Chappell Roan's breakup song drives unexpected tourism buzz for Saskatchewan, Canada

Grammy winner Chappell Roan's new song has unexpectedly put Saskatchewan in the spotlight, driving increased interest in Canada's sunniest province, its tourism authority told ABC News. In her latest single "The Subway," released last week, Roan playfully suggests "movin' to Saskatchewan" as a cure for heartbreak. Even before the song's official release, Tourism Saskatchewan reported more than 230 social media mentions and nearly 40,000 interactions related to the region. "It's great news for our province," Jonathan Potts, CEO of Tourism Saskatchewan, told ABC News on Monday. "It's a lot of fun to have such a wonderful, popular artist singing our praises and giving us the opportunity to tell the story of Saskatchewan." When asked about the region's reception to Roan, who is a prominent voice in the LGBTQ+ community, Potts emphasized Saskatchewan's welcoming nature. "People are reacting very positively. It's a very open, welcome province. Everybody is welcome here, and everybody belongs here," he told ABC News. Located in Canada's prairie region and bordered by Alberta, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, and the U.S. states of Montana and North Dakota, Saskatchewan boasts an impressive 2,000 to 2,500 hours of annual sunshine, according to the Canada Visa website. Home to just over 1.1 million residents, the province's largest urban centers include Saskatoon, with 300,000 residents, and the capital city Regina, with approximately 240,000 inhabitants. The province, which Potts described as being "almost the size of Texas," is launching a marketing campaign to capitalize on the unexpected attention. "Half the province is covered by forests and lakes. We've got 100,000 lakes in the province, lots of space, lots of great opportunities to find yourself," Potts said. "Whether you're getting over a breakup like maybe the song implies, or whether you're coming for some peace and quiet, or some of the best freshwater fishing in the world, this is the place for you."

Canadian tourist severely injured after shark bite at Florida beach, officials say

A Canadian tourist was seriously injured and hospitalized in south Florida after a shark attack, according to officials. The man, who is in his 40s, was at a beach in Hollywood, Florida, 21 miles north of Miami, when the shark attack occurred July 22 at 2:50 p.m. local time, Chai Kauffman, the Hollywood Fire Rescue and Beach Safety public information officer told USA TODAY. Emergency officials responded to the scene, where they found the man with "severe lacerations to the upper arm area," Kauffman said. They were able to apply a tourniquet and take the victim to a hospital where he underwent surgery. The victim declined to speak to the press, but he is in stable condition, according to Kauffman. Shark sightings: Massive 13-foot great white shark pings off New England coast 'There was a big splash' The victim, who was visiting Florida with friends and family, was in chest-deep water with a friend when a fish jumped over his head. "Right after that, there was a big splash, and he noticed that he was injured," Kauffman, who retold the story on the victim's behalf, said. The victim then walked to the shore, sat on the sand, and nearby beach goers rendered aid to him with towels until EMS arrived. At the hospital, it was confirmed that a shark bite caused his injury, Kauffman said. This is the first shark attack to occur in Hollywood in 2025. 11 shark attacks so far in 2025 As of July 22, 11 shark attack bites have been reported in the U.S., six of which were in Florida, according to Tracking Sharks. In 2024, the Florida Museum of Natural History's International Shark Attack File confirmed that 47 unprovoked shark bites and 24 provoked bites occurred worldwide. It investigated a total of 88 alleged shark attacks. "The total number of unprovoked shark bites worldwide remains extremely low," the museum stated on its website. "Fatalities saw a decrease over the past year." Surfer bitten by shark days before Hollywood Beach attack On July 18, a shark bit Aaron Jenkins, 18, while he was surfing in New Smyrna Beach in Volusia County, Florida, 58 miles northeast of Orlando, Florida, according to USA TODAY's previous reporting. "It just kind of felt like something clamping down really hard, and then it kind of felt hot, because the teeth obviously, you know, started to dig into my skin," Hollis told NBC's Today. The attack is the second to occur at the beach, which is located in the county that is the self-proclaimed "Shark Bite Capital of the World." Morgan Wallen's Latest Chart Feat Proves His Streaming Power

It's now been two months since Morgan Wallen released his latest album, I'm the Problem. In the weeks since that huge full-length arrived, the project has continued to dominate a number of Billboard charts, while the dozens of songs featured on its tracklist have remained massively popular. I'm the Problem continues to sell well, but the lengthy collection is performing especially well on streaming platforms. Millions of plays per week translate to incredible success on some of Billboard's streaming-only tallies, especially the one that's focused entirely on country music. Morgan Wallen Dominates the Country Streaming Songs Chart On the current edition of the Country Streaming Songs chart, Wallen occupies the highest four spaces — all with tracks from I'm the Problem. He has managed this feat before, so while it's not exactly historic, it is impressive that the country singer-songwriter has repeated the accomplishment months after the album's debut. "What I Want" Still at No. 1 After 10 Weeks "What I Want," Wallen's collaboration with Tate McRae, holds at No. 1 yet again. In the 10 weeks that the duet has spent on the Country Streaming Songs chart, it has yet to slip from the highest position. Both "Just in Case" and "I'm the Problem" are steady at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, though both have previously conquered the ranking as well. Wallen manages to own the entire top four, as "I Got Better" swaps spots with "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" by Shaboozey. "I Got Better" returns to its all-time peak of No. 4, while "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" dips to No. 5, which is still a notable placement for a tune that has now spent 67 weeks on the Country Streaming Songs chart. Morgan Wallen Claims 11 Smashes Looking at the entirety of the top 10, Wallen occupies 60% of all available real estate. "I Had Some Help" – one of his collaborations with Post Malone, which fronted the latter act's first country full-length, F-1 Trillion – and Wallen's own "20 Cigarettes" are steady at Nos. 7 and 9, respectively. Wallen currently claims 11 spaces on the 25-rung Country Streaming Songs chart, with a mix of new releases from I'm the Problem as well as older tunes like "Last Night" and "Cowgirls" with Ernest.
