Lehigh University women's basketball team ready for matchup against Duke in NCAA Tournament
"We're going to win. And that's the way this team has approached every single game," Lehigh University women's basketball coach Addie Micir said.
Micir isn't surprised this team punched a ticket to the Big Dance. The
Mountain Hawks will head to North Carolina
as the No. 15 seed to face No. 2 seed Duke University on Friday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
"We played Michigan early on and Northwestern early on and we told our team, this is in preparation for the tournament," Micir said.
On Sunday, the Mountain Hawks scored the program's fifth Patriot League Championship, edging out Army, and securing their spot in the NCAA Tournament. The team finished the season 27-6 overall.
"I think our campus is getting behind us a lot. The community. All my professors are saying hi to me, saying congrats, so it's been really fun!" fifth-year senior guard Maddie Albrecht said.
"Playing with these girls every day has been like a dream come true. I think they make it so much fun," senior guard and team captain Colleen McQuillen said.
Team practices started last summer at Grace Hall, so Tuesday night — in the same spot — marked a full circle moment for Micir, McQuillen and her teammates.
"It just goes to show that when everybody buys in and when we all have that hard work ethic — things can happen," McQuillen said.
The team flies out Wednesday afternoon.

CBS Sports: Wisconsin projected to have one of college basketball's top offenses in 2025
With roughly three months remaining until the 2025-26 college basketball regular season, the Wisconsin Badgers received high praise on Friday. In CBS Sports' recent article, titled '101 Days Out: College basketball stars, new faces, contenders, storylines ahead of 2025-26 season', analyst Isaac Trotter outlined several lookahead themes for the 2025-26 slate. Among those themes, Trotter looked at which programs roster the best projected offensive units. Wisconsin, which finished the 2024-25 season with a 27-10 mark and No. 3 seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, was listed as one of the outlet's top 10 projected offensive programs this fall alongside the UConn Huskies, Purdue Boilermakers, Louisville Cardinals, Florida Gators, Kentucky Wildcats, Illinois Fighting Illini, BYU Cougars, Texas Tech Red Raiders and Duke Blue Devils. Here's what Trotter shared regarding the Badgers' offensive outlook this season: "The Badgers have three guards who can play on or off the ball in John Blackwell, Andrew Rohde and Nick Boyd, surrounding two sweet-shooting forwards (Austin Rapp and Nolan Winter). That's a dangerous combination offensively. Losing John Tonje stings, but Blackwell is the total package and has All-America upside as the go-to alpha." Yes, Wisconsin's roster is revamped with all sorts of talent, but projecting the program to recreate its 2024-25 offensive success is a difficult task. Wisconsin boasted KenPom's No. 13 offensive unit this past season, a threshold traditional Badger ensembles rarely reach. Backed by All-American wing John Tonje, who now a member of the NBA's Utah Jazz, UW averaged 80.1 points per game off 45.4% shooting from the field, 34.8% from 3-point range and 82.6% from the charity stripe. Notably, Gard's group finished with at least 80 points in 19 contests -- the most by any Badger bunch in years. UW now welcomes the aforementioned Rhode, Boyd and Rapp into its starting unit, three more-than-capable offensive contributors. In a loaded Big Ten, the starting unit shapes up well against almost any program. That lineup's first exhibition test is slated for Oct. 24 against the Oklahoma Sooners in Milwaukee. Ohio State sharp shooter Mathieu Grujicic goes off for Germany in Eurobasket U18 Tourney
The Ohio State basketball team is hoping to get back to the NCAA Tournament after missing the March Madness the last four seasons, and grab some momentum towards getting the program back among the elite in the league and country. If it's going to do it, it'll have to rely on some key returners, but also some new faces that will all have to mesh and become a team rather than a collection of individuals like what we've seen over the last few seasons. One of those new faces is incoming freshman Mathieu Grujicic from Germany. He's still working on some eligibility issues as an overseas player coming to the United Sates, but once he gets that all ironed out, he should be able to provide a scoring punch at multiple spots on the floor, much like what we've become accustomed to seeing with European players. Before then, Grujicic is playing for his country in the U18 Eurobasket Tournament and looking extremely productive. It's not quite the same level of competition, but there's no denying the abilities and multiple ways he can score. In the opening game for Germany, Grujicic scored 23 points, pulled down eight rebounds, had two assists, and one steal. Germany ultimately lost its opening round game, but it wasn't because of Grujicic. We have some highlights of his body of work in the game thanks to the Hoops HQ "X" account we think you'll enjoy. Grujicic has flown a little under the radar when it comes to incoming freshmen in the Big Ten, but if he can be anywhere near what we've seen in some of his highlights, he could surprise the opposition and provide another scorer to go with what we already know the Buckeyes have with some of those returning guys. We'll see if this skill set translates to the high level of big-time college basketball when things get going this winter.
