Sundowns' Ribeiro wins Club World Cup goal of the tournament

Lucas Ribeiro Costa's goal against Borussia Dortmund has been voted the Goal of the Tournament of the FIFA Club World Cup, beating the likes of Lionel Messi, Jamal Musiala, Joao Pedro.
Ribeiro picked the ball up inside his own half and went on an incredible 67-yard run past two Borussia Dortmund defenders before slotting home past and outstretched Gregor Kobel.

The Brazilian opened the scoring for Sundowns in a thrilling seven-goal group stage encounter. However, Dortmund ultimately prevailed with a 4-3 victory in one of the tournament's most thrilling matches.
It was an amazing individual effort that has lived long in the minds of FIFA Club World Cup 2025 fans.
'I am always confident. I'm very happy to have scored the goal,' said Ribeiro.
'The moment I turned with the ball, I said, 'OK, let me go, let me put the ball in the space.' I'm happy with the goal, but the most important thing is that the team played well.'

'I have good speed. But not normally over a long distance. This was the difference for me scoring this goal,' added Ribeiro.
The Sundowns star's long-range run beat out the likes of Kenan Yildiz outside the box screamer against Wydad AC, Lionel Messi's free-kick finish against FC Porto and Joao Pedro's stunner against Fluminense FC.

Last season, Evidence Makgopa and Tshegofatso Mabasa both struggled to reach 10 goals in the league. If Orlando Pirates want to compete with Sundowns, they need at least one striker who can score over 10 goals. New signing Yanela Mbuthuma has never scored more than six league goals in a season and is unlikely to reach double figures in his first season. Acquiring another top striker could motivate all three forwards, similar to how Iqraam Rayners keeps Peter Shalulile on alert. PSL transfer news: Mofokeng, Coetzee, Kodisang, Mokwana
With the Premier Soccer League (PSL) set to kick off in three weeks, many teams have been active during the transfer window, working to strengthen their squads. Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have combined to sign 17 new players as they aim to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns. Both teams won a trophy last season but were unable to compete effectively against Masandawana in the league. Amakhosi and Pirates just completed their pre-season tour of Europe and will look to test their squads for the upcoming season. Sundowns have been relatively quiet since returning from the FIFA Club World Cup. 'Jose Riveiro wanted me back' – U/20 international
Egypt U/20 international Ahmed Khaled Kabaka says Jose Riveiro wanted him to return to Al Ahly following his loan spell at Modern Sport. The midfielder also credited former Modern Sport coach Talaat Yousef and the club's CEO Haitham Orabi, giving him the motivation to perform well during the brief loan spell 'My loan period was a success, and being promoted from the youth team to the first team with the coach's trust is a wonderful feeling,' Kabaka said as per Soccer Laduma . 'Haitham Orabi played a big role in giving me confidence and motivating me to do my best.'
