Luke Littler hammers Ryan Searle on World Matchplay debut

Luke Littler stormed through to the second round of his debut World Matchplay with a 10-2 rout of Ryan Searle. Littler, the second seed on his first appearance at Blackpool's Winter Gardens, looked like a man in a hurry as he jumped out to a 6-0 lead. And although Searle was able to get on the board late on, there was never going to be any way back against Littler, who averaged nearly 109. 'I was well up for tonight,' Littler said on Sky Sports. 'I wanted that win, to get that winning feeling and I've done it in some standard.' After revealing earlier this week he had failed his driving theory test for a fourth time, Littler said he has not been doing his homework for that as he has been keeping his focus on his game, adding: 'I've got a competition to focus on.' 'I've been practising so much,' he said. 'Obviously I've not put much on social media but I've been at home putting the hours in, hours and hours, and I'm glad it's paid off tonight.' Fifth seed Jonny Clayton survived a tough contest against Martin Schindler to prevail 10-7, despite the German putting up better numbers for much of the contest. Clayton's average was 99.60 compared to Schindler's 103.45 but the Welshman picked his moments to advance. 'I am here, I want to win this tournament,' Clayton said. 'Hopefully it is going to be my week. I love it when I pass the first round.' Earlier 13th seed Gary Anderson saw off Luke Woodhouse 10-5 despite a spectacular 167 checkout from the Englishman. Four seeds were sent home during Sunday's afternoon session as further shocks followed Saturday's exits of top seed Luke Humphries and eighth seed Nathan Aspinall. Seventh seed Damon Heta fell to Andrew Gilding in a contest that went to overtime, with Gilding eventually prevailing 12-10 after a late fightback came to nothing for Heta. Gilding advances to face Dirk van Duijvenbode, who saw off 10th seed Rob Cross 10-8 after rallying from 6-2 down in a remarkable contest. Jermaine Wattimena beat 15th seed Peter Wright 10-8 while Mike De Decker beat 12th seed Dave Chisnall 10-7.

Paul Pogba gives honest verdict on Marcus Rashford's Barcelona move as Man United outcast nears loan to Spanish giants

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has given his thoughts on Marcus Rashford's impending loan move to Barcelona. There is an agreement in principle for Rashford to join the Catalan outfit on a season-long loan from Old Trafford. The deal will include an option for Barcelona to sign the England international permanently next summer. Rashford was exiled shortly after Ruben Amorim took charge last season and it has become clear that he has no future at Old Trafford under the Portuguese manager. Pogba left United in 2022 and there are similarities between their two United careers. Speaking to YouTube star IShowSpeed on a boat for beIN Sports, the new AS Monaco star reacted to the news. 😱 "Crazy... but I'm happy for him!" Paul Pogba talks about Rashford's move to Barcelona with Speed 📹 IShowSpeed #beINSPORTS #PaulPogba #MarcusRashford — beIN SPORTS USA (@beINSPORTSUSA) July 20, 2025 'That's crazy, but I'm happy for him because they [United] took his number. Manchester United are losing a great player. Unlucky for them. 'It's great for Barcelona to be honest. I'm not even talking about United, because they've bought a few new players and the new manager wants to do his thing I guess. 'It's not really his [Amorim's] fault. If he doesn't believe in someone. He needs to win. If he doesn't win they're going to sack him.' Rashford began to fall out of favour under Erik ten Hag before things got worse under new manager Ruben Amorim. The Englishman was exiled by the Portuguese before joining Aston Villa on loan for the second half of the season. During his time at Villa, Rashford made 17 appearances and scored four goals, while he provided six assists. His current contract at United runs until the summer of 2028. Barcelona are set to pay all of Rashford's £315,000-a-week wages during his loan move. The 27-year-old has been training away from the United squad at Carrington in pre-season so far and has been joined by Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia. Another sign of Rashford's imminent departure from United came when his No10 shirt was given to new signing Matheus Cunha earlier this month. Rashford has played 426 games for United and has scored 138 goals and he has also provided 77 assists. He has won the FA Cup and the EFL Cup twice each and the Europa League once.
