Morocco's Mawazine Festival Draws Record 3.75 Million Attendees
The 20th edition of Morocco's Mawazine–Rhythms of the World Festival attracted more than 3.75 million visitors over nine days, reaffirming its position among the world's largest music festivals, organizers said on Tuesday. Held under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, the festival ran from June 20 to 28 across multiple venues in Rabat and Salé, featuring performances by over 100 artists from Morocco and abroad, the Maroc Cultures Association said in a press release. Headline acts included global stars such as Will Smith, 50 Cent, Kid Cudi, Becky G, aespa, and Wizkid, alongside leading Arab performers like Nancy Ajram, Sherine, and Kadhem Saher. The festival also spotlighted Moroccan talent, drawing large crowds to the Salé stage, which was dedicated entirely to domestic artists and saw unprecedented attendance each night. Performances spanned a wide range of genres and settings, from the large-scale OLM Souissi esplanade to the more intimate Chellah site, known for its contemplative concerts. Audiences also attended indoor shows at the Mohammed V National Theatre and discovered world music acts on the Bouregreg stage, highlighting the festival's commitment to cultural diversity. With over 500 journalists accredited and millions of social media interactions recorded, organizers said the event went beyond entertainment to serve as a platform for dialogue and exchange. CAF Drops New Slogan for Women's AFCON 2024 in Morocco
The Confederation of African Football has unveiled the official slogan for the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. 'Born Winners' is the tagline, and it's all about pride and power. The slogan celebrates the fierce, trailblazing women who are rewriting African football – not just on the pitch, but in every corner of the game from players, coaches, fans, to referees and media. CAF says Born Winners is a statement, a nod to African women's resilience, grit, and the refusal to be sidelined in sport or in society. 'From the streets of Dakar to the stadiums of Johannesburg,' the campaign declares, African women are 'rising, relentlessly and fearlessly,' wrote CAF. The 2024 Women's AFCON, sponsored by TotalEnergies, promises to celebrate not just footballing talent but a movement of legacy, ambition, and change. The slogan hammers home three pillars: Resilience to rise even when the odds say otherwise, ambition to strive to smash ceilings on and off the pitch, and leaving a legacy behind not just by winning more medals but also by changing lives. The 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, running this month from July 5 to 26, marks Morocco's second straight time hosting the Women's AFCON, with the 2026 edition already in the bag. King Mohammed VI is personally invested in uplifting women's football. The ambition is to build on the momentum of 2022, when the Atlas Lionesses reached the final ahead of a massive 50,000-strong crowd at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. Clubs like FUS Rabat and AS FAR are spearheading the shift. FUS Rabat's coach Mehdi El Qaichouri told the BBC that he believes this tournament could ignite a new wave of interest among young Moroccan girls, encouraging them to take football seriously and chase the dream of professional play – or even earning a national team call‑up. AS FAR might still dominate domestically, but competition is heating up. Across the board, more clubs are establishing women's sections, reflecting a larger national strategy that Morocco has put in place to steadily transform its women's game and lay a foundation that could influence football across Africa. 'It is the will of the club, the whole country and His Majesty the King to develop women's football in Morocco,' he added in the BBC interview. 'The project is quite fresh, and the desire is there. That's a big strength.' Tags: afconWAFCON MoroccoWomen's AFCON

Marrakech to Host Nearly 200 Young Delegates for OIC Youth Capital Program
Nearly 200 young people from over 48 countries will participate in the 'Marrakech, Youth Capital of the Islamic World 2025' program, which runs from June 30 to December 5 under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI. The event, organized by Morocco's Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication (Youth Department) in partnership with the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF), was officially launched during a press conference, held Friday evening in Marrakech. Mohamed Ouziane, the Ministry's Director of Cooperation and Program Activities, said the selection of Marrakech reflects international recognition of Morocco's role as a cultural crossroads and its commitment to youth empowerment across the Islamic world. The program includes cultural, artistic, and sports activities, along with forums and training sessions addressing democracy, peace, and security, with a focus on youth innovation and resilience in the post-COVID era. The event will open with an International Youth Forum (June 30–July 3) themed 'Youth of the Islamic World: Post-COVID Challenges.' ICYF President Taha Ayhan said the designation of Marrakech, following a 2024 decision in Istanbul, underscores the city's cultural and civilizational stature, adding that the initiative aims to offer youth a dynamic platform for dialogue, academic exchange, and skills development. Forum Director General Rasul Omarov added that Marrakech will serve as a hub for intercultural dialogue, with the program designed to benefit youth from across the Islamic world, especially Moroccan youth.
