Edgbaston win is special as India not only marked their first-ever Test win at Birmingham's Edgbaston but also levelled up the five-match series 1-1. The achievement is noteworthy for another reason as the massive 336 score victory is the highest margin by which India has defeated any team away from home.
Following India's historic win, celebrated Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, ICC Chairman Jay Shah and Former India captain Virat Kohli congratulated young team India.
Hailing, Shubham Gill, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant for their exceptional performance, Sachin Tendulkar wrote, "A 𝘚𝘩𝘶𝘣lime innings from the 𝘮𝘢𝘯 of the moment! Congratulations, @ShubmanGill, on powering India to a brilliant Test victory! @RishabhPant17,@klrahul, and @imjadeja batted very well, especially in the 2nd innings."
The 52-year old legendary cricketer added, 'India's approach was to take England out of this game and force them to play differently, making sure that there would only be 1 winner. What impressed me most about the bowlers was the length they bowled. Needless to say, Akash Deep was the standout bowler, and in my opinion, he bowled the ball of the series to Joe Root. P.S.: Enjoyed the catch taken by Mohammad 'Jonty' Siraj.'
Praising Indian cricket team, Jay Shah said, 'An outstanding Test match showcasing the depth and resilience of Indian cricket.'
Jay Shah acknowledged Akash Deep's 10-wicket haul breakthrough performance and stated, "@ShubmanGill's 269 & 161 were innings of rare quality, while Akashdeep's 10-wicket haul marked a breakthrough performance. Valuable contributions from @imjadeja and @RishabhPant17 added to a well-earned team win. Looking forward to the next contest at Lord's."
Congratulating Shubman Gill and Team India in a post on X, Virat Kohli stated, 'Great victory for India at Edgbaston. Fearless and kept pushing England to the wall. Brilliantly led by Shubhman with the bat and in the field and impactful performances from everyone. Special mention to Siraj and Akash for the way they bowled on this pitch.'
BCCI also commended the electrifying showdown at the Home of Cricket, which marks India's finest overseas Test performances.

Azharuddin lauds Team India's dominance over England
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 7 (ANI): India secured a historic victory at Birmingham, thrashing England by a massive margin of 336 runs to take a 1-1 lead in the Test series. The win marked India's first-ever Test triumph at the iconic Edgbaston, and it came in emphatic fashion despite the absence of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Former India captain and Congress leader Mohammad Azharuddin hailed the team's performance, calling the win a 'significant achievement.' 'The team really played well. England was completely dominated by us,' Azharuddin told ANI. 'After losing the first match, I thought India would be a pushover, but winning the Test without Bumrah is a significant achievement. Bumrah is one of the finest bowlers, and not having him and still winning is outstanding,' he remarked. India's dominance was spearheaded by Indian captain Shubman Gill, who produced a match-winning performance with the bat, scoring 269 in the first innings and following it up with 161 in the second, amassing a staggering 430 runs in the match. His effort earned him the 'Player of the Match' award. 'I congratulate the team and the captain. He (Shubman Gill) really batted well and played excellently in both innings,' Azhar added. Coming to the match, England once again opted to field first. After getting KL Rahul (2) early, an 80-run stand between Yashasvi Jaiswal (87 in 107 balls, with 13 fours) and Karun Nair (31 in 50 balls, with five fours) helped India gain some footing in the match. Skipper Shubman Gill had valuable partnerships of 203 runs with Ravindra Jadeja (89 in 137 balls, with 10 fours and a six) and a 144-run stand against Washington Sundar (42 in 103 balls, with three fours and a six), helping India towards 587, scoring 269 in 387 balls himself, with 30 fours and three sixes. Shoaib Bashir (3/167) was the pick of the bowlers for England, while Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue also managed two each. In England's first innings, India had them on the ropes with 84/5. However, a 303-run stand between Harry Brook (158 in 234 balls, with 17 fours and a six) and wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith (184* in 207 balls, with 21 fours and four sixes) sent India on an endless hunt for leather and answers. However, Siraj (6/70) and Akash Deep (4/88) got something out of the new ball and took down the last five wickets for 20 runs, bundling them down for 407 runs, gaining a 180-run lead. India's response was a swift half-century partnership between Jaiswal (28 in 22 balls, with six fours) and KL Rahul, who also