PBS dismisses corruption allegations as politically driven attacks

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has vehemently rejected recent corruption allegations against the party and its leaders, labelling the claims as baseless and politically motivated.
The party's secretary-general, Datuk Julita Majungki, condemned these "desperate political attacks" aimed at tarnishing PBS's image and undermining public trust.
"These accusations are not only false, but they are clearly orchestrated as part of a political agenda," she said in a statement on Monday (June 30).
Majungki emphasised that PBS has always upheld core values of integrity, humility, and public service, consistently advocating for justice, fairness, and Sabah's autonomy within the Malaysian federation.
"It is unfortunate that in today's political climate, when a party consistently stands for truth and refuses to compromise its principles, it becomes a target.
"The attacks we are facing are not new. They are part of a familiar pattern of political persecution against those who refuse to engage in backroom deals," she said.
Majungki highlighted that PBS leaders are known for their clean record and modest lifestyle, rooted in a long-standing tradition of grassroots service.
"These are not mere claims … they are values we live by, and the people who know us best can vouch for our commitment to simplicity and honest leadership.
"You can attack our name, but you cannot destroy our principles. We will not retaliate with lies or slander. Instead, we will continue to serve Sabah with honesty, humility, and strength of character," Majungki said, addressing critics directly.
She added that PBS, as the oldest multicultural party in Sabah, welcomed investigations by independent and competent authorities, expressing confidence that the truth will ultimately prevail.
"We urge the public not to be swayed by politically charged narratives. In the end, the people of Sabah know who is truly working for them, and who is merely playing politics," she said.
She reiterated the party's commitment to "walk the straight path" despite the malicious attacks.
The statement follows a report by an online news portal claiming that a Sabah mining bribery probe has widened to implicate more high-ranking leaders from PBS and Sabah STAR, both components of the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.

Anwar begins working visits to Italy, France and Brazil from Tuesday
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will undertake a series of visits to three countries – Italy, France, and Brazil – beginning July 1. This series of visits by the Prime Minister, beginning with a three-day working visit to Italy starting today, is part of Malaysia's ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and promote economic cooperation at the global level. Malaysia's Ambassador to Italy, Datuk Zahid Rastam, noted that the Prime Minister's inaugural visit to Italy is being undertaken at the invitation of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. "This visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations between Malaysia and Italy across a wide range of sectors. It also reflects the government's commitment to exploring new initiatives in trade and investment, as well as cooperation in defence, energy, and agro-commodities," he told reporters in Malaysia via Google Meet from Rome on Monday. According to Wisma Putra, the Prime Minister will attend the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as a partner country in the bloc comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Zahid stated that during the visit to Italy, the Prime Minister will be accompanied by five Cabinet ministers: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Khaled Nordin, and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. Also part of the delegation is Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir. According to Zahid, the Prime Minister will also be accompanied by relevant senior government officials and a corporate delegation comprising representatives from 13 Malaysian companies across various sectors. Anwar set for maiden three-day visit to Italy to boost ties

PBS No 2 denies alleged links to Sabah mining scandal
Sabah rural development minister Jahid Jahim claimed certain parties were abusing news portals to fabricate false allegations of corruption, often before any official investigation had been held. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Parti Bersatu Sabah deputy president Jahid Jahim has denied allegations that he had accepted a RM150,000 bribe in the alleged mining scandal in the state. Jahid, who is the Sabah rural development minister, said the allegations published in a Malaysiakini report were unfounded and irresponsible, The Borneo Post reported. He maintained that he had never received funds for the approval or issuance of mining licences in the state and that his ministry was not responsible for processing such licences. 'As the assemblyman for Tamparuli, I wish to state unequivocally that no prospecting licence or any other licence related to mining has been approved or issued in my constituency,' said the four-term assemblyman. He claimed that certain parties were abusing news portals to fabricate false allegations of corruption, often before any official investigation had been held. 'This attempt by Malaysiakini to manufacture a false narrative is an outright violation of the law. It invites the public to pass judgment before the due process has run its course,' he said. He said he is seeking legal advice and reserves the right to pursue legal action against Malaysiakini and the two journalists involved in the report. The alleged scandal was reported last year after a series of videos linking several Sabah assemblymen to it were leaked. The videos allegedly depicted discussions involving bribery and misconduct related to mineral exploration projects in the state. Yesterday, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) president Jeffrey Kitingan denied a Malaysiakini report alleging he received RM1.78 million in connection with the alleged scandal. The deputy chief minister said he reserved the right to take legal action against the news portal over the 'irresponsible and damaging' report. This morning, Sabah assistant industrial development and entrepreneurship minister Andi Suryady Bandy, Sindumin assemblyman Yusof Yacob and businessman Albert Tei were charged with receiving and giving RM350,000 in bribes related to mineral prospecting licence applications in the state. Andi, of Umno, and Yusof, of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, were charged with receiving RM200,000 and RM150,000 in bribes, respectively, while Tei was charged with giving the bribes.
