Djeidi Gassama will get Rangers fans on the edge of their seats
Gassama, 21, made one appearance for the French side alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe before joining Wednesday in 2023 and scored 12 goals in 84 games for the Owls.
The France Under-20 international has now moved to Glasgow for an undisclosed fee, understood to be about £2.2million.
💙 Welcome to Rangers, Djeidi Gassama.
— Rangers Football Club (@RangersFC) July 15, 2025
Martin told Rangers' website: 'We are very excited to bring Djeidi to the club. He is certainly an exciting player who will get supporters on the edge of their seats and I believe he will add an extra dimension to our attack with his qualities.
'He is hungry to improve as a player and, most importantly, is desperate to pull on the Rangers jersey and help deliver success to the club.'
Gassama added: 'I am very excited to start with my new club, it is a club with a lot of history and I am very happy. This is a big club, and I need that for my next level and I think it can help me progress.'
Gassama had the best of tuition as an up-and-coming player.
He trained at PSG alongside world superstars Messi, Mbappe and Neymar and he believes that has stood him in good stead for his football journey, which continues in Glasgow.
He said: 'I started playing when I was young and then I played for the under-19's at PSG and made my debut.
'It was crazy to be in a team with players like Messi, Mbappe, Neymar.
'It was a good experience for me to train with them, I learned a lot of things about the gym, what they do on and off the pitch.
'They give 100 per cent and when you see them, you have to do the same and even the training with them is like a game.
'The last two years moving to Sheffield, they gave me a good progression and a good experience in English football.
'I took my chance and now I am here and I think I can continue to improve here.'

Stuart Pearce tells Man Utd and Arsenal to sign 'magnificent' 20-goal forward
Stuart Pearce has 'no doubt' that Manchester United and Arsenal have been looking at a deal to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford this summer. Wissa, who mainly operates as a centre-forward but can also play as a left winger, scored 20 goals for Brentford last season across all competitions. The 28-year-old DR Congo star was linked to Tottenham last month, with Spurs now under the management of former Bees boss Thomas Frank. But Pearce feels Wissa would be a 'major asset' for the likes of United and Arsenal if they were to recruit him in the current summer transfer window. 'There's no doubt Manchester United and Arsenal would have been looking at Yoane Wissa,' Pearce told BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League odds. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. The goals he's delivered while playing with width and playing down the middle as well. 'That's a major asset for any football club and the fact that Nottingham Forest have moved the odd player on recently, along with other sides in the division, you would think that by the time the season starts, he might well have moved on [from Brentford].' It's reported that Brentford want at least £50m to even consider selling Wissa before the start of the 2025-26 campaign. Wissa has played a total of 137 Premier League games for Brentford to date, registering 45 goals and 13 assists. He joined the Bees four years ago from French side Lorient and Wissa is under contract at the Gtech Community Stadium until June 2026, with the option to extend the deal for a further year. Meanwhile, Pearce has advised current Arsenal star Ethan Nwaneri, 18, to snub a move to Newcastle United in the summer transfer window. 'Ethan Nwaneri to Newcastle? If I was advising the player, I would advise him to stay at Arsenal and fight for his place for another year because of his age,' Pearce added. More Trending 'Or alternatively, go to a club that you're not gambling on whether you're going to get in the first team or not. 'What he needs to do is play 30 plus games next season and be a regular starter. 'I'm not sure that at Newcastle he'd get those 30 starts, we're not talking about 30 games coming off the bench. 'That is key for the correct move for him.' I've just had some breaking Conor Coady news confirmed and it's exactly what Rangers want to hear
Our man Keith Jackson kicked off tonight's Hotline Live with some breaking news about Conor Coady Leicester have identified their replacement for Conor Coady – and he could even be in place at Ibrox to be registered before tomorrow night's Champions League deadline. That's the breaking news that kicked off tonight's Hotline Live, and it will be music to Rangers ' ears as they look to get a deal for the defender over the line. Russell Martin has been eyeing a move for experienced defender Coady since the window opened but it's been held up at Leicester's end due to a change in manager. But Marti Cifuentes is in place now and, as he flies out for pre-season with his new squad, there was no sign of Coady in footage or images from training or from the airport. tonight's Hotline Live, it's all pointing in one direction. "Before we came on tonight, it was confirmed to me that Leicester have been in talks with another centre-half who they see as a ready-made replacement for Coady. "An English guy with bags of Premier League experience, who they feel fits the profile that well be left if Conor Coady was to leave. These talks have been ongoing for a couple of days and, I believe, at quite an advanced stage. "So then you tie into that the new boss at Leicester, Marti Cifuentes, has started work today – the club released a bit of footage from the training ground and there was no sign of Coady. "Then minutes before we came on, footage emerged from Midlands airport of the Leicester players getting on board a chartered flight. And without being definitive on it, we couldn't see any sign that Coady was among the players making the trip. "From a Rangers perspective, given the news we broke 24 hours ago – we did say that we would be in a position to give them more of a clue about the situation tonight. And at this time tonight, I think we've established that Rangers have got their eyes on a replacement, and there is no sign of Conor Coady is on Leicester's flight to Austria. "The significance of all of that is Rangers need to register their squad for Panathinaikos tomorrow night. Two players can be added to that 24 hours ahead of kickoff, so there is some leeway to make some late changes to that. "But in an ideal world for Russell Martin, and for Conor Coady, they'd like to be in a position to have his name on that list when it's registered with UEFA tomorrow night. It looks like it's heading in that direction, but it's a story we're very much working on. My phone's still going – we might even get some sort of confirmation during the show..." Chelsea weigh up swoop for £40million Arsenal and Liverpool transfer target
Chelsea are still in the market for new signings and the Blues could soon swoop for an Ajax defender who has been on the radar of both Arsenal and Liverpool in the past 12 months Chelsea are understood to be mulling over a move for Jorrel Hato, the highly-rated Ajax defender who has previously been of interest to both Arsenal and Liverpool. The Blues are in the market for more quality reinforcements ahead of the new Premier League campaign and have seen their coffers significantly boosted by their ventures at the Club World Cup, which has netted them an estimated £97million. Deals for Liam Delap and Joao Pedro means Enzo Maresca already has far more depth in attack ahead of the 2025-26 season. And it's now emerged that Chelsea are keen on strengthening at the other end of the pitch before the transfer window shuts with a new defender on their summer wishlist. With that in mind, says that Hato, 19, is emerging as a serious target for Chelsea, though they are not the only English team who admire the Netherlands star. Liverpool are known to be big fans of the central defender, who can also operate at left-back. Arsenal, too, have previously been credited with an interest in Hato, who it's understood could be snapped up for around £40m this summer. It's Hato's versatility which seems to appeal to Chelsea, with the report adding that they are set to be without a natural left-back to provide competition and support for Marc Cucurella. That's because Ben Chilwell, Renato Veiga and Ishe Samuels-Smith are all expected to depart this summer with the latter currently in talks over a move to the Blues' sister club, Strasbourg. Hato has made a big impression since breaking into the Ajax first-team and, as outlined above, has regularly been linked with a move to the Premier League. The defender's presence at Anfield for a league game between Liverpool and Ipswich Town back in January only fuelled speculation that the Ajax star was primed to swap Amsterdam for Merseyside. But it was subsequently explained that Hato was simply at the game after being invited by his friend, Ryan Gravenberch. Speaking about transfer speculation previously, Hato said: "I read it all [the transfer rumours]. But I also know that not everything was right. "For my development it's best that I stay at Ajax now. I was invited by Ryan Gravenberch. But I didn't speak to a director there. Liverpool played well and the atmosphere in the stadium was good, but there is no more to say."