continued his good run with a 10-boundary-filled 55 in 84 balls. A 110-run stand for the fourth wicket between Rishabh Pant (65 in 58 balls, with eight fours and three sixes) and Gill upped the attack, while Gill managed yet another epic 175-run stand with Jadeja, scoring 161 in 162 balls, with 13 fours and eight sixes. Jadeja scored an unbeaten 69* in 118 balls, with five fours and a six. India declared at 427/6, leading by 607 runs and setting England a monstrous 608 runs to win. During the run-chase, England was restricted to 50/3. Jamie Smith (88 in 99, with nine fours and four sixes) was the only glimmer of hope for England as they were skittled out for just 271 runs, losing by 336 runs, thanks to a brilliant spell from Akash Deep (6/99), who ended up taking a ten-fer. IND vs ENG: 'Even if India lose the series ...' - Yograj Singh after India beat England at Edgbaston
India captain Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir (Image by) Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has come out in support of national team head coach Gautam Gambhir , urging critics to back the 43-year-old following India's historic win at Edgbaston. Under Gambhir's guidance, the Shubman Gill-led side secured their first-ever Test victory at the venue, defeating England by 336 runs to level the five-match series 1-1. Prior to the triumph in Birmingham, Gambhir faced scrutiny for India's form in the longest format, particularly after the team's five-wicket loss to England in the series opener at Leeds. However, Yograj stressed that Gambhir should not be criticised, as he continues to contribute positively to Indian cricket . 'Indian players are consistently growing and improving their game. We will support them always. We should not speak about Gautam Gambhir because he is doing well. Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, and Rahul Dravid are giving back to cricket because they have received so much,' Yograj told ANI. Despite the inconsistent run, Yograj urged for continued support for the team. 'Even if our team loses the series, we should not demoralise them. If you lose, you will not be there to explain; if you win, you don't have to explain. We hope that we win the series under the captaincy of Shubman Gill ,' he said. Poll Do you think Gautam Gambhir deserves support after India's victory at Edgbaston? Yes, he has proven himself. Deepika Padukone Skips Birthday Post For Ranveer Singh, Dhurandhar Launch; Fans Defend Her
Last Updated: While fans were thrilled with Ranveer's rugged and intense avatar, a section of the internet was more curious about Deepika Padukone's silence. Actor Ranveer Singh celebrated his 40th birthday on July 6 with the launch of the action-packed first look video of Dhurandhar, his upcoming film with Aditya Dhar. While fans were thrilled with Ranveer's rugged and intense avatar, a section of the internet was more curious about Deepika Padukone's silence. A Reddit thread pointed out that Deepika did not post a birthday wish for Ranveer on social media, nor did she share or react to the Dhurandhar teaser. The user also compared how Ranveer has often publicly shown support for Deepika's achievements. 'Maybe she should appreciate her husband a little," the post read. However, the conversation quickly took a turn as fans jumped to defend the actor-couple, calling the online speculation unnecessary and baseless. One user wrote, 'So much overthinking here. I had a relationship where I was very vocal on social media about my partner but he wasn't. Behind closed doors, he supported me in everything. Does that make me the better partner? No, we were just different." Another fan chimed in, 'People who are reasonably happy don't even post that often about their lives. Not everyone lives on Instagram." Many pointed out that Deepika has a history of sharing birthday or anniversary posts a few days later, and that the couple prioritises spending time together privately. 'She doesn't even post about her own movies on the same day. Their posts usually come later, but they always make sure to spend the day together," a fan noted. Another comment added, 'It's not necessary to perform your relationship online. Their bond clearly goes beyond public validation." Notably, this birthday is extra special for Ranveer—it's his first as a father. Last week, Deepika Padukone made history by becoming the first Indian actor to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ranveer proudly celebrated the moment with an emotional tribute post on Instagram. Meanwhile, Dhurandhar is shaping up to be a massive ensemble project. Directed and produced by Aditya Dhar, and backed by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar, the film stars Ranveer Singh alongside Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal. It is slated to release in theatres on December 12. First Published:
