The Cincinnati Reds have officially parted ways with infielder Jeimer Candelario, designated him for assignment on Monday after reinstating him on the 10-day injured list.

Candelario, 31, joined the Reds on a three-year, $45 million deal signed in December 2023. The switch-hitter was expected to bring a veteran presence and offensive production to Cincinnati's lineup, but ultimately failed to meet expectations.
In 134 games, Candelario batted .207 with a .660 OPS, 22 home runs and 66 RBIs, while contributing a -1.6 bWAR. He struggled with both consistency and health throughout his Reds tenure, missing the final stretch of the 2024 season due to a fractured toe and later landing on the IL in April with a lumbar spine strain.

This season, Candelario appeared in 22 games, slashing .113/.198/.213 with two home runs and a .410 OPS. He recently completed a 15-game rehab stint with Triple-A Louisville, where he hit. 211.

The Reds will be on the hook for the remaining $22.5 million of Candelario's contract. It's the most money the organization has ever spent on a deal. That surpasses the $22 million owed to third baseman Mike Moustakas when he was released in January 2023.
Candelario's time with the Reds ultimately became a costly misfire, leaving them with a difficult financial pill to swallow.

Penn State Ranks Inside Top Five in EA Sports College Football 26, QB Drew Allar Makes Rating Jump

Penn State Ranks Inside Top Five in EA Sports College Football 26, QB Drew Allar Makes Rating Jump originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After making a deep run in the college football playoffs last year, and garnering another top tier roster going into the 2025 season, Penn State has gained the respect of the rating makers on EA Sports College Football 26. Advertisement Last year before the highly anticipated game was released, the Nittany Lions ranked as the 9th best team in the game. They now sit in the four spot, although they have the same rating as they did last season, 88 overall. Nevertheless they saw a rise in their ranking, and are ranked as the second ranked team in the BIG 10, behind Ohio State who is number three on the list. Starting quarterback for Penn State Drew Allar did see a rise in his individual rating. He decided to forgo the NFL draft and come back for his senior season at Penn State. With back to back seasons of great numbers the rating makers seem to think Allar is due for a leap. His first full season as a starter in his sophomore season Allar threw for 2,631 yards. He also had 25 touchdown passes flanked by just two interceptions. Last year he threw for 3,327 yards, 24 TDs, and eight INTs. Advertisement Allar is ranked as the third highest overall quarterback prior to the game's release at a 92 overall. Last year before the game was released Allar was rated an 88 overall. Allar again this year is surrounded by some of college football's weapons. It would not be shocking by the end of the season that people look up and he is the highest rated QB on the game. He is walking into his last season of college ball with things you can not teach. He has top-level arm strength, top-level talent around him, and most importantly experience. He has played at the some of the biggest stages you can in his career, and has faced some of college football's best teams. In 2025 there is not a lot of things that will catch Allar off guard. Blue Jays Announce George Springer News After Leaving Yankees Game

Blue Jays Announce George Springer News After Leaving Yankees Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Blue Jays secured a hard-fought 5-4 win over the New York Yankees on Monday night at Rogers Centre, earning back-to-back victories to gain ground in the AL East. The game remained scoreless through three innings before the Yankees broke through in the fourth, scoring twice to take an early lead. Toronto didn't let that advantage last long, answering with a crucial four-run rally in the sixth to swing the momentum their way. Advertisement Leading 5-3 going into the seventh, the Blue Jays were dealt an unexpected blow when George Springer had to leave the game following a scary collision at third base. He stayed down in visible discomfort before trainers helped him off the field for immediate evaluation. After the final out, the Blue Jays announced via manager John Schneider that Springer took a knee to the throat and was having trouble breathing but added that he was 'OK' after receiving medical attention — a positive sign given the nature of the collision. Advertisement Before exiting, Springer had managed to reach base twice, continuing his steady production near the top of Toronto's order. The veteran outfielder left the game batting .263 with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs this season. Toronto will now hope Springer's injury is nothing more than a short-term scare as the team pushes to stay in the American League postseason race. With the All-Star break approaching, keeping one of their most experienced players healthy will be key to maintaining momentum after a gutsy win.
