Need to apply for OWWA membership or request an e-Card? Filipino workers in the UAE can access these services and more during the OFW Serbisyo Caravan on August 3, at Exhibition Hall 8 of the Dubai World Trade Center. The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will be on site to process membership applications and renewals, issue OFW e-Cards, and accept requests for various assistance programs. OWWA membership costs $25 or its local currency equivalent (around AED 91) and is valid for two years. It grants access to OWWA's full range of benefits, including medical and financial assistance, legal support, repatriation aid, and training or livelihood opportunities for family members. Active members may also receive an official government-issued ID, the OWWA OFW e-Card, which serves as proof of membership and allows easier transactions with OWWA and other government agencies. Workers not covered by other medical programs may apply for the Welfare Assistance Program, which offers financial aid for hospitalization, procedures, or medicine expenses. Legal support, psychosocial counseling, jail or hospital visitations, and repatriation assistance are also among the welfare services offered. These services are part of the Department of Migrant Workers' Bagong Bayani ng Mundo: OFW Serbisyo Caravan, an outreach initiative designed to make government support more accessible to Filipinos living and working abroad in one venue.

UK airports disrupted by air traffic control issue
Britain's air traffic controllers reported a technical issue that disrupted flights at major airports in London and elsewhere in the country on Wednesday, though later said the issue had been resolved. "Our systems are fully operational and air traffic capacity is returning to normal," NATS, the country's air traffic control provider, said in a post on X. "Departures at all airports have resumed and we are working with affected airlines and airports to clear the backlog safely. We apologise to everyone affected by this issue." The outage included Heathrow Airport, Britain's largest airport and Europe's busiest. "Flights at Heathrow have resumed following a technical issue at the NATS Swanwick air traffic control centre. We are advising passengers to check with their airline before travelling," an airport spokesperson said. Gatwick Airport and Edinburgh Airport also said operations were resuming. London City Airport had earlier also reported disruption. It was not clear exactly how long the outage had lasted. In August 2023, flights across Britain were disrupted after the automatic processing of flight plans malfunctioned. Cebu Pacific passenger traffic up 25% on Dubai–Manila route in early 2025
Cebu Pacific reported a strong surge in travel demand on its Dubai–Manila route, carrying 40,000 more passengers in the first half of 2025. In an exclusive interview with Cebu Pacific, the airline said this represents a 25% increase compared to the same period last year. The growth was attributed to strong demand, driven by low fares and expanded seat availability. Data showed that 17% of passengers on the Dubai–Manila route and 5% on the Manila–Dubai route were classified as overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). Most passengers were tourists, with the Dubai–Manila leg recording a higher tourist volume. To meet growing demand, the airline increased seat capacity on the Dubai route by 20% compared to last year. However, there are currently no plans to add more flights. The Gokongwei-led low-cost carrier also announced that it flew a total of 13.9 million passengers across its network in the first half of 2025, up from 11.5 million in the same period last year. Of this total, 10.35 million were Philippine domestic passengers while 3.54 million were international. 'For the first half of 2025, our load factors have increased despite seat growth of more than 20 percent. This reflects the continued strength of air travel demand within our network,' said Xander Lao, president and chief commercial officer of Cebu Pacific. However, Lao said the airline is reducing capacity in the second half of the year due to the off-peak travel season and to manage ongoing engine and supply chain challenges. He noted that capacity growth will remain steady in the third quarter and is expected to rise again in the fourth quarter. Cebu Pacific currently operates a fleet of 99 aircraft and serves 37 Philippine domestic and 26 international destinations across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. The airline is set to receive more aircraft in 2025 to support its growing network, after adding 17 new aircraft last year.
