourselves as well. 'It was a good start off for us, not only the result, but to see the characteristics that I wanted to see from the guys.' Braves will continue their pre-season programme with a closed-doors game against Clyde, an official friendly against West of Scotland Premier Division side Shotts Bon Accord, before heading to England for clashes against Morpeth Town and Workington Town. Waddell's side will end their programme against Largs Thistle, ahead of the Lowland League kick-off. ‌ The Braves boss said: 'Pre-season has been good so far. We've got a couple of games, so we have a good pre-season planned. So far so good, hopefully not really any injuries, though there are one or two as usual. 'Our last game of the pre-season calendar is against Largs Thistle, which will need to be away, because our pitch isn't done yet, so we're busy! ‌ 'Everybody's back in good shape. They've had four weeks off, which isn't really that much. 'We finished on May 23, so it was pretty much exactly four weeks before we were back, but they're young guys anyway, so they don't lose too much fitness. 'They've all come back fit, and they know what to expect anyway – it would be a hard time for them if they're coming back not in good shape. ‌ 'We don't hammer them, but at the same time, pre-season is tough, it's designed to be tough, to get them up to a level of fitness where they can go and attack the season.' Waddell is running the rule over former Queen's Park and East Kilbride midfielder Calum Biggar as he looks to shape his squad. ‌ He said: 'Recruitment is pretty much done. I have one other player in, Calum Biggar has come in from East Kilbride, who I know quite well. 'I just need to look at the full squad. We don't have a player like Calum, but I need to look at the numbers, budget as well and that's all going to come into it. 'Calum got in touch with myself, I know him. I tried to get Calum a couple of years ago when he went to East Kilbride, and we touched base over the summer there and I told him to come in. 'He's certainly not on trial, I know exactly what Calum can do, but it's so I can get a look at him in amongst our group and get a chat with him and see what he's feeling about the place. 'I'm not looking to recruit too much more, if anything, one more at the max, and that would be the only one I would be looking at, at the minute.'
