LSU women's basketball gets No. 3 seed for NCAA Tournament, will play San Diego State
LSU women's basketball earned a No. 3 seed in the 2025 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament bracket, announced Sunday.
The Tigers are below top-seeded UCLA and No. 2-seed NC State in the first Spokane region for March Madness. They'll host No.14-seed San Diego State in a first round game in Baton Rouge on Saturday. Should they win, the second round game would also be in the PMAC.
If head coach Kim Mulkey's team advances throughout its region, it would face the winner of No. 6-seed Florida State and No. 11-seed George Mason. No.-5 seed Ole Miss is the lone SEC team in LSU's region. In the Sweet Sixteen, the Tigers could run into the Wildcats or No. 7-seed Michigan State.
Per Mulkey, leading scorers Flau'Jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow will be active for the duration of the Big Dance. Johnson sat out of the SEC Tournament with a shin injury while Morrow exited the semifinal game against Texas with a lower body injury.

Where LSU football's recruiting class ranks after massive weekend on the trail
LSU football picked up two crucial commitments for its 2026 class to kick off August. Defensive linemen Darryus McKinley and Deuce Geralds chose the Tigers in their announcements over the weekend. Both rank inside the top 50 at their position and were predicted to choose LSU for much of their recruitment. Despite the big weekend, it wasn't enough to move LSU in the recruiting rankings. The additions to LSU's class didn't boost its overall standing. Rivals' Industry Rankings and 247Sports both slot the Tigers' group at No. 8 nationally and No. 5 in the SEC. Of the teams in 247Sports' top 10, LSU had the second-to-last amount of commitments at 18, one ahead of No. 7 Oregon. National No. 1 Georgia has 31 commitments, followed by USC with 32. LSU's group possesses two consensus five-star prospects in defensive end Lamar Brown and wide receiver Tristen Keys. 78% of the class are blue chip recruits, meaning most of the class is made up of four and five-star players. 56% of LSU's class hails from Louisiana. Head coach Brian Kelly made keeping the best in-state players at home a priority this cycle, which paid off in getting eight of the state's top 10 prospects to choose the Tigers.

Why this LSU football transfer could be the Tigers' most important player in 2025
A crown jewel of LSU football's top-rated transfer portal haul was cornerback Mansoor Delane. Delane, who spent the first three years of his career at Virginia Tech, was ranked as the No. 4 corner and No. 52 overall player in the transfer portal according to On3's Industry Rankings. LSU's secondary struggled in 2023 and 2024. In 2023, LSU tried to rebuild the room through the transfer portal. Expectations were high for a handful of talented players, but a combination of injuries and busts led to a disappointing year. In 2024, LSU was less reliant on the portal, opting for homegrown talent. The secondary took a step forward, but the inexperience showed. LSU went looking for transfer portal cornerbacks again this year, landing Delane along with ex-Florida cornerback Ja'Keem Jackson. Delane just might be the most important player on LSU's defense. Zy Alexander was a bright spot of LSU's defense last year. Playing the boundary corner role, he was among the SEC's best defenders. That's a big hole to fill, but LSU trusts Delane in that spot. LSU DC Blake Baker wants to play man coverage. That requires cornerbacks who can hold up vs. the SEC's best pass catchers in man coverage. Delane ranked No. 7 among ACC cornerbacks in 2024 with an allowed completion rate of 47.2%. Offenses were quick to throw at Delane, targeting him 72 times in 2024. He's good at the point of attack with 11 career PBU's and six picks. If Delane is left alone in 2024, he'll be heavily targeted again, but Delane has proven he can hold his own. Delane brings over 1,800 snaps of Power Four experience to LSU's defense. That's just what the Tigers need after losing their most experienced corner. In recent years, LSU has taken risks with its secondary additions. Delane is a safe bet with a high floor. While Delane will see most of his time at corner, LSU won't be afraid to move him around. "Soor is a guy we can put all over the secondary," Baker said, "He could be a corner, safety, nickel, dime." Delane is a floor raiser for this unit. His versatility and experience allow LSU to make the most of its personnel elsewhere. That's needed with a few questions remaining on this unit. Delane was a third-team All-ACC in 2024. Don't be surprised to see the veteran LSU corner competing for an All-SEC spot in 2025. "Mansoor Delane has been very, very, I think impactful at the cornerback position," LSU head coach Brian Kelly said in February.

What is LSU football's record vs. the spread under head coach Brian Kelly?
Brian Kelly is entering year four as LSU football's head coach. In three years, Kelly has elevated LSU from where the program was in Ed Orgeron's final years, but Kelly is yet to lead LSU to a College Football Playoff appearance. LSU won the SEC West in Kelly's first year, but lost to Georgia in the SEC title. Overall, LSU is 29-11 under Kelly. That's a solid record, but let's take a look at how Kelly and LSU have fared vs. the betting spread in recent years. Under Kelly, LSU is 21-19 against the spread for a cover rate of 52.5%. On average, Kelly's LSU teams outperform the spread by 1.8 points. That's a good reflection of LSU's identity over the last three seasons. The floor is high, but LSU is yet to overperform expectations under Kelly. LSU's 2024 win total was 8.5 and LSU finished the regular season with eight wins, earning its ninth win in the bowl game vs. Baylor. LSU thinks it has the talent to take the next step in 2025. The Tigers return quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and sign the sport's top-ranked transfer portal class.
