Lucid and Pirelli Just Made the Air Sapphire Even Quicker

The all-electric Lucid Air Sapphire is one of the most ludicrous road cars ever offered for sale. The existing level of performance clearly hasn't satisfied the automaker, however, as Lucid has just rolled out a major upgrade for the car. For the first time, Air Sapphire customers will now have the chance to spec gummy Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires developed specifically for the 1234-horsepower EV.
Despite the four-digit power output, the tri-motor Lucid Air Sapphire models come as standard with a regular set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. We love the PS4S, but it wasn't exactly designed to maximize that sort of transparent grunt. During our 2025 Electric Performance Vehicle of the Year test, the 'mundane' rubber kept the Lucid from posting the fastest lap around the New York Safety Track: despite a 6.3-mph faster top speed on track (147.3 mph), the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT's 1:33.0 lap was 2.56 seconds faster than the Lucid. These new tires should help the American car close the delta.
The tires were specifically developed between Lucid and Pirelli North America, with loads of on-track testing taking place throughout 2024. These included tests at California's Thunderhill Raceway, as well as sessions at Papenburg and the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. Exactly the sort of places you'd want to test high-speed cornering grip.
The new wheel and tire package, which includes a bespoke set of staggered forged aluminum wheel, will run customers $8250. Each tire can also be purchased individually, for $700 for fronts and $750 for rears. Lucid Service Centers will stock the stickier rubber, with deliveries and installation expected to begin April.
We can't wait to get our hands on a Sapphire with the properly sticky rubber. The 'standard' example is already one of the most impressive vehicles I've experienced, and certainly among the quickest. That said, if you don't plan on tracking the super-sedan, you're probably just fine to save some cash and stick with the Michelins.

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) makers XPeng (NYSE:XPEV), ZEEKR Intelligent Technology (NYSE:ZK), Li Auto (NASDAQ:LI), and NIO (NYSE:NIO) stocks dropped on Friday despite individual triumphs like XPeng's record July deliveries and ZEEKR's significant year-over-year growth. ZEEKR, a subsidiary of Geely, announced on Friday that its combined Zeekr and Lynk & Co brands delivered 44,193 vehicles in July 2025, marking a 19.7% increase from the prior year. Specifically, the Zeekr brand contributed 16,977 deliveries, while Lynk & Co accounted for 27,216 units. The company had previously unveiled its Super Hybrid Technologies on July 9, built on its new full-stack SEA-S platform. This innovative system features a 900V high-voltage architecture, tri-silicon carbide-powered e-motors, and a CATL Freevoy Super Hybrid plans to integrate this technology into its forthcoming Zeekr 9X, which boasts a peak output of 1,030kW and an impressive 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in under 3.1 seconds. Li Auto reported 30,731 vehicle deliveries in July 2025, bringing its cumulative deliveries to 1,368,541 units by the end of the month. The company also officially launched the Li i8, a six-seat battery-electric family SUV, on July 29, with customer deliveries anticipated to commence on August 20. Li Auto's expanding footprint includes 535 retail stores across 153 cities, 527 servicing centers, and authorized body and paint shops in 222 cities, complemented by 3,028 supercharging stations with 16,671 charging stalls throughout China. NIO also released its July 2025 delivery figures on Friday, reporting a total of 21,017 vehicles. This total comprised 12,675 vehicles from its premium smart EV brand NIO, 5,976 from its family-oriented ONVO brand, and 2,366 from its small high-end EV brand FIREFLY. Cumulative deliveries for NIO reached 806,731 vehicles by July 31, 2025. The company officially launched the ONVO L90, a smart flagship SUV, on July 31, with user deliveries expected to begin shortly. XPeng, which reported its July 2025 delivery results on Thursday, achieved a new monthly record with 36,717 Smart EV deliveries, marking an astounding 229% year-over-year increase. This represents the ninth consecutive month of deliveries exceeding 30,000 units. As of July 2025, XPeng's cumulative deliveries surpassed 800,000 units, with 233,906 Smart EVs delivered from January to July 2025, a 270% year-over-year surge. The company is actively expanding its global presence, having launched the 2025 XPeng G6 and G9 versions in European markets in mid-July, alongside plans to introduce the XPeng P7+ in Europe. The widespread stock market underperformance across the Chinese EV sector signals mounting investor apprehension, exacerbated by intensifying margin pressure stemming from fierce domestic price wars and considerable geopolitical headwinds. These 10 stocks could mint the next wave of millionaires › Electric vehicle (EV) and technology company Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is one of the largest businesses in the world, with its valuation right around $1 trillion today. And this is even as the stock is down 21% this year as of July 30. Investor sentiment has become increasingly bearish on the business, and its latest earnings numbers didn't do anything to help that. With its recent results looking unimpressive, the stock may again come under pressure in the days and weeks to come. Could now be a good time to add Tesla to your portfolio? Tesla's problems summed up in a single chart Investors have long been excited about Tesla's prospects and CEO Elon Musk's vision. From EVs to robots, the company has been evolving into a much larger business over the years. And if you're a believer in its potential, it's hard not to like Tesla as a long-term investment. But there's also no denying that its growth faces question marks, especially as more competitors emerge in the EV market, particularly from China, where lower prices can squeeze Tesla's margins. The following chart shows that the threat is not just a hypothetical one, either. Tesla's growth rate has fallen drastically in recent years. Not only was quarterly revenue totaling $22.5 billion down by 12% in the company's most recent quarter (which ended in June), but the company's net income also fell by 16% to $1.2 billion. Tesla's results came in short of what analysts were expecting on both the top and bottom lines, leading to a drop in its share price after the earnings report. Big promises and a big valuation Tesla's recent results weren't great, but the carrot for investors is what may lie ahead for the business. These were some of the rosier -- if vague -- projections for the business from Tesla's recent earnings call: Unsupervised full self-driving will be available in "certain geographies" by the end of the year. Autonomous ride-hailing services will be available "in probably half the population of the U.S.," also by the end of this year. The Optimus version three humanoid robot will be in production next year and "it will be the biggest product ever," according to Musk, who's known for bold predictions. Any one of these three claims becoming true could help rally Tesla's stock, which arguably needs a catalyst right now. The problem, however, is that high expectations are also baked into the stock, as it trades at around 160 times its analyst-estimated future earnings. The bar is high for Tesla, and if it falls short of its promises, that could lead to a further decline for the stock, especially given that its recent results haven't exactly been stellar. Should you buy Tesla stock today? Tesla has been an exciting growth stock to own for years, and it has generated fantastic returns for investors. Although it hasn't been doing great recently, the stock is still up over 200% in five years. If Musk's vision for his company comes true, investing in Tesla stock could end up being really smart. However, with the stock trading at such a high premium, I'd hold off on investing in it. When you're paying such a high price, you're leaving yourself with little to no margin of safety should things not go as planned. Tesla's a good stock to put on a watch list, but I wouldn't rush out to buy it right now.
