The Madhya Pradesh government is getting tough on stubble burning as the Rabi harvest begins. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that from May 1, farmers caught burning stubble will be denied MSP procurement benefits and the ₹6,000 annual payout under the state's Kisan Kalyan Yojana While the central government's PM-Kisan payouts will continue, the state has seen an alarming rise in stubble burning-23,000 incidents this season compared to 7,000 last year. The government plans awareness drives promoting eco-friendly alternatives like happy seeders and super seeders Officials say the tough stand is necessary to control rising pollution levels and prevent long-term soil degradation. Madhya Pradesh, being a major wheat belt, cannot afford to let unchecked stubble burning impact environmental health or food security. Authorities are also ramping up penalties and incentives to nudge farmers towards sustainable farming practices.

PM-SHRI funding in AP up by 120%
Guntur: The Central government has significantly increased its financial commitment to Andhra Pradesh under the PM-SHRI (PM Schools for Rising India) scheme, nearly doubling the allocation compared to the previous YSRCP regime. Andhra Pradesh had received a sanctioned outlay of Rs 354.85 crore in 2023–24 under the YSRCP-led government, of which Rs 212.91 crore was the Central share. However, during the financial year 2024-25 under the NDA-led government, the sanctioned outlay has jumped to Rs 782.39 crore, with Rs 469.43 crore being the Centre's contribution. This marks a near 120% increase in allocation, highlighting the renewed focus on strengthening public school infrastructure in the state. A total of 935 schools in Andhra Pradesh have been selected under the PM-SHRI scheme so far. This includes 37 schools in Eluru district and 28 in Konaseema district. The officials say this expansion aims to transform existing schools into model institutions with modern infrastructure, smart classrooms, and outcome-oriented learning.

Oppn corners govt over patta promise to tribals; Let's sit & sort it out, says CM
Bhopal: Participating in the debate over a call attention motion moved by Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Umang Singhar seeking to draw attention of the state govt towards large-scale rejection of applications for patta for land under Tribal Rights Act, 2006, by tribals, CM Mohan Yadav said that he was prepared to sit with the Opposition MLAs to sort out the issue. Raising the issue, Singhar said that more than 2.3 lakh applications from tribals for patta on the land of their habitation has been rejected in MP and the state stands second in the entire country in rejecting the application for patta by the tribals. He cited the example of Nepanagar where application for patta from more than 3,000 tribals has been rejected and the forest staff was stopping them from farming on the land they have been in possession for years. Minister of state for forest, Dileep Ahirwal in his written reply to the call attention motion, said that under the Act, 2.3 lakh tribals, who were in possession of forest land before 2005, have been given ownership right over 3.7 lakh hectare forest land and it was not true that the forest department was indiscriminately rejecting the claim of tribals over land of their habitation. CM Yadav said that the state government proposes to make the data of tribals in possession of forest land before 2005 available online. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, play this game for 1 minute Navy Quest Undo Senior Congress MLA Ajay Singh said that the state govt should carry out a survey again to verify claims of 68,000 claims, which have been rejected.
