UFC 318 winner Jimmy Crute explains callout of 'crafty' Dustin Jacoby for Perth
Crute (13-4-2 MMA, 5-4-2 UFC) submitted Marcin Prachnio (17-9 MMA, 4-7 UFC) with a first-round armbar in Saturday's prelims at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. After the win, Crute called out Dustin Jacoby (21-9-1 MMA, 9-6-1 UFC) for the upcoming UFC Fight Night on Sept. 27 from RAC Arena in Perth.
"I just think it's a good fight for both of us," Crute told reporters during the post-fight news conference. "It's a good test for both of us, and I know that's not an easy fight. He's a hell of a crafty dude, so that's just the name that came to my head. I didn't think about it beforehand, but when I was in the moment, it popped into my head."
Crute returned to the win column for the first time since 2020. He took an almost two-year break from fighting in 2023 and feels rejuvenated to finally live up to his potential.
"I've been learning on the job," Crute said. "I had one amateur fight, seven pro wins, and outside of that, I had like 50 jiu-jitsu matches on the regional scene in Australia. No striking matches so, I've been learning on the job pretty much in the UFC. I don't have much experience in the way of fights so, I feel like it's my time to shine now. I see a world title in my picture for the first time in my career. I've never been able to visualize it, and I see it there."

UFC on ABC 9 video: Steven Nguyen makes history, deforms Mohammad Yahya's face
Steven Nguyen made history Saturday – at the expense of Mohammad Yahya's face. On the UFC on ABC 9 prelims, Nguyen (10-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) dropped Yahya (12-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) a record-breaking six times. The fight was stopped between Round 2 and Round 3 due to Yahya's grotesquely swollen eye. The fight took place at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Yahya hung tough throughout the beatdown, but the human body (or in this case, face) can only take so much. The swelling escalated around the final knockdown, which took place in Round 2. When his face was shown on the big screen between rounds, his distorted face got an audible reaction from the crowd. Nguyen picks up his first UFC victory in what was his first fight since his debut in March 2024. The Fortis MMA product moves to 4-1 in his most recent five. Yahya could be on the chopping block after coming up empty-handed three times in as many UFC fights. Up-to-the-minute UFC on ABC 9 results Steven Nguyen def.
