and comes with over 30 blacked-out elements like the grille, exhaust tips, tow hooks, scuff plates, and even parts underneath the car. It will be available with an option to choose between 20- or 22-inch gloss black wheels with black brake calipers, that lend it a stealthier look.
Moving inside, the cabin continues the blackout theme with Ebony Semi-Aniline Leather paired with Kvadrat fabric: a first for any Defender. The seats carry new perforation patterns, and the dashboard can be optioned with chopped carbon fibre. Standard features include a new 13.1-inch touchscreen, smoked taillamps, and revised LED signature graphics.
Under the hood, the OCTA Black continues with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo mild-hybrid V8 that delivers 635 hp and 750 Nm, capable of sprinting from 0–100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds. It also retains features like the advanced 6D Dynamics suspension and OCTA Mode for high-speed off-roading.

After the 90-degree flyover, now 'snake-like' bridge under scrutiny in Bhopal

Weeks after Bhopal's Aishbagh bridge drew sharp criticism for its sharp 90-degree turn, another bridge has come under scrutiny for its 'snake-like' structure and poorly placed dividers. Two accidents were reported within just eight hours on the Subhash Nagar Railway Over Bridge (ROB), raising serious concerns about its design and at a cost of Rs 40 crore and operational for two years, the Subhash Nagar ROB was envisioned as a key link between Maida Mill and Prabhat Petrol Pump, and an important route for commuters heading to Bhopal Railway Station. While it has eased traffic congestion in the area, recent incidents have exposed potentially dangerous flaws in its both the accidents, vehicles lost control while negotiating the bridge's sharp turns. In one case, a car collided with a road divider and flipped in the air. In another, a school van sustained damage after hitting the same divider. While no lives have been lost in these incidents so far, the risk remains high. These recurring accidents highlight the urgent need for the government and civic authorities to reassess the design and implement corrective measures before a serious tragedy FLAWS IN THE BRIDGE Subhash Nagar Railway Over Bridge Serpentine structure: The bridge has a snake-like layout, requiring drivers to make four sharp turns—right, left, right, and then left—within just a few seconds. This rapid sequence of turns leaves little room for error or timely positioned divider: One of the most dangerous elements is the divider placed immediately after a turn while descending toward Maida Mill. Its sudden appearance has led to accidents, especially for drivers travelling at high speed or at divider height: The divider's height is insufficient, making it difficult to spot, particularly under low-light signal issues: Vehicles approaching from the Board Office towards Prabhat Petrol Pump must cross traffic from Jinsi Chowk. However, the traffic signal at this junction is unreliable, frequently malfunctioning and increasing the likelihood of engineer and bridge expert Prakhar Pagaria expressed serious concern over the design, stating that serpentine bridges are inherently risky. 'Such shapes should be avoided unless space constraints leave no alternative,' he said.'Even then, they require careful oversight. If angles and elements like dividers are not meticulously planned, the result can be dangerous—especially for night-time drivers.' He added that having four quick turns without adequate response time is particularly unsafe.- Ends

Six private firms compete for NMC's ‘pay-and-park' project

Nashik: Six private agencies have shown interest in Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC)'s 'pay-and-park' project, which is likely to be implemented at 28 locations across the city by Aug-end. The project involves 22 on-street and six off-street parking spaces. NMC's public works department hosted a pre-bid meeting for the project, attracting private firm representatives from Mumbai, Pune and other cities. During the meeting, civic officials provided detailed project information and addressed queries from interested firms. Civic officials said the private firms requested a reduction in the royalty amount that the appointed agency must pay to the civic body. "We have quoted a royalty amount of Rs 35 lakh per month for the agency operating and managing the 28 on-street and off-street parking spaces. We have, however, clarified that there would be no reduction in the royalty amount," an NMC official said. The civic body has issued a request for proposal (RFP) to deploy a private agency to manage, maintain and operate the 28 parking spaces in the city. The deadline for submitting proposals is July 10. Nearly eight years after the failure of the Smart City Corporation, NMC decided to implement pay-and-park across many city locations. In the first phase, pay-and-park will commence at 28 sites, with the number of parking spaces to be increased in subsequent phases. NMC has finalised the parking charges for on-street and off-street pay-and-park spaces. For two-wheelers, charges are Rs 10 for first two hours, Rs 20 for two to six hours, Rs 40 for six to twelve hours and Rs 60 for 12-24 hours. For three-wheelers and four-wheelers, charges are Rs 20 for the first two hours, Rs 40 for two to six hours, Rs 60 for six to twelve hours, and Rs 100 for 12-24 hours.

‘Education for all' is our mantra, says CM at laptop fund disbursal event

Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav on Friday said education is the axis of holistic human development, and "education for all" is his govt's development mantra. "Not only academics, but meritorious students are also being connected to new technologies, and modern education systems to lay the foundation for a bright future," he said at a state-level event held in Bhopal for transfer of funds to meritorious Class 12 students to buy laptops. "By providing laptops to talented students, we are building a better future for the state," Yadav said. During the event, he transferred over Rs 235 cr to 94,234 meritorious students of Class 12 who scored 75% or more in the 2024–25 academic sessions for laptop purchase. Each eligible student received Rs 25,000 directly into their bank account through direct benefit transfer. Yadav announced that from next year onwards, high-quality laptops worth Rs 25,000 will be given instead of cash. He also distributed laptops to 15 outstanding students on stage and encouraged them to continue hardwork in studies by clicking selfies with them.
