Kings Co Imperial celebrates 10 years with smashburger dumplings and iconic chefs

In 2015, Kings Co Imperial made its debut in Williamsburg, spinning on Chinese classics with a Brooklyn twist. Countless orders of wok-seared dumplings and one sister spot in the Lower East Side later, and the restaurant has reached its ten-year milestone. To mark a decade in service, the restaurant has invited chefs from around NYC to the kitchen to cook up classics of their own.
Starting this month, both locations of Kings Co Imperial are celebrating the anniversary with the summertime series, 'Dishes of a Decade.' From June 18 through September 30, the Chinese restaurant concept is inviting iconic chefs and eateries across NYC to create limited-edition dishes. For chef and co-owner Josh Grinker of Kings Co Imperial, it is all about celebrating those who have inspired them along the way.
'This series is about honoring the city that shaped us—and sharing the table with chefs we admire, whose food has inspired us over the years,' said Grinker in a press release. 'Nobody in this city accomplishes anything by themselves. Being in business for 10 years is a testament to our neighbors, our customers, our vendors and more.'
Harlem's JJ Johnson is kicking things off this month. Infusing his African Caribbean heritage into a tried-and-true Chinese dish, Johnson's Jerk Duck Fried Rice special comes with a crown of ginger scallions and a fried egg. Rubirosa is bringing three of its time-honored pizza recipes to the restaurant: The Red with Rubirosa's signature vodka sauce, fresh mozzarella and Italian sausage; The Green with pesto and marinara; and half-red, half-green pie called the Tie Dye. But instead of pizza dough, the base of each will be scallion pancakes.
George Motz of the West Village's Hamburger America is bringing a taste of Americana to the humble dumpling with the Fried Onion and Cheeseburger Dumpling (a dip of French's Chinese mustard is optional), while Emily Yuen of Greenpoint's Lingo is serving bowls of Bone-In Shio Koji Tonkatsu with Hong Kong curry and Chinese pickles. Settepani will finish the series with something sweet by serving a Cannoli Crumble with mango and honey.
Each dish will be on rotation for a two-week period. And once it's gone, it's gone. So check out the full lineup of eats below and plan your summer calendar accordingly.

The head of entertainment group Skydance — poised to take over media conglomerate Paramount Global — told federal officials he is pursuing a focus on 'American storytelling' while touting a new, 'unbiased' editorial direction for CBS News. David Ellison, Skydance's CEO, met with Federal Communications Chairman Brendan Carr to seek approval for his firm's long-in-the-making merger with Paramount, according to a letter from a Skydance lawyer included in a federal filing. The transaction has roiled Paramount subsidiary CBS News and its longtime crown jewel, '60 Minutes,' amid fights over its editorial independence. Ellison is the son of tech billionaire Larry Ellison, a major supporter of President Donald Trump. David Ellison and Skydance's general counsel said they expressed their commitment to embracing 'diverse viewpoints' that will reflect 'the varied ideological perspectives of American viewers,' according to the filing. They also also addressed concerns about potential Chinese influence, saying that China-based tech giant Tencent, which holds a stake in Skydance, will own only a non-voting, passive interest in any new version of Paramount of less than 5%. Paramount, which also owns Comedy Central and its namesake movie studio, among other major media entities, declined to comment. Since Skydance announced its intention to merge with Paramount in an $8 billion transaction a year ago, the deal has faced multiple delays — first under the outgoing Biden administration, then under Trump. The president accused CBS News' marquee program, '60 Minutes,' of distorting an interview with Democratic opponent Kamala Harris during the 2024 election and subsequently filed a lawsuit. While many legal experts viewed the suit as frivolous, media reports said Paramount boss Shari Redstone favored exploring a settlement with Trump as a way to overcome further regulatory hurdles. The settlement, for $16 million, was announced earlier this month. The settlement, and the negotiations leading up to it, rankled several high-profile members of CBS. '60 Minutes' correspondent Scott Pelley said in June that such an agreement would be 'very damaging' to CBS and Paramount. In April, longtime '60 Minutes' editor Bill Owens stepped down, citing the program's loss of editorial independence. CBS News boss Wendy McMahon quit a month later. On Monday's episode of 'The Late Show,' host Stephen Colbert, a frequent Trump critic, blasted the agreement as a 'big fat bribe.' On Thursday, CBS said it would cancel the 32-year-old late night franchise, effective in May, for financial reasons. Trump cheered the announcement Friday on Truth Social, his social media site, saying that he 'absolutely loves' the decision.

Shelly was inspired by a visit to Mijas, Spain, and her dream to one day visit Santorini. 'I loved the crisp white walls and those beautiful blue pots everywhere. I just wanted that vibe at home,' she explains. Determined to bring the look to life, Shelly turned to Temu, the popular online marketplace, as she says: 'I added everything to my Temu basket, wanting a proper Mediterranean feel.' Her haul included artificial hanging plants, giant simulated plants, palm hybrid plants and artificial jasmine vines. Not only this, but she also ordered a garden hose, plant pots, pillow fillers, cushions, and even a shower curtain she repurposed as part of her backdrop. Remarkably, she achieved the entire look for under £100, excluding the sofa she already owned, as she adds: 'It was so easy to shop all in one place.' Nearly everything in her garden now comes from Temu, from the ceramic planters to the decorative accents. And now, her garden has become a favourite spot for her and Mark to relax. But that's not all, as family and friends have been full of compliments too, as she proudly explains: 'They can't believe how much it's transformed. My garden was looking so old and the patio was broken - now it's a lush oasis and people can't believe how little I spent 'It really feels like a little holiday escape.' For those looking to do a similar refresh, Shelly advises: 'Plan the look first, then add to your basket bit by bit. It stops you from buying things you don't need. Why is Temu so cheap? TEMU exploded onto the scene in late 2022, with people all over social media raving about the low prices. The company is a Chinese-owned digital marketplace - essentially an online shopping app where people are connected to the retailer directly while the app takes care of the shipping element. The frenzy over the app is not completely unfounded either as it offers a wide variety of products, including fashion, make-up, electronics and furniture. According to a report from the US House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, Temu takes advantage of a trade loophole that allows the company to ship duty-free goods directly to the US. The loophole is called the de minimis exception and it means they can ship goods valued up to $800 (£643) to the US without it being inspected or taxed by US customs. Temu connects customers directly to manufacturers and only manages how the items are sent to customers. It means Chinese vendors can essentially sell their products directly to customers and ship it without building a network of warehouses across the globe. By doing this, they cut down on huge costs and ensure the product itself isn't marked up extra. While many of the products seen on the Temu app are from brands with extensive, original collections, many more are dupes of designer brands. 'And if you're using a backdrop, build a frame first. Screw it to the wall and staple the material. It gives a proper finished look and it lasts.' But Shelly isn't the only one turning to Temu to unlock her creativity. I added everything to my Temu basket, wanting a proper Mediterranean feel Shelly Lou A recent IPSOS survey commissioned by the platform shows that 1 in 3 British users say Temu helps them explore new ways to decorate their home, with respondents saving around 25%. More than 80% say Temu offers good value for money, reflecting strong consumer confidence in the platform's quality and affordability. With her clever use of Temu and a clear vision, Shelly has transformed her garden into a perfect example of how style and functionality can go hand in hand - and how a little inspiration goes a long way.
