UP CM Adityanath directs officials to address growing concerns over food safety, adulteration
The meeting addressed growing concerns over food safety and adulteration in the state. CM Yogi emphasised that the health of the ordinary people is the top priority of the state government, and this responsibility should be fulfilled with complete transparency and commitment.
During the meeting, CM Yogi directed officials to take strict action against food adulteration and fake medicine trade, terming these acts as 'social crimes' that significantly threaten public health.
He instructed that offenders' photos be displayed at major intersections to deter others and raise awareness.
The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, noting the expansion of food and drug laboratories across the state.
Twelve divisions, including Aligarh, Ayodhya, and Varanasi, have established new laboratories, and existing ones in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, and Jhansi have been upgraded. Modern microbiology laboratories have also been established in Lucknow, Meerut, and Varanasi.
CM Yogi emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in the food safety process. The FSDA has implemented a password-protected barcode system to ensure the confidentiality and impartiality of sample analysis. A mobile app, 'Food Safety Connect,' and a toll-free number have been introduced to encourage public participation.
The meeting also discussed investment and job creation in the medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors. Proposals worth Rs 1,470 crore were approved in the last three years, resulting in direct employment for over 3,340 people (ANI).

Currently, the hospital has four radiation machines, which were insufficient to meet the demand, leading to treatment delays. To address this issue, two new linear accelerators have now been installed. The Uttar Pradesh government funded one machine with ₹31.63 crore, while Power Grid Corporation of India Limited contributed Rs 26.42 crore under CSR for the other. The operation of these machines is expected to reduce waiting times and improve the quality of life for cancer patients, significantly enhancing the hospital's cancer management capabilities. The Mahamana Cancer Centre has also become the first hospital in Purvanchal to offer robotic surgery for cancer treatment. With support from the ICICI Foundation, the unit was established with ₹10 crore. This technology enables complex surgeries to be carried out with greater precision, shorter operating time, and minimal risk. The Mantra Robotic Unit, developed under the "Make in India" initiative, will be especially effective in treating cancers of the urinary system, head and neck, and abdomen. FSSAI mandates display of 'Food Safety Connect' app QR code at food premises
New Delhi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has asked all Food Business Operators (FBOs), including restaurants, dhabas, cafes, and eateries, to display their FSSAI License/Registration certificate with the QR code of Food Safety Connect App in customer-visible areas, such as entrances, billing counters, or seating areas, according to the press release. This is a decisive move to safeguard public health and strengthen the food safety ecosystem. This measure is aimed at empowering consumers by providing them with a direct and user-friendly platform for grievance redressal, as per the release. In a step towards strengthening food safety surveillance and consumer empowerment, FSSAI has made the QR code of the Food Safety Connect App available on the front page of the FSSAI Licence and Registration. In a nationwide advisory, all FBOs have been asked to display this in their premises. This is in compliance with Condition of License number 1 of the FSS (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011. According to the official statement, the FBOs have also been asked to feature the QR code or a direct download link for the 'Food Safety Connect' app on their digital assets, including websites and online ordering platforms, wherever applicable. The 'Food Safety Connect' app, a user-friendly platform developed by FSSAI, allows consumers to lodge complaints regarding food safety and hygiene issues, report misleading claims on food products, access basic information about licensed and registered FBOs and stay informed about FSSAI's latest food safety initiatives and alerts. As per the release, complaints lodged through the app are automatically routed to the concerned jurisdictional authority, which ensures prompt action and minimises delays in addressing consumer grievances. Min defends show-cause notice to doc
T'puram: Health minister Veena George said on Friday that a probe team investigating the alleged shortcomings in the urology department of Thiruvananthapuram Govt Medical College Hospital reported that a part of costly equipment in the department was missing. The probe team was set up following urology head Dr Haris Chirackal 's revelation about the lack of medical equipment and emergency facilities at the MCH. Veena stated that a departmental inquiry would be conducted as the missing part of the medical equipment, brought using an MP's fund, might have been stolen. If necessary, a police complaint would be registered after the departmental inquiry. The public revelation by Dr Haris, known for his integrity and commitment to patients, has put the health department and the govt in a tight spot. Ever since Dr Haris tried to expose the poor facilities and their grave impact on patients, the govt's response to Haris remained mercurial. Veena mentioned that the show-cause notice issued to Dr Haris was part of the routine procedure. The notice was served based on the probe team's findings that the senior doctor's open criticism of the department and the system in place amounted to indiscipline and a violation of the code of conduct for govt employees. The health department's additional chief secretary issued the notice asking him to show reasons why action should not be taken against him for criticising the govt in violation of the Kerala Government Servants' Conduct Rules , 1960, causing disgrace to the govt. Meanwhile, Dr Haris told reporters that he would submit the reply to the show-cause notice next week. On the allegation about missing equipment, Dr Haris said nobody should play with the lives of poor patients. He mentioned that the doctors who were in the probe team were known to him for years and they would not put him in a bad light. Will oppose move against doc: Opposition leader Meanwhile, opposition leader V D Satheesan said the UDF would fight the move to initiate action against Dr Haris. "The opposition will strongly react against the unfortunate situation where a doctor is being persecuted for speaking the truth. A doctor who revealed the happenings in the health sector should not be made a scapegoat. Instead of using his revelations positively, there is an attempt to hunt him down. The govt is taking steps to ensure no other doctor speaks out. The govt has twisted the situation to the extent of accusing the doctor of theft," Satheesan said. "In the past two years, the govt owes Rs 1,100cr to the medical services corporation. The payments from previous years are also pending. As a result, no major company is supplying medicines," he said. On the controversy in Kerala University, Satheesan said, "The govt should resolve the issue between the chief minister and the governor. Two of the participants in the RSS's Gyan Sabha were appointed by the Pinarayi govt." On the construction of houses for landslide survivors in Wayanad, Satheesan said Congress and the League will build a hundred houses each. "Why hasn't the govt utilised the Rs 742cr? They are not even paying rent. No assistance, including medical aid, is being provided. Not a single house has been built. I handed over the keys to 14 houses built by a private organization," he said.
