KUALA LUMPUR - Singer Aina Abdul described the opportunity to record the theme song for the Asean Summit 2025, 'Our Land Our Home' - centered on the theme of unity - as a profound and meaningful milestone in her artistic journey.
According to Aina, whose full name is Nurul Aina Abdul Ghani, the experience of working with veteran composer Datuk Mokhzani Ismail and lyricist Rafiza Rahman added tremendous value to her growth as a singer.
"I only lent my voice but I feel truly honoured to perform this powerful song. It's in English and there were challenges in pronunciation and the detailed musical notation," she told Bernama.
Recorded at the RTM studio under the guidance of a vocal director and the lyricist herself, the 31-year-old artiste admitted that the technical approach required a high level of discipline, especially in adhering strictly to the notation.

Aina said the process of interpreting and delivering the song gave her a deeper appreciation for the theme of Asean unity.
The 'Puas Sudah' singer said through the storytelling-style lyrics, she came to understand the noble values and unique cultural identities of Asean member states.
"This song opened my eyes to the beauty and richness of cultures beyond Malaysia. It reminded me that music has the power to unite us, regardless of borders," she said.
Aina, who won the Best Performance award at the 39th Anugerah Juara Lagu, said the experience of recording the song shifted her perspective on the role of music in conveying powerful messages and fostering unity.
She described music as a universal medium capable of transcending cultural and linguistic boundaries, making it an effective tool for regional solidarity.
"We shouldn't underestimate the power of music to bring people together. This song proves that music can cross borders and deliver a powerful message, not just to Malaysians but to listeners across Asean," she added. - BERNAMA

Winners prove being blind is no impediment
KUALA LUMPUR: Being blind shouldn't stop anyone from taking part in competitions, even typing contests. That's what the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) proved through its inaugural Black Screen Typist Competition, a typing contest designed for the visually impaired. More than 23 participants took part, relying on audio cues to test their hearing and typing skills. They were scored on accuracy and speed. Rishan Ponraj Sivaaj won the Bahasa Melayu category with a score of 92.5 out of 100. He was surprised by his win, saying it was his first time competing in such a contest. Blind since birth, Rishan said one of his biggest challenges was accepting his condition. "As a child, it was hard to understand why I was different. I didn't have many friends to play with, which made things more isolating." With his family's support, he gradually adapted. Now 25, he is pursuing a graduate programme at a bank and hopes that the competition will raise awareness of what visually impaired people can do. "I hope that this competition opens society's eyes to the fact that we are just as capable of using computers as sighted people." Tang Kah Hung, who won the English category with a score of 80.5, credited his speed to helping with his family's photocopying business. He lost his vision at 16 due to a brain tumour. He said while the experience was devastating, time and support helped him adjust. "At first, I felt despair. But with time, I learnt to accept my blindness and appreciate my remaining senses — hearing, touch, taste and smell," he said. He added that such contests promoted typing skills and encouraged others not to hesitate to seek help. "Don't be shy about asking for help — whether from a senior or a blind association offering computer courses." MAB ICT senior executive Hafiyyan Lali said the event highlighted the technological capabilities of the visually impaired. "The goal is to show that with digital accessibility, blind people can perform on par with everyone else." Amy Search files report against Shila Amzah over attack claim

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Veteran rocker Amy Search has lodged a police report against singer Shila Amzah following her claim that she was attacked by a senior artiste during a concert rehearsal at the Merdeka Stadium in Kuala Lumpur. Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed that a report from Amy, whose real name is Suhaimi Abdul Rahman, was received last night. 'Yes, a report was lodged, but it was more of a 'counter report' and a denial. The case has been referred to the Dang Wangi police headquarters,' he said, according to Berita Harian. Earlier, Harian Metro reported that Amy had given his statement at the Shah Alam police headquarters yesterday. This follows an allegation that Amy had scolded Shila during the concert rehearsal last Thursday. On Friday, Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said an investigation paper into Shila's claim had been opened following a report filed by her. The case is being investigated for criminal intimidation. Shila, whose full name is Nurshahila Amir Amzah, claimed on Instagram that she was openly attacked in front of crew members during the rehearsal. Several veteran and popular artistes have been lined up for the concert.
