Sanya Malhotra Celebrates National Award For Kathal: 'I'm Deeply Honoured'
Sanya Malhotra celebrated her Netflix satire Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery winning the National Film Award for Best Hindi Film. The National Award winners were announced on August 1.
Sanya Malhotra is over the moon as her Netflix satire Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery clinched the National Film Award for Best Hindi Film (Feature). Reacting to the honour, Sanya expressed heartfelt gratitude to the team behind the film and shared how special the project has been for her.
'I'm deeply honoured that Kathal has been awarded the National Award for Best Hindi Film," Sanya said in a statement, adding, 'This story has been very special to me, and I'm grateful to Guneet Monga and Achin Jain, and the entire team for trusting me with such a unique role."
Directed by Yashowardhan Mishra, Kathal is a satirical social commentary cleverly disguised as a quirky mystery. The film blends humour with a sharp take on bureaucracy, gender dynamics, and media spectacle — all wrapped around the case of two missing jackfruits. Sanya's performance as a determined young cop investigating the bizarre case earned praise for its sincerity and nuance.
'The film reflects important social realities with satire and heart, and I'm so glad it resonated with audiences. This recognition encourages me to continue choosing meaningful cinema," she added, thanking the jury and all those who supported the film.
Actor Anantvijay Joshi, who was a part of Kathal, spoke to News18 Showsha after Kathal won big at National Awards. 'I just received a call from somebody to congratulate me and that is how I got to know. It seems quite right for a film like Kathal, which is so cleverly written and made with so much love and good intent. It is a great satire. I think it feels very, very gratifying," the actor shared.
Anantvijay also recalled the time he was working on the movie and shared that he never expected that the film will win the National Award one day. 'We were only enjoying what was written and how it was written while we were shooting for it. I don't think we ever had a conversation about awards because all of us on sets considered that Kathal was not particularly very award-driven. But we were very sure that people would really appreciate this film," he stated.
Apart from Kathal, 2023 was a significant year for Sanya, who also appeared in Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan and Meghna Gulzar's Sam Bahadur, both of which went on to win National Awards.

Kareena Kapoor made a ‘big mistake' when she let go of Priyanka Chopra's role in Aitraaz, reveals producer: ‘She chose the heroine's part, wanted to glide easily'
In the early 2000s, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra were known for their off-screen rivalry. Their tense dynamic wasn't just tabloid fodder; it played out publicly, most memorably through sharp jabs exchanged on Koffee with Karan. But the root of this reported friction might be traced back to 2003, during the making of Aitraaz, an Abbas-Mustan courtroom thriller, also starring Akshay Kumar. While Aitraaz was a commercial success, it was Priyanka's morally complex character that drew significant attention. Her portrayal was seen as bold, nuanced, and unlike anything Bollywood had shown at the time for a female lead. Now, veteran filmmaker and producer Suneel Darshan has revealed that Kareena Kapoor was originally offered the role of Sonia, a part that ultimately helped define Priyanka Chopra's early career. 'There are times when actors miscalculate,' Darshan told Bollywood Bubble. 'At that time, a negative role was still viewed as something like a vamp. And the fact that Priyanka was cast alongside Amrish Puri as his wife, so it felt more like a Shashikala-type role. You know, like the ones Shashikala or Bindu used to play in older films. But with time, narratives change, and so do perspectives. And I thought to myself, my God, Bebo (Kareena) made such a big mistake.' According to Darshan, Kareena was offered the film first and she could have easily grabbed Sonia's part. 'But Bebo is Bebo. She always wanted to glide through everything easily. She lost out on that role because she chose not to do it. She picked the heroine's part opposite the hero. She could have taken Priyanka's role too, but she didn't.' Also Read | Priyanka Chopra didn't want to be a part of Aitraaz: 'She was hesitant that she will get stereotyped as a vamp' Darshan praised Priyanka for taking a risk when many actresses at the time were hesitant to portray grey characters. 'Priyanka was at a stage where she was on the rise. She was the go-getter. Whatever she wanted, she went after and got it. And that role justified something that wasn't considered normal, it made you believe in it.' What followed was reportedly an unspoken rift between Kareena and Priyanka, with each taking subtle (and not-so-subtle) digs at the other over the years. On various seasons of Koffee with Karan, both stars made pointed remarks. At one point, Kareena even questioned Priyanka's National Award win for Fashion, prompting widespread speculation about tension between the two. Interestingly, the two actresses shared a couch on Koffee with Karan in 2019 during its sixth season, where they laughed off their past remarks and displayed a surprisingly warm, refreshed dynamic. In a 2023 interview with Mid-Day, Kareena seemed to put those rumours to rest. She denied ever having any 'catfights' with Priyanka but admitted to saying 'foolish things' when she was younger. 'I'm a more relaxed person now,' she said, reflecting on how marriage, motherhood, and a successful career have grounded her. When asked directly if there was ever tension with Priyanka, Kareena responded, 'Not at all! Rubbish. I was like, 'What is going on?''

