Bangladeshis linked to Islamic State movement detained under Sosma

KUALA LUMPUR: Several Bangladeshis linked to an Islamic State-inspired militant group have been detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said some of those detained have already been deported.
"Some of them have been detained under Sosma, while others have since been deported.
"There are several others who are still being detained to facilitate further investigations," he told reporters after witnessing the handing over of duties ceremony for the Federal Crime Investigation Department director today.

In a social media post on the Royal Malaysia Police official Facebook page, it was confirmed that this afternoon's visit marked Azam's first official call on Mohd Khalid following his appointment as the country's 15th IGP on June 23. "The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation between both enforcement agencies. "Among the key areas discussed were the implementation of the Joint Action Task Force, operational information sharing, and coordinated investigations," the post read. It added that the discussion was aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts. "The visit reflects a continued commitment to inter-agency collaboration, particularly in combating corruption and ensuring justice is upheld," the post said. Mohd Khalid, who hails from Manong, Perak, was born on April 8, 1965. He holds a Master's Degree in Comparative Law from the International Islamic University Malaysia. His appointment as IGP was consented to by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in accordance with Clauses (4) and (5) of Article 140 of the Federal Constitution, upon the advice of the Prime Minister and the recommendation of the Police Force Commission.

The Selangor fire and rescue department said the boys, aged nine and 12 were found unconscious and were later confirmed dead by health ministry officials. Six personnel from the Shah Alam fire and rescue station were dispatched to the scene after it received an emergency call at 7.19pm. The search and rescue operation took about 30 minutes before both children were located. Their bodies were handed over to the police for further investigation.

PETALING JAYA : A woman was arrested yesterday for abandoning her newborn outside a house in Lahad Datu, leading to the infant's death. Lahad Datu police chief Dzulbaharin Ismail said the 30-year-old suspect was arrested at the Lahad Datu police headquarters. During interrogation, she admitted to giving birth to the baby and placing him outside the house in Kampung Burung. The case is being probed under Section 317 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth with the intent to abandon the baby, which provides for imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine, or both, upon conviction. A member of the public found the baby wrapped in a cloth in front of an unnumbered house at 3.06am last Friday. The baby, who was still alive at the time, was sent to Lahad Datu Hospital for treatment but pronounced dead at 7.02pm the same day as he was premature and underweight.
