Scotland's knife crime targeted at new summit hosted by FM
Three teenage boys, aged 14, 15, and 16 years old have been arrested and charged in connection with the death of Amen Teklay, an Eritrean refugee, in Glasgow on March 5.
In recent weeks, three teenage boys – a pair aged 17, and a 14-year-old – have appeared in court charged with the murder of Kayden Moy who was attacked on Irvine Beach, North Ayrshire, on May 17 and died in hospital.

Later this month, a march against knife crime, Parents Against Knives, will take place in Glasgow organised by the family of Kory McCrimmon, 16, who died after he was stabbed in a park in Glasgow's east end on May 21 2024.
Police Scotland said that the total number of serious assaults by 11 to 18-year-olds fell 27% between 2019/20 and 2024/25 from 428 to 313, according to the Scottish Government.
An additional £82,000 funding for the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit was announced this week, and Medics Against Violence also received increased funding of up to £345,000 while a further £156,000 has been awarded to the Mentors in Violence Prevention programme.
The summit on Thursday will include the Justice and Education secretaries, Ministers for Children and for Victims and Community Safety, cross-party MSPs, youth workers and community programmes.
It follows discussions led by Mr Swinney to hear young people and families' experiences and ideas on possible solutions, and will focus on education and community engagement with young people and possible strategies preventing them from turning to anti-social behaviour or carrying a weapon.
Justice Secretary Angela Constance said: 'Scotland remains a safe place to live.
'But more needs to be done to change the attitudes and behaviours of some who are at risk of violence, or young people considering carrying a weapon.
'There is no place for violence in Scotland and anyone who commits a crime will face the consequences.
'Our work remains focused on ensuring our prevention and punishment measures respond to the changing behaviours of young people. This includes ensuring good school and community engagement with young people, appropriate police powers and tackling the root causes of violence.
'At this meeting we want to hear the views of the youth work and third sector representatives on what more, or different, can be done, within the current financial climate, to help address this issue.
'The role of youth work and grassroots community intervention is key.
'We all must work together to help young people feel safe and realise that carrying a knife is never the answer.'

The man who was accused of murdering a 17-year-old Long Beach girl who was walking home from her job at McDonald's has been sentenced to 358 years to life in prison. Troy Lamar Fox, 34, was convicted in March of first-degree murder for the killing of Briana Soto, a student who was gunned down just steps from her home. The jury also convicted him of four counts of attempted murder in a separate shooting on April 9, 2024, in which he opened fire on a car carrying four minors, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday. 'Briana Soto had her whole life ahead of her - she was getting ready for her prom, her 18th birthday, and graduation,' Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said. 'Today's sentence ensures the person who stole her future will never be free to harm another innocent person. While this punishment cannot undo the pain he caused, it is a step toward justice for Briana, her loved ones, and our community.' Lamar Fox was already in custody for an unrelated weapons violation when he was identified by Long Beach Police as the suspect who fatally shot Soto as she walked home from work. Soto was just outside her family's home on the evening of March 26 around 8:30pm when she was shot while on the phone with her mother. The teen's family heard the gunshots outside their home - rushing her to the hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries three days later. The suspect was caught on security footage moments after the shooting dressed in dark clothing with a mask covering his face. Long Beach Police investigated DNA, video and cell phone evidence before identifying Fox as the suspect who is believed to be involved in two other incidents on April 9 and July 7. On April 9, officers responded to a shots-fired call where a suspect, believed to be Fox, discharged a firearm in the direction of three juveniles and one adult in a vehicle. On July 7, cops arrived on the scene after a report of firearms inside of a vehicle. During the incident, officers located Fox and a juvenile suspect and later learned they were both prohibited possessors. Two firearms were recovered on the suspects and four firearms were recovered from the vehicle. Fox had an outstanding warrant for his arrest issued in November 2023 for violation of his parole terms. Following investigation into Soto's case, on September 11, detectives presented evidence to a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge and obtained an arrest warrant for Fox for the murder of the Long Beach teen. On September 13, cops took custody of Fox from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and booked him into the Long Beach City Jail. Police have not yet disclosed a motive behind the shootings.

And today Police Scotland again asked the public for assistance in tracking her down. The force said she vanished from Kilmarnock at around 8.15pm last Friday. The last sighting of the 36-year-old was in the East Ayrshire town's North Hamilton Street, and officers want locals to review CCTV footage or doorbell camera for any clues. A picture of Michelle, wearing a pink top, was posted on the Police Scotland Ayrshire Facebook page. The post said she is 5ft 5ins tall and is of medium build. The force said she also has long brown/blonde hair and that she has a distinctive tattoo on the left-hand-side of her face, which is a star design. The tattoo can be seen in the picture of her posted alongside the missing person appeal. The tattoo is two stars and sits underneath her eye, just above her cheek.
