The complainant, Pooja P, stated that her husband, who works abroad, returned home on July 19. The couple lives in a joint family, and due to the poor health of her husband's grandmother, Ratna, a woman named Geetha from Karwar was hired as a daytime caregiver.
On July 20, Pooja, along with her husband, children, and other relatives, visited the Polali temple. Before leaving, she wore a gold bangle from a jewellery box stored inside a safe locker in a bedroom cupboard.
The next day, she returned the bangle to the box, placed it back in the locker, locked it, and kept the key under some papers inside the cupboard shelf. The cupboard door was shut but not locked.
Later that evening, when she went to retrieve the key, it was missing. Despite an extensive search, the key could not be located, and she assumed it was misplaced. On July 22, her husband, mother-in-law, children, and another family member visited the Mangaluru One centre at Lalbagh and returned in the evening.

Hyderabad: The Justice PC Ghose Commission of inquiry into the Kaleshwaram project has held former chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, former irrigation minister T Harish Rao , former Finance minister E Rajender and a bunch of senior officials, including the then Irrigation special Chief Secretary SK Joshi, responsible for the colossal waste of public money in the construction of the Kaleshwaram project. The Commission has observed in its report that Rao was directly and indirectly responsible for the irregularities in the project, right from its planning and construction to operation and maintenance of the barrages which are part of the project, sources said. The Commission pointed fingers also at former irrigation minister T Harish Rao, a nephew of KCR. A committee of experts had advised against taking up the Kaleshwaram project, but the BRS regime had 'intentionally suppressed' the report, they said. The sources said the officials had prepared a 60-page summary of the report, which runs into 665 pages. The summary mentioned the names of KCR 32 times, Harish Rao 19 times and former minister Eatala Rajender five times. Rajender is now a BJP Lok Sabha member. The report found Rajender, who was finance minister during the BRS regime, to be negligent, the sources said. Briefing the press after the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister, apparently enthused by the damning evidence against former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and ex-ministers, said that since the report was prepared by an independent judicial commission, the question of resorting to politics of vengeance did not arise. Going by the findings of the Commission highlighted in the report, the government will initiate action against those who were involved in the 'embezzlement of public money in the construction of the Kaleshwaram project.' Amplifying the key findings, Revanth Reddy said that former chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao redesigned the Pranahita -Chevella project and constructed Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages which were damaged within three months of the construction of the Kaleshwaram project. Although an expert committee had submitted a report against Kaleshwaram, KCR chose to go ahead with the construction of the barrages 'without any planning'. The Chief Minister recounted that, ahead of the Assembly elections, the Congress had promised that, if voted to power, the government would order a probe into the collapse of the Kaleshwaram project. Accordingly, the state government constituted a judicial commission to investigate the misuse of Rs one lakh crore in the construction of the project. Revanth Reddy said that the cabinet reviewed the 665-page Ghose Commission report as well as a summary of the report submitted after vetting by a three-member official committee.

Vijayawada: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Monday laid a trap and nabbed a junior assistant working in irrigation drainage department for accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a contractor for doing a favour. The contractor did the irrigation drainage works in Gudivada region and was waiting for the release of Rs 2 lakh related to the contract works. But the junior assistant Garikapati Srinivasa Rao demanded Rs 30,000 bribe and was caught red handed while accepting it at the Executive Engineer office in Gudivada on Monday. According to ACB, Srinivasa Rao took the money and was later arrested by the ACB officials. Contractor Raja had taken up the contract works and executed and later submitted the bills for the release of money. Junior assistant Srinivasa Rao said he has to get details from Vijayawada office and demanded Rs 30,000 from the contractor. Contractor Turaka Raja met the ACB officials in Vijayawada and informed them about Srinivasa Rao. On Monday the ACB officials laid the trap and caught Srinivasa Rao and produced him in the ACB special court in Vijayawada. The ACB has urged the people to lodge complaints with the ACB office and call the toll-free number 94404 40057 on corruption in the government departments. The case dates back to 2022, when the doctor received a call from a man who identified himself as Karan Singh and claimed he had strong connections in television production circles. However, suspicion arose when his name did not feature on the final list of contestants for that season. Upon confronting Karan, Dr Gupta was told that the entry would happen through a 'backdoor process." When this too did not materialise over time, the doctor began demanding a refund. The doctor approached the police and registered a complaint, as Karan avoided the doctor's calls and eventually switched off his phone. A First Information Report (FIR) against the doctor was registered under Section 420 of the IPC. In another case, a 34-year-old man, who allegedly cheated people on the pretext of arranging a Mudra loan after collecting money from them and had been absconding since 2021, was apprehended. The accused, who was involved in multiple fraud cases in Hyderabad, by falsely promising assistance in securing Mudra loan, collected money and documents from victims and absconded, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Commissioner's Task Force) YVS Sudheendra said in a release. The accused became acquainted with the Mudra loan process after watching videos on a social media platform related to government financial schemes, police said.
