'The suspect suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the abdomen before fleeing,' he said in a statement. The injured officer was rushed to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM for treatment.
Police later apprehended the 56-year-old local suspect and recovered a 21.5 cm knife along with three plastic packets containing yellowish powder and chunks believed to be drugs.
The suspect will be remanded and investigated under Section 307 (attempted murder) and Section 186 (obstructing public servant) of the Penal Code. Witnesses are urged to contact ASP Mohd Firdaus Sharil or the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline. - Bernama

BANGKOK, Aug 3 — Thailand's Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) has fined a major hospital in the country 1.21 million baht (RM160,000) after confidential patient files were found repurposed as wrappers for snacks. Citing the PDPC, The Bangkok Post reported that the private hospital contracted a small business to dispose of over 1,000 files of confidential documents. But the business didn't, and was later found to have been turned into wrappers for crispy crepes, known locally as khanom Tokyo. The business owner admitted fault and was fined 16,940 baht, the Thai daily reported. The hospital case was among five major data breaches disclosed by the PDPC on Friday. The Bangkok Post also reported PDPC disclosing that a state agency and its contractor were fined a combined 153,120 baht for failing to secure a web app that leaked the personal data of over 200,000 citizens that was later sold on the dark web. Three more cases involved online retailers and distributors, which faced fines between 500,000 and seven million baht.

Policeman injured after man goes on rampage with parang
KUANTAN: A policeman was injured after being attacked with a machete by a man believed to be mentally unstable at a house in Felda Bukit Kuantan yesterday. Corporal Mohd Shafril Izzwan Ismail, 37, suffered injuries to his back, chin and fingers on his left hand. Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the incident occurred around 5.30pm after three policemen from the Panching police station responded to a report of a man going on a rampage with a machete. Upon arrival, they attempted to calm the man. "However, he became aggressive and slashed the victim with the machete," Yahaya said in a statement. A team from the Kuantan police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Division was later deployed and arrested the suspect. Mohd Shafril Izzwan was taken to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA) for treatment. Yahaya said police also seized a machete and two other sharp weapons. Initial checks showed the 37-year-old suspect had no prior criminal record and was unemployed. He has been referred to HTAA's psychiatric ward for mental health evaluation. The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury with a weapon.

Dashcam footage shows bus carrying kindergarten pupils crashing in Serdang (VIDEO)
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — A teacher and three kindergarten children were injured after the bus they were travelling in lost control and crashed into a tree along Jalan Persiaran Universiti 1 in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Selangor. Serdang District Police Chief ACP Muhamad Farid Ahmad said police received a report of the incident at 12.18pm yesterday. 'Initial investigations found that the bus, driven by a 44-year-old man, was on a straight stretch of road when it suddenly lost control and veered left before crashing into a tree,' he said in a statement. Dashboard camera footage of the crash — involving five teachers and 30 children on board — has since gone viral on social media. Muhamad Farid said the three children and the accompanying teacher, who sustained head injuries, received outpatient treatment at Serdang Hospital. He added that the bus driver has been detained and a remand application will be filed tomorrow to facilitate further investigations under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
