Russia warns US, South Korea, Japan against security alliance targeting North Korea
Speaking with reporters after a meeting with his North Korean counterpart Choe Son Hui, Lavrov accused the US, South Korea and Japan of what he called their military buildups around North Korea.'We warn against exploiting these ties to build alliances directed against anyone, including North Korea and, of course, Russia,' he said, according to Russia's state Tass news agency. The US, South Korea and Japan have been expanding or restoring their trilateral military exercises in response to North Korea's advancing nuclear program. On Friday, the three countries held a joint air drill involving U.S. nuclear-capable bombers near the Korean Peninsula, as their top military officers met in Seoul and urged North Korea to cease all unlawful activities that threaten regional security.North Korea views major US-led military drills as invasion rehearsals. It has long argued that it's forced to develop nuclear weapons to defend itself from US, military threats.Lavrov said Russia understands North Korea's decision to seek nuclear weapons. "The technologies used by North Korea are the result of the work of its own scientists. We respect North Korea's aspirations and understand the reasons why it is pursuing nuclear development,' Lavrov said, according to Tass.During their meeting, Choe reiterated that North Korea 'unconditionally' supports Russia's fight against Ukraine, as Lavrov repeated Russia's gratitude for the contribution that North Korean troops made in efforts to repel a Ukrainian incursion into Russia's Kursk border region.Wonsan city, the meeting venue, is where North Korea recently opened a mammoth beach resort that it says can accommodate nearly 20,000 people. In his comments at the start of his meeting with Choe, Lavrov said that 'I am sure that Russian tourists will be increasingly eager to come here. We will do everything we can to facilitate this, creating conditions for this, including air travel,' according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. The Wonsan-Kalma tourist zone is at the center of Kim's push to boost tourism as a way to improve his country's troubled economy. However, prospects for the tourist complex aren't clear, as North Korea appears unlikely to fully reopen its borders and embrace Western tourists anytime soon.- EndsTune InTrending Reel

EU delaying retaliatory tariffs on US, hopes to reach deal by Aug 1
The EU will suspend retaliatory tariffs on US goods scheduled to take effect Monday in hopes of reaching a trade deal with the Trump administration by the end of the month. "This is now the time for negotiations," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told reporters in Brussels on Sunday, after President Donald Trump sent a letter announcing new tariffs of 30% on goods from the EU and Mexico starting Aug 1. The EU America's biggest trading partner and the world's largest trading bloc had been scheduled to impose "countermeasures" starting Monday at midnight Brussels time (6 pm EDT). The EU negotiates trade deals on behalf of its 27 member countries. Von der Leyen said those countermeasures would be delayed until Aug 1, and that Trump's letter shows "that we have until the first of August" to negotiate. European leaders have urged Trump and von der Leyen to give negotiations more time. "We have always been clear that we prefer a negotiated solution," she said. If they can't reach a deal, she said that "we will continue to prepare countermeasures so we are fully prepared". Standing alongside Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, von der Leyen said the trade tensions with the US show the importance of "diversifying our trade relationships". Trump has said his global tariffs would set the foundation for reviving a US economy that he claims has been ripped off by other nations for decades. Trump in his letter to the European Union said the US trade deficit was a national security threat. US trade partners have faced months of uncertainty and on-and-off threats from Trump to impose tariffs, with deadlines sometimes extended or changed. The tariffs could have ramifications for nearly every aspect of the global economy. The value of EU-US trade in goods and services amounted to 1.7 trillion euros ($2 trillion) in 2024, or an average of 4.6 billion euros a day, according to EU statistics agency Eurostat. Europe's biggest exports to the US were pharmaceuticals, cars, aircraft, chemicals, medical instruments and wine and spirits. Trade ministers from EU countries are scheduled to meet Monday to discuss trade relations with the US, as well as with China.

₹344 crore interest subsidy to be credited to SHGs by July 18
AD The State government has released ₹344.35 crore as interest subsidy under the Vaddi Leni Runalu (VLR) scheme for women's self-help groups (SHGs) as part of the Indira Mahila Shakti (IMS) initiative. Of the total amount released by the Finance department on Friday, ₹299.35 crore has been earmarked for 3,51,599 SHGs in rural areas and ₹44 crore for those in urban areas. The interest subsidy will be directly credited to the accounts of eligible groups by July 18. In addition, Ministers, MLAs and other public representatives will distribute interest subsidy cheques along with accident and loan insurance cheques in their respective constituencies shortly. The interest-free loan scheme (VLR), which was inactive during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government's tenure from 2019 to 2023, is being actively revived by the Congress government. Officials stated that over ₹3,075 crore in interest dues remained pending during the BRS period. Since the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government came to power, ₹862.04 crore has been released towards interest subsidy, including the latest tranche of ₹344 crore. The scheme is being spearheaded by Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka). Under her initiative, the State government bears the interest on loans taken by SHGs from banks, thereby ensuring zero interest burden on the beneficiaries. Minister Seethakka reiterated the government's commitment to the economic empowerment of women in the State. She noted that annual loan disbursements to SHGs are expected to exceed ₹25,000 crore and assured that the government would continue to pay the interest component to alleviate financial stress on women. 'The revival and timely implementation of this scheme reflect the Congress government's commitment to women's welfare,' she added.

Ukraine says suspected Russian FSB assassins killed in Kyiv region
Ukrainian intelligence agents on Sunday killed members of a Russian secret service cell wanted on suspicion of having shot dead a colonel in Ukraine's SBU security service last week, the SBU said. This handout photograph taken and released by Ukrainian State Emergency Service on July 13, 2025, shows rescuers clearing debris to find the body of a female local resident killed at the site of a burnt private house, following a Russian guided aerial bomb attack in Velykomykhaylivka village, Dnipropetrovsk region.(AFP) The intelligence agency said in a statement that the operation had sought the arrest of the agents of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), who it believes were behind the killing of SBU colonel Ivan Voronych in Kyiv on Thursday. "This morning a special operation was conducted, during which the members of the Russian FSB's agent cell started to resist, and therefore they were liquidated," the statement on the Telegram messaging app said. Russian authorities made no immediate public comment on Sunday's operation, which mirrored past assassinations of senior Russian military officials by Ukraine during the three-year-old war - a source of embarrassment for Moscow's vast intelligence agencies. The SBU said two people - a man and a woman - were suspected of having killed Voronych. It did not say how many suspected FSB agents had been killed on Sunday. According to the SBU, the alleged assassins were told by their handler to surveil their target and track his movements. They were eventually given the coordinates of a hiding place where they found a pistol with a suppressor, the SBU said. It said they had tried to "lay low" after Thursday's killing, but were tracked down by the SBU and police. The agency's remit covers security and counterintelligence, but since Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine it has also played a prominent role in special operations against Moscow, including assassinations and sabotage attacks.
