I Kissed A Girl singer-songwriter Jill Sobule dies in house fire
Extremely sad to hear of the passing of my old friend @jillsobule. A true original. She and I wrote 'Manchild', the closing song on the first EELS album in the South of France one night when EELS wasn't even a thing yet. So long, old friend. You were so much fun to be around.E pic.twitter.com/VljL5wcegE

'I was having so much fun working with her. I lost a client and a friend today. I hope her music, memory, and legacy continue to live on and inspire others.'
During her more than three decades of recording, Sobule released 12 albums that addressed such complex topics as the death penalty, anorexia nervosa, reproduction and LGBTQ+ issues.
Her first album, Things Here Are Different, was released in 1990. Five years later, she received widespread attention for her hit singles, Supermodel, from the movie Clueless, and I Kissed A Girl, which, despite being banned on several southern radio stations, made it into the Billboard Top 20 in the US.
Oh, boy. Our dear friend @jillsobule has died. I'm really to numb to post much of anything. We loved her. She loved us. She was wonderful, brilliant, hilarious. We miss her, so much. pic.twitter.com/VgnBFECuWY

I Kissed A Girl has the same title as Katy Perry's 2008 worldwide hit, but they are two different songs.
She also starred in an autobiographical off-Broadway musical that initially premiered at the Wild Project in New York in 2022 and includes songs and stories about her life.
Sobule was known for taking control of her career by fundraising so she could make her next album. In 2008, after two major record companies dumped her and two indie labels went bankrupt beneath her, she raised tens of thousands of dollars from fans so she could make a new album.
'The old kind of paradigm, where you've always waited for other people to do things, you'd have your manager and your agent,' she said at the time.
'You'd wait for the big record company to give you money to do things and they tell you what to do. This is so great. I want to do everything like this.'
Sobule was scheduled to perform in Denver on Friday night. Instead, there will be an informal gathering hosted by her friend Ron Bostwick from 105.5 The Colorado Sound at the performance space where attendees can 'share a story or song', according to her publicist.

A formal memorial to celebrate her life and legacy will be held later this summer.
Craig Grossman, her booking agent, said: 'No-one made me laugh more. Her spirit and energy shall be greatly missed within the music community and beyond.'
Born in Denver, Colorado, on January 16 1959, she has described herself as a shy child who preferred observing over participating.
Sobule was known for playing dozens of shows a year and has described her live performances as vulnerable experiences. She said she often does not have a set list and wings it.
She has performed with such icons as Neil Young, Billy Bragg and Cyndi Lauper, and also inducted Neil Diamond into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame, according to her website. She also sang a song as herself on an episode of The Simpsons in 2019.
'In a good way, I feel like I'm still a rookie,' she told The Associated Press in 2023 in an interview about her musical. 'There's so much more to do and I haven't done my best yet.'
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Ellen Sobule, along with her nephews and cousins.

Bodycare brand loved by Kim K to pay homage to LGBTQ+ community in London event
A luxury cosmetics brand, cherished by Kim Kardashian and other celebs, will return with its annual library event to provide a platform for trans and non-binary authors One of Kim Kardashian's most-trusted bodycare brands has confirmed it will clear its shelves to honour Pride and its many queer icons. The premium brand Aesop has been snapped in several posts uploaded by the fashion mogul, most notably its Reverence Aromatique hand wash pictured in the businesswoman 's bathroom. This £33 hand wash, and its accompanying products, are firm favourites, not just amongst celebs but all Aesop customers. Now, after launching its Queer Library in 2021 to provide a spotlight for LGBTQIA+ authors, Aesop continues to expand its platform into the initiative's fifth year, this year in London. "The Queer Library affirms literature's ability to broaden minds and embolden individuals, and seeks to provide a platform for underrepresented voices," The Australian cosmetics brand explained, before confirming that "This year, the Library celebrates the liberating possibilities of LGBTQIA+ self-expression, with a particular focus on trans and non-binary voices." Trans refers to transgender, when someone feels their gender is different from, or doesn't sit comfortably with, the sex they were registered at birth, while Non-binary is the term for those whose gender identity falls outside of the traditional man/woman label. Trans artist, Tourmaline is the author of this iteration's hero title, with their work focussing on Marsha P. Johnson's struggle for queer rights. "Marsha's life reminds us that the work of liberation isn't just about protest; it's also about sparkle, about softness, about staying alive and helping others stay alive, too," Tourmaline explained. The brand's Lexington Street store, in London, will offer complimentary books by LGBTQIA+ authors, from Friday (July 4) until Sunday (July 6), to celebrate the written word. Aesop added: "In addition to perusing the shelves, this year visitors will be able to express themselves through an interactive literary card game of sorts, based on the archetypal Aesop fable 'The North Wind and the Sun'—a tale about the value of gentle persuasion over force. "Visitors can draw a selection of cards, each imprinted with a word from the fable—using them as creative prompts, they will have an opportunity to reveal their own take on the story." The library's reading list is curated by independent bookstore and queer institution, Gay's The Word, designed to promote marginalised trans and non-binary voices, along with titles selected by Aesop team members. While some of the reading materials were sourced by the bookstore, many were purchased "at a generous discount from Penguin and a variety of other publishers." The event will coincide with the Pride in London parade, taking place on Saturday. Last year's event saw more than 35,000 people take to the streets to celebrate their identity, accompanied by thumping pop tunes and colourful displays.

