‘A Different World' Sequel Series Pilot at Netflix Adds Six Series Regulars
Chibuikem Uche has been cast as Kojo along with Maleah Joi Moon as Deborah, Cornell Young as Shaquille, Jordan Aaron Hall as Amir, Alijah Kai Haggins as Rashida, and Kennedi McClure as Hazel.

The followup to 'A Different World' was first reported to be in development in August 2024, with the pilot being announced in March. As reported at that time, the new series would return to Hillman College, a fictional historically Black university, and follow the daughter of original series characters Whitley and Dwayne.
Felicia Pride serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the project. Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Bythewood also serve as executive producers. Werner produced the original show via The Carsey-Werner Company, while Allen also produced and directed the bulk of the original's 144 episodes. Sources say she would also direct the new pilot.
'A Different World' began as a spinoff of 'The Cosby Show' and followed Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) as she attends Hillman. But after Bonet departed the series following its first season, the focus shifted to characters played by Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Dawnn Lewis, Glynn Turman, Cory Tyler, Lou Myers, Darryl M. Bell, Cree Summer, and Charnele Brown.
Netflix has eschewed a traditional pilot process for most of its history, only announcing their first ever pilot order in 2023. The streamer has instead focused on straight-to-series orders or script-to-series deals for their shows. But Netflix also previously said that it would never have ads on the service only to begin offering an ad-supported tier in November 2022.

‘Eddington' actor Micheal Ward charged with rape and sexual assault in U.K.
British actor Micheal Ward, known for the Netflix series 'Top Boy' and and most recently Ari Aster's movie 'Eddington,' is facing charges of allegedly raping and sexually assaulting a woman in the United Kingdom in 2023. London's Metropolitan Police announced in a Friday statement that prosecutors had charged BAFTA winner Ward, 28, with two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault following an investigation into an alleged January 2023 incident. The statement did not provide details about the incident, including the location and the identity of Ward's accuser. 'Our specialist officers continue to support the woman who has come forward — we know investigations of this nature can have significant impact on those who make reports,' Det. Supt. Scott Ware said in the statement. Representatives for Ward did not immediately respond to The Times' request for comment Friday. The actor is due to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court in London on Aug. 28. Ward, who was born in Jamaica, broke into acting less than a decade ago, appearing in the British drama series 'Top Boy' and rapper Rapman's 2019 film 'Blue Story.' He won BAFTA's rising star award in 2020. That same year he appeared in 'The Old Guard' opposite Charlize Theron and in Steve McQueen's 'Small Axe' miniseries. His movie credits also include Sam Mendes' 'Empire of Light,' 'The Book of Clarence,' 'Bob Marley: One Love' and 'The Beautiful Game.' He currently stars as a young police officer in 'Eddington,' the latest film from 'Hereditary' and 'Midsommar' filmmaker Aster.

Taylor Swift tells fans this new movie is a '13/10' must-watch
Taylor Swift is giving an outstanding movie review for boyfriend Travis Kelce the day after he hard launched their two-year relationship on his Instagram main grid. The Eras Tour singer posted a photo of the movie poster for Adam Sandler's golf hero sequel on her Instagram story on July 25 and wrote, "Happy Gilmore 2 had me cackling and cheering the whole movie! An absolute must watch, 13/10, go watch it on @netflix as soon as humanly possible 🍯."
