The mass funeral of the Zion Christian Church congregants is taking place in Silethukukhayanya High School in Mtubatuba Municipality.
The provincial transport department said that Sunday marked the final stage of mourning.
Department's spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya said: "We wish to draw the attention of the media to the following activities: Mkhwanazi family: this is a child-headed household following the death of Mama Winnie Nobuhle Mkhwanazi (52) on Mother's Day. The children are now orphans, with no source of income. To complicate matters, children are living in abject poverty and in a dilapidated mud house. Tomorrow, we will announce interventions by the Department of Human Settlements."

Ramaphosa urges swift action on political killing interference probe

President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the political killings in the country and called for the Commission of Inquiry into police corruption to act swiftly. Speaking to the media during a meeting with the Northern Cape Provincial Executive, he said the KwaZulu-Natal Task Team has done 'tremendous work.' His comments follow the recent killing of African National Congress (ANC) member and Chief Whip of the Emalahleni Local Municipality, Xoliseka Lali, who was gunned down in the Eastern Cape. The motive behind the murder remains unclear, and police investigations are ongoing. Ramaphosa said he expects the Judicial Commission of Inquiry, tasked with probing political interference, criminality, and corruption in the country's criminal justice system, to conclude its work without delay. The Presidency also retweeted a video in which Ramaphosa expressed his determination to get to the bottom of explosive allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. The Commission has three months to deliver its initial report. 'This is a commission that everyone in the country would like to see quick answers coming from,' said Ramaphosa. Political killings have come under increased scrutiny following Mkhwanazi's claims that criminal syndicates have infiltrated South Africa's law enforcement structures. In a media briefing earlier this month, Mkhwanazi alleged that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu interfered with police investigations and colluded in the disbanding of the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team. KZN retired judge: Never collusion in my time on the bench

DURBAN - KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has opened a can of worms. His allegations of corruption are not just limited to the rot in the SAPS, but he also claims the justice system is infiltrated. Mkhwanazi says there is collusion between judges and criminals. It's an allegation that does not sit well with the first black Judge President of KwaZulu-Natal, Vuka Tshabalala. READ: Malema invites Mkhwanazi to join the EFF The former judge knows all too well about being a trailblazer. His law career spanned decades. From being the first black advocate of the Natal Bar Council in 1969, to being the first black Deputy Judge President in October 1998, and finally Judge President. Tshabalala's journey in jurisprudence was not an easy one, and has been full of many obstacles. A revolt from his colleagues at the Natal High Court, and even an aggressive journalist in a television interview. All of this is contained in his newly launched book 'On Trial'. READ: SAPS turmoil | Ad Hoc Committee to probe Mkhwanazi claims Having served the judiciary with integrity and dedication, Judge Tshabalala is shocked by Mkhwanazi's allegations of collusion, between justice officials and criminals. Among his many achievements, judge Tshabalala would like to be remembered, as pioneer of judicial transformation. He introduced black women judges at a time when it was frowned upon. By: Aviwe Mtila

Will Mkhwanazi accept gift of cows from the public?

KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has been promised two cows from a fundraising initiative that raised close to R50 000 by his supporters. But is he permitted to accept it as a gesture of gratitude? Earlier this month, notorious X troll Chris Excel launched a crowdfunding initiative to gift Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi two cows as a 'token of appreciation.' The initiative was a hit, raising R44 000 for the top cop who went public with allegations of corruption within the police department. While some have claimed that accepting the gift would equate to 'bribery', officials say otherwise. KZN police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, told The South African that police may accept gifts, for any reason, provided that they declare that it is not a gratification. 'There is a gift register in the SAPS that police officers sign to declare all gifts', he said. According to Excel, the BackaBuddy funds will be released once Mkhwanazi publicly acknowledges the gesture. Meanwhile, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has garnered widespread support – from the public to political parties – around South Africa. 'Hands off Mkhwanazi' has been a trending topic on social media, with many publicly pledging to support the KZN commissioner. South Africans have even threatened to riot and loot should any action be taken against him. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 .
