No bridge, kids wade across dangerous nullah to reach school in Himachal village
Due to sudden water flow in the nullah on Wednesday, the locals made the children cross the water body by carrying them on their backs. The children from villages Banni and Bhadra cross the nullah daily to reach Mandha School in Bharmour.
Banni Mata Nullah is a stream near Banni Mata Temple, an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, located in Chamba district. The students of Mandha School of Bharmour are daily risking their lives to cross the nullah to reach the school. More than 25 students attend the Mandha Senior Secondary School by crossing this nullah, the water levels of which rises even after a light rain. Local residents say they have raised the issue several times and demanded construction of a bridge across the nullah, but it is turned down each time due to paucity of funds.
Ward panch Ramesh Kumar said that they have been demanding construction of the bridge for a long time but nothing has been done so far. He said that the devotees who visit Banni Mata temple also have to cross the nullah.
'For the last two years I have been pushing for the construction of the bridge on the nullah but nothing has moved on the ground for lack of funds. The tenders have already been allotted but citing lack of funds the PWD department and local administration is not paying any heed,' said Janak Raj, a local MLA.
Education minister Rohit Thakur said, 'The safety of the children is paramount. The issue has been brought to my notice and we will ensure the work of the construction of the bridge is done at the earliest.'

Can A Son-in-Law Claim Father-in-Law's Property? Here's What The Law Says
A question that often arises is if a son-in-law have any legal right over his father-in-law's property. It's important to understand that the rules can differ based on religion; what applies to a Hindu father-in-law may not apply to a Muslim one. To begin with, let's clarify the basic principle: a son-in-law has no direct legal claim to his father-in-law's property, regardless of whether the family is Hindu, Muslim, or Christian. Under Indian inheritance laws, a son-in-law does not have any automatic or independent right over his in-laws' assets. What the Law Says for Hindus? For Hindus, the Hindu Succession Act of 1956 governs inheritance. This act applies to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists. According to the law, a son-in-law is not included in the list of legal heirs. Therefore, he cannot claim a share in his father-in-law's property directly. However, if the wife inherits property from her father, then the son-in-law can access that property indirectly, through his wife. For Christians, similar inheritance laws apply. A Christian son-in-law has no automatic legal claim to his father-in-law's property. His rights would only arise if his wife inherits property from her father, or the father-in-law writes a will or gifts the property directly to him. Just like with other religions, a gift deed must be registered, and local laws may also influence the process. In conclusion, inheritance laws in India are religion-specific, and in all major communities, a son-in-law does not have direct rights to his father-in-law's property. 62k students admitted to DU colleges, 12k seats vacant
Around 12,000 seats are still vacant in undergraduate programmes in Delhi University (DU) after admissions of over 62,000 students were confirmed in the first round, a senior university official said on Friday. This year, 93,166 allocations were made against 71,624 seats across 69 colleges. DU dean of admission Haneet Gandhi explained, 'There are about 12,000 vacant seats at the moment. This difference in data is due to the extra allocations made in the first round. If extra allocations had been made to a particular programme in a college and all the admissions were confirmed along with the extra, that would be reflected in the confirmed admission data.' 'However, if a certain programme has vacant seats where the majority of the students did not confirm their admission, that will be still counted in the vacant seat data,' Gandhi told HT on Friday. Gandhi added that the extra allocations will be adjusted in the subsequent rounds and upgrades. The university will make extra allocations in the second round as well, the list of which is scheduled to be out on July 28.
