Tornado warning issued for part of Yellowhead County in Alberta

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a tornado warning for an area in Yellowhead County on Tuesday night.
The weather agency said it was also issuing an Alberta Emergency Alert for the area near Minnow and Wolf Lakes and Elk River at 6:45 p.m.
ECCC said its meteorologists were 'tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado.'

'Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible,' the weather agency said. 'This thunderstorm is located 45 km southeast of Edson and is moving towards the east at 30 km/h.
'This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes.'

Tornado watch issued for parts of northwest Ontario
Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for July 4, 2025. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) have issued a tornado watch for parts of northwestern Ontario. ECCC said Friday afternoon at 3:53 p.m. that they are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Locations impacted include Atikokan, Dovetail Lake, Steep Rock Lake, Finlayson Lake and Marmion Lake. Wind gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour and rainfall rates reaching nearly 50 mm per hour are possible. ECCC adds a second area of severe thunderstorms, also located near the Minnesota border, are moving east at 65 km/h. Areas impacted include Dumbbell Lake, Namakan Lake and Sand Point Lake. Dryden, Fort Frances and Sioux Narrows are also under tornado watches and severe thunderstorm warnings. ECCC said the situation is dangerous and potentially life-threatening. If threatening weather approaches, or a funnel cloud is spotted, you're asked to seek shelter immediately.

The weekend is set to start with partly cloudy skies on Saturday with a daytime high of 27 degrees Celsius, slightly above the seasonal daytime high of 25 degrees Celsius, though humidity won't be a factor. Things are expected to change on Sunday when a low-pressure system is slated to swoop in, bringing approximately 6 millimetres of rain in the afternoon. Although the daytime high is expected to reach 32 degrees Celsius, it may feel like 40 with the humidex. The start of the week should also bring precipitation with a risk of scattered thunderstorms. Montreal could see up to 10 millimetres of rain, with a daytime high of 27 degrees Celsius. Temperatures should stay steady at 27 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Montreal is expected to get a break from the rain, with sun and cloud in the forecast for both days.

With Friday's mix of atmospheric conditions, it would almost be easier to share which Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) weather alerts are not in effect. High heat and humidity continue in southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario, while wildfire smoke plagues northern Manitoba. Neighbouring regions, including Kenora, are under a severe thunderstorm watch. A heat warning remains in effect for Winnipeg, southeastern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario for one last day on Friday. A cold front passing Friday night will bring relief and cooler temperatures in the low to mid 20s by Saturday. Until then, thunderstorms can't be ruled out late Friday afternoon or early evening in Winnipeg and much of the south. Meanwhile, northeastern Manitoba is under an unusual severe thunderstorm watch Friday. ECCC said thunderstorms that developed there this morning will move through the region into northern Ontario by Friday evening. Most central and northern regions are also under an air quality warning or special air quality statement Friday. The weather agency said smoke moving through the region should improve Friday night.