Amid dating rumours with Dhanush, Mrunal Thakur says she believes in ‘buri nazar': ‘You should control how much you are telling the world'
Mrunal Thakur has been celebrating the release of her latest film Son of Sardaar 2, also starring Ajay Devgn, and in a recent interview, Mrunal talked about her aspirations and how she navigates the film industry while keeping a positive state of mind. She also spoke about 'evil eye' and said that she believes in the curse of the evil eye. In a chat with Instant Bollywood, Mrunal shared that she is looking forward to many developments in her career, but does not like discussing them openly. She said, 'There are a lot of things I still need to do with my career, a lot of boxes I haven't checked. But I will talk about those things once I actually do them, because I don't want to jinx it by talking about them. I believe the whole nazar thing, 'boht nazar lagti hai' (evil eye jinxes things).' Mrunal expanded on this as she talked about the feeling of apprehension she gets when talking about her future goals. She gave her two cents on how one should deal with being in the public eye, especially when she is surrounded by those who might not always be well-wishers. 'Boundaries. One should think before speaking about oneself. You should control how much you are telling the world. Sometimes we end up saying the things we want to do or are doing currently, and we jinx it ourselves. I have a very different personality in that sense, because someone might talk about the number of releases they have next year. I don't want to talk about it; everyone knows what's coming and what's not. I don't like to constantly think and talk about the things that are happening in my life,' she said and added, 'People ask me about my work and how I deal with the pressure, but I don't feel it. I am a very positive person, so I don't have to necessarily work on it. I don't even feel tense or pressured before a release.' Here is a breakdown of what these newly revealed titles may signify, based on cast updates, production details, and long-running themes from the show, as per a report by What's On 7 is expected to pick up directly after the Season 6 finale cliffhanger, where Jack stepped into the twins' bedroom, leaving viewers in suspense. The showrunner has already confirmed continuity in the emotional tone, and the titles released appear to support the list are the following episode names:Each offers clues into not just standalone plot points, but the broader thematic canvas of Season such as Always Anywhere Forever and La Luna De Miel appear to anchor the season in significant relationship milestones. The former could signal a vow renewal or fresh beginning for Mel and Jack, especially if they are finally ready to settle into their farm life and revisit plans for expanding their family. The title reads like a promise, possibly a reaffirmation of love amidst past La Luna De Miel confirms a long-anticipated romantic retreat. With scenes filmed in Mexico, including Tulum and Yucatán, fans can expect scenic visuals alongside intimate character development. The possibility of new revelations, either joyous or disruptive, during the honeymoon phase cannot be ruled out, as per the What's On Netflix introduction of Clay, a former rodeo rider portrayed by Cody Kearsley, seems to tie in closely with Back in the Saddle. This could be a dual reference, highlighting Clay's backstory while also marking Doc's potential return to clinical practice following his license storyline remains emotionally charged, especially with rising tensions between his clinic and Grace Valley. The title David and Goliath may correspond to this medical feud, placing Doc in an underdog position as he fights for his legacy and his River's younger couples appear to take center stage with titles like Beautiful Child. This likely refers to the upcoming birth of Lizzie and Denny's baby, a moment expected to carry emotional weight. Although Beautiful Child is also the name of a Fleetwood Mac track, its lyrical themes seem unlikely to align precisely with the episode's story, suggesting instead a symbolic or sentimental use of the phraseIt Takes a Village fits squarely into the Virgin River formula: a feel-good, community-centered chapter where the townsfolk rally behind one another. In the case of No Regrets, the arc could center around Brie and her long-standing love triangle involving Brady and Mike. The time may have come for Brie to commit, or perhaps to choose a path that doesn't involve either man. The title suggests closure and personal the other hand, Pipe Dreams may reflect ambition and risk-taking. Whether it involves a new business venture, a creative endeavor, or a bold romantic move, the episode is likely to spotlight a character who breaks out of the show's traditional cycles and pursues something audacious. This aligns with Netflix's recent announcement confirming Season 8, meaning storylines introduced in Season 7 could serve as foundations for the title The Afterglow carries the weight of aftermath, possibly emotional or narrative fallout from Season 6's final moments. It might represent the beginning of Season 7, showcasing the immediate consequences of Jack's discovery and how it reshapes the dynamics between him, Mel, and the Match, meanwhile, is open to multiple interpretations. Whether it alludes to matchmaking efforts from the town's elders, the spark of new romance, or a confrontation between characters, possibly involving the returning Calvin (now played by Josh Blacker), this episode could bring a sense of heightened tension or pivotal Season 7 does not yet have an official premiere date, fans remain hopeful for a 2025 release.