Oasis to play first gig in almost 16 years in Cardiff
Oasis to play first gig in almost 16 years in Cardiff Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher will perform together for the first time since their dramatic split in 2009, when they appear at the Welsh capital's Principality Stadium Fans pose for a photograph on St. Mary's Street ahead of the opening night of the Oasis Live '25 Tour Oasis will kickstart their long-awaited worldwide reunion tour in Cardiff on Friday, their first concert in almost 16 years. Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher will perform together for the first time since their dramatic split in 2009, when they appear at the Welsh capital's Principality Stadium. The brothers announced the Oasis Live '25 tour last August, starting with two dates in Cardiff on Friday and Saturday, before heading across the UK and Ireland. Doors are expected to open at 5pm, with Cast and the Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft in support. Former members of the group are expected to make a return, with Andy Bell on bass, and Gem Archer and Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs on guitars. Noel was spotted getting off the train in Cardiff on Tuesday, while a drone display spelling out the band's name could be seen over the stadium on Wednesday. Article continues below Fans across the city have also heard what they believe to be rehearsals in the Principality throughout the week. The reunion announcement came 15 years after Noel quit the Britpop band, saying he "simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer," following a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris. While fans have been pleading for the group to reunite since they disbanded, website issues and controversial dynamic pricing brought outrage, with many failing to secure a spot. After tickets for the UK and Ireland shows went on sale last year, some standard tickets appeared to have jumped from £148 to £355. The controversy prompted the Government and the UK's competition watchdog to pledge to look at the use of dynamic pricing. Following Cardiff, Oasis will visit Manchester's Heaton Park, London's Wembley Stadium, Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium and Dublin's Croke Park throughout July, August and September. The group will then head to Japan, South Korea, South America, Australia and North America. A movie, produced by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, is being made in conjunction with the reunion tour. Formed in Manchester in 1991, the rock band was led by lead guitarist Noel and his brother, lead vocalist Liam, during their 18 years together. Article continues below Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993, rising to fame with the release of their debut chart-topping album Definitely Maybe on August 29 1994. They had hits with songs including Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Live Forever. Dig Out Your Soul, the band's last studio album, was released in 2008, just months before the Paris row.

The 26-year-old singer will take to the fabled Great Oak Stage to headline both Saturday (July 5) and Sunday (July 6) at the popular outdoor event. The Espresso star is set to release her seventh studio album, titled Man's Best Friend, in late August, following the monumental success of her previous 2024 effort, Short 'n' Sweet. The forthcoming album's lead single, Manchild, was initially rumoured to be about ex-boyfriend, and Saltburn actor, Barry Keoghan, though Carpenter has since dismissed this, claiming to have written the song during the pair's relationship. "I wrote Manchild on a random Tuesday with Amy and Jack not too long after finishing Short n' Sweet and it ended up being the best random Tuesday of my life," she posted on Instagram. "Not only was it so fun to write, but this song became something I can look back on that will score the mental montage to the very confusing and fun young adult years of life. It sounds like the song's embodiment of a loving eye roll and it feels like a never-ending road trip in the summer. "Hence why I wanted to give it to you now- so you can stick your head out the car window and scream it all summer long! thank you always and forever for listening and thank you men for testing me!"
