SEOUL, May 28 — Veteran South Korean actor Choi Jung-woo died yesterday morning at the age of 68.
His agency, Bless Entertainment, confirmed his death the same day but did not disclose the cause.
Yonhap News Agency reported that Choi had been battling depression and panic disorder.
Bless Entertainment said, 'Choi Jung-woo passed away on the morning of May 27. Please pray for the deceased's final journey.'
A funeral altar has been set up at Gimpo Woori Hospital.
The funeral will take place at 10am tomorrow, and Choi will be laid to rest at Suwon Yeonhwa Park.
Born in February 1957, Choi began his acting career in 1975 with the stage play The Life of an Actor, according to Korea JoongAng Daily.
His work spanned nearly five decades, with roles in films such as Two Cops (1996) and Project Silence (2023).
Choi was known for portraying dignified characters in dramas including The Tale of Lady Ok (2024), A Place in the Sun (2018), Alice (2020) and Quiz of God (2010).
He also appeared in Doctor Stranger (2014) and Master's Sun (2013), where he played the secretary to So Ji-sub's character.
His final project was the KBS2 drama Who Is She, which aired its last episode in January this year.

SEOUL, July 23 — Hybe America and Paramount Pictures have reportedly announced they will co-produce a K-pop-themed feature film set for theatrical release in early 2027 According to The Korea Herald, the companies said the film will follow a Korean American teenager who auditions for a reality TV competition in hopes of joining a K-pop girl group, going against her family's wishes. Filming is scheduled to begin in mid-September and will take place entirely in South Korea, reportedly making it the first major Hollywood studio project to be shot exclusively in the country. Yoo Ji-young and Eric Nam have reportedly been cast in the lead roles, with Korean American director Benson Lee attached to helm the production from a script by Eileen Shim. 'This film is my love letter to K-pop — a world filled with energy, passion, magic and an incredible community of support,' Lee was quoted as saying. James Shin of Hybe America, Arthur Spector and Joshua Davis of Epic Magazine, and Hybe board member Scooter Braun will reportedly serve as producers, while Paramount Pictures' senior vice president Bryan Oh was said to be overseeing the project. To note, Hybe is the South Korean entertainment company behind popular groups such as BTS, Seventeen, NewJeans and Enhypen.

SEOUL: South Korean celebrities are stepping up with donations to help victims of the country's deadly floods, which have left at least 14 dead and 12 missing since last Wednesday. Popular 'Running Man' host Yu Jae-seok and actor Yim Si-wan each donated 50 million won (RM135,000) to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association last Friday, as reported by the news outlet Korea JoongAng Daily today. "My heart felt heavy with sorrow to see so many people's lives harmed by the heavy rain. I hope the damage doesn't worsen," said Yu. Yim, known for his roles in 'Squid Game 2' and the popular drama 'Misaeng', joined him in donating the same amount. Veteran actress Lee Hye-young, famous for 'Queen of Housewives' and her fashion career, contributed 20 million won. More K-stars followed suit, including singer-actress Kim Se-jeong, star of the rom-com hit 'Business Proposal' and fantasy series 'The Uncanny Counter', who donated 10 million won last Saturday. Winner member Kang Seung-yoon, who has also acted in 'Prison Playbook' and released solo tracks like 'It Rains', contributed 12 million won. Celebrity couple Park Si-eun and Jin Tae-hyun, both recognised for their acting work and charitable efforts, gave 10 million won. "We thank everyone who has helped us with their warm hearts. We will make sure to deliver such kindness to the people who have suffered," the Hope Bridge was quoted as saying in response. News agencies reported that torrential rain had triggered landslides and flooding across the country this week, with Gapyeong – a resort town northeast of Seoul – among the hardest hit. In Gapyeong, two people were killed and two others are missing after a landslide engulfed homes and floodwaters swept away vehicles.
