But it is understood that Villa have rejected an approach for skipper McGinn.
The Scotland star, 30, is integral to Unai Emery's plans for the new campaign.
McGinn has two years left on his deal but Villa have no plans to cash in on their longest-serving player.
Everton gaffer Moyes lost Abdoulaye Doucoure at the end of the season and is hunting for a replacement.
But Emery still views McGinn as an influential figure as he closes in on 300 club appearances.
He moved to the Midlands from Hibs in 2018 for around £3.5million and has helped Villa go from the Championship to Champions League.
The Scotland talisman previously revealed that the Villa boss is hard on him — but Emery insists it's just to ensure his standards remain high.
Speaking in December, he said: 'John is a very good man and a very good player.
'But we are always speaking about how football moves so quickly and the level we want to keep is high.
'John is following our message but knows he started this season in worse form than last year. He is just a very important player for us.'

Luis Enrique dodges Kylian Mbappe talk as PSG prepare for hostile reunion in Real Madrid showdown
Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique refused to be drawn into comparisons between his Champions League -winning squad and the team that previously featured Kylian Mbappe as his side prepare for a frosty reunion with their former talisman. Mbappe left PSG on a free transfer last summer following a drawn-out contract saga, joining Real Madrid in a move that infuriated Parisians. While, on the surface, losing arguably the world's best striker appeared a hammer blow, his departure allowed Enrique to truly transform PSG into the powerhouse we know today, prioritising the collective over individuality to create the side that at long last ended the club's wait for a Champions League title. Mbappe could be in for a hostile reception from the travelling PSG fans when he takes to the MetLife Stadium on Wednesday - but Enrique is not concerned with comparing the club's fortunes with and without Mbappe. "This is a question about the past and I'm not here to talk about the past, I'm only thinking about the future," Luis Enrique said at his pre-match press conference. Mbappe, who spent the group stage sidelined after being hospitalised with gastroenteritis, was back on the scoresheet as Real edged past Borussia Dortmund. The Spanish coach did acknowledge that facing his former player adds spice to the encounter, saying that "playing against the most successful team in the world" is "definitely extra motivation". "Playing against Real Madrid will be a special match, no doubt about it,' he added. 'At the same time, we like playing these kinds of games because it means you've done your job well and you're in a position to play in a semi-final.' He also refused to compare his star right-back Achraf Hakimi with Real Madrid's marquee arrival Trent Alexander-Arnold, who akin to Mbappe the Galacticos poached on a free after he ran down his contract at boyhood club Liverpool. 'I'm not a fan to analyse or compare players because here in this competition, all of them are top quality,' he added. 'But at the same time, I have to say that Hakimi is without a doubt one of the best right-backs that I have not only trained but watched in my career.' Enrique was the only manager to partake in press duties on Tuesday evening, with Xabi Alonso 's press conference being cancelled due to Real Madrid's late arrival.

Luis Enrique dodges Mbappe talk ahead of Real Madrid showdown
EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey, July 8 (Reuters) - Paris St Germain coach Luis Enrique refused to be drawn into comparisons between his Champions League-winning squad and the team that previously featured Kylian Mbappe, ahead of Wednesday's Club World Cup semi-final clash with his former star's new club Real Madrid. "This is a question about the past and I'm not here to talk about the past, I'm only thinking about the future," Luis Enrique told a press conference when asked if his PSG are a better team now without Mbappe than when they had the France captain in their squad before his free transfer to Real Madrid last year. The Spanish coach did acknowledge that facing his former player adds spice to the encounter, saying that "playing against the most successful team in the world" is "definitely extra motivation". PSG will again have to contend with brutal conditions in New Jersey, with an afternoon kickoff in scorching heat after temperatures in Tuesday's semi-final between Chelsea and Fluminense soared past 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit) with over 54% humidity, prompting a National Weather Service warning. "We're getting used to it. Playing in these conditions, because that's been the norm during the World Cup. It'll be business as usual," Luis Enrique said. "It's not good for the spectacle because it's difficult to play in that position. It's the same for both teams." Despite the challenging circumstances, the former Barcelona boss is relishing the high-stakes encounter. "Playing against Real Madrid will be a special match, no doubt about it. At the same time, we like playing these kinds of games because it means you've done your job well and you're in a position to play in a semi-final," he said. The winner will face Chelsea in Sunday's final, after the Premier League side secured their place with a 2-0 victory over Fluminense on Tuesday, courtesy of newcomer Joao Pedro's brace.

Marcus Rashford reports back early for Man United training despite being one of five players told to stay away to secure Old Trafford exits
Marcus Rashford reported back to training at Carrington on Monday and Tuesday despite being one of five players given extended leave to secure moves away from Manchester United. The club directive would also have kept Rashford away from Ruben Amorim, with whom he had fallen out before moving to Aston Villa on loan for the second half of last season. The England international did not participate in team training with the rest of the Red Devils squad and instead completed an individual session. Along with Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia, he still has access to the medical and rehab facilities at Carrington if needed. Rashford, whose No 10 jersey has been handed to new signing Matheus Cunha, was due back later this month when Amorim and the Red Devils squad had jetted off to the US on pre-season tour. By giving the group an approximate return date and time to secure a move, while allowing them access to the medical department – both at the training ground and remotely – United have been careful not to be in breach of contract. Last week's news came after Amorim returned to Carrington on Friday and it emerged that Rashford was expecting to play a full part in pre-season and give 100 per cent while he remains a United player. The 27-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa after Amorim criticised his attitude in training, has been linked with Barcelona and Bayern Munich. United are closing in on the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford but will likely require sales to fund further forays into the market. The Red Devils' pre-season schedule begins with a clash against Leeds in Stockholm on July 19 before their travel Stateside.
