Kelsea Ballerini addresses Lainey Wilson after ACM Awards sweep and social media buzz

Express Tribune12-05-2025
Kelsea Ballerini has publicly addressed the results of the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards, where she went home without a win despite three nominations.
The country star took to Instagram on May 10 to clarify her stance following speculation that she was upset about Lainey Wilson's sweep of major categories.
'Just stopping in to say I respect the hell out of laineywilson. As an artist, entertainer, and friend,' Ballerini posted to her Instagram Stories. 'A deserving queen.'
At the ACM Awards held on May 8, Ballerini was nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, and Music Event of the Year (alongside Noah Kahan). All three categories went to other artists, with Wilson taking home two of them.
Following the ceremony, Ballerini shared a photo referencing the iconic 'And none for Gretchen Wieners' scene from Mean Girls, prompting mixed reactions online. Her boyfriend, actor Chase Stokes, also posted on Instagram calling her his 'Entertainer of the Year.'
While some social media users criticized the posts as unprofessional, others defended Ballerini, citing her consistent talent and multiple award show snubs.
My fingers slamming the like button on every tweet about Kelsea ballerini getting snubbed AGAIN. Girl had 2 back to back wildly successful albums (both with deluxe versions) & an arena tour. pic.twitter.com/75atACmjsl — just a girl💚🦋 (@courtlynn3695) May 9, 2025

Despite more than a dozen ACM nominations since 2015, she has not won since her early career breakthrough.
Still, Ballerini emphasized that acknowledging loss and celebrating others can go hand in hand. 'Two things can be true,' she said in a past statement, highlighting the complexity of awards show emotions.

Taylor Swift endorses Happy Gilmore 2 after Travis Kelce's hilarious cameo

Taylor Swift is raving about Happy Gilmore 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 golf comedy classic, starring Adam Sandler. The film, which dropped on Netflix July 25, features a surprise appearance by Swift's boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce — and the pop icon is calling it a must-watch. In an Instagram Story posted, Swift shared the film's poster and wrote, 'Happy Gilmore 2 had me cackling and cheering the whole movie! An absolute must-watch, 13/10, go watch it on @netflix as soon as humanly possible 🍯.' Kelce's cameo has quickly become a fan favorite. He plays a restaurant manager who bullies his subordinate Oscar, played by Bad Bunny. One of the most talked-about scenes is a surreal fantasy sequence where Bad Bunny smothers honey on a half-naked Kelce, tied to a post, before he's left to be devoured by a bear. Kelce also appears in another chaotic scene where he chest-bumps golfers Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa through a table. The movie endorsement came just one day after Kelce hard-launched their two-year relationship with a romantic Instagram photo dump, showing moments from their offseason together — including ice skating, boating, and karaoke nights. Although director Adam Sandler said they didn't want to 'bother Taylor' with a cameo offer, he called her a global gift: 'She's done a lot for our planet, so we love her.' With her 13/10 review, Swift has once again proven her influence — and her support for Kelce's big-screen debut.

Is Taylor Swift engaged? Travis Kelce's lock screen photo sends fans into a frenzy

Taylor Swift has once again sent the internet into a frenzy—this time over a possible engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce. Fans are speculating that the pop superstar might be engaged after a photo from Kelce's recent Instagram post hinted at a major relationship milestone. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end shared a carousel of pictures from the couple's offseason adventures—marking the first time Swift has appeared on his Instagram feed. While the series of images highlighted their close bond, one blurry snap caught eagle-eyed fans' attention. In the phone wallpaper image, Taylor appears to hold up her hand, possibly revealing a ring on her finger. Fans quickly began analyzing the photo, with comments like, "Is she pointing at her hand like she is… engaged?" and "I did zoom into his lockscreen." Adding fuel to the rumors, Swifties also noticed that Taylor's own phone lock screen appears to show a photo of the couple from their romantic Lake Como trip in May 2024. The couple, together for nearly two years, have reportedly received blessings from Swift's parents. Last month, speculation reached new heights when the pair was addressed as 'Taylor and Travis Kelce' on a wedding invitation—raising questions about whether they had already tied the knot. However, sources told TMZ that Taylor and Travis are not engaged, clarifying that Taylor is actually wearing Travis' three Super Bowl rings—not an engagement ring. While neither Swift nor Kelce has confirmed the engagement, fans remain convinced that the couple's love story is reaching the next level. Whether it's just a shared lock screen or something more, the Swiftie detective work is in full swing.

Internet mourns Hulk Hogan's death

The death of wrestling legend Hulk Hogan has stirred a wave of tributes from across the entertainment and sports worlds. Remembered for his magnetic charisma both inside the ring and beyond it, Hogan's influence spanned more than four decades and left an indelible mark on professional wrestling. Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 71 after suffering cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida, as reported by BBC. Emergency services were called to the scene, but he was later pronounced dead at Morton Plant Hospital. Hogan's impact on wrestling was unmatched — his fame in the 1980s helped bring pro wrestling into the mainstream. At the height of his popularity, he became a household name, branching into film, music, reality television, and even launching a pasta-themed restaurant. In later years, however, Hogan's reputation took a hit after a leaked tape revealed him using racial slurs. WWE distanced itself from him for several years before ultimately reinstating him, though his final appearances were met with mixed reactions from fans. Despite the controversy, Hogan remained a towering figure in wrestling culture until his death. On Thursday, fellow wrestlers, Hollywood stars and fans remembered him as a pioneer who helped shape the face of modern sports entertainment. Tributes pour in US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social, calling the late wrestler a "great friend" and recalling his turn on the stage at last year's RNC. "We lost a great friend today, the 'Hulkster.' Hulk Hogan was MAGA all the way. Strong, tough, smart, but with the biggest heart," Trump posted. He continued: "He gave an absolutely electric speech at the Republican National Convention, that was one of the highlights of the entire week. He entertained fans from all over the World, and the cultural impact he had was massive. To his wife, Sky, and family, we give our warmest best wishes and love. Hulk Hogan will be greatly missed!" The White House's official X account also posted a tribute to Hogan with a picture of President Trump and his statement. The caption stated, "Hulk Hogan will be greatly missed. Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone, 78, shared a photo of himself with Hogan on Instagram, taken from their time filming Rocky III in 1982. Hogan appeared in the film as wrestler Thunderlips in one of his first major screen roles. Stallone wrote: "I had the pleasure of meeting this brilliant personality and showman when he was 26 years old. "He was absolutely wonderful and his amazing skill made Rocky III incredibly special. My heart breaks [when] I think that he's gone." Actor Brooke Shields, 59, also remembered Hogan with a photo of the two playfully wrestling on the set of Suddenly Susan, a sitcom that aired in the late 90s. "Rest easy, Hulk," she wrote. "This moment and his entire guest episode on Suddenly Susan was a true highlight. Sending love to all of his loved ones today." Wrestlers in mourning Fellow wrestlers also took to social media to share their tributes. The Undertaker, 60, said on X: "The wrestling world has lost a true legend. His contributions to our business are immeasurable, and for that, I am appreciative. Thank you, Hulk Hogan." Former WWE owner Vince McMahon took to X and sent a heartfelt message about Hogan's death. He wrote, "the world lost a treasure today. Hulk Hogan was the greatest WWE Superstar of ALL TIME, someone who was loved and admired around the world. He was a trailblazer, the first performer who transitioned from being a wrestling star into a global phenomenon. His grit and unbridled thirst for success were unparalleled — and made him the consummate performer. He gave everything he had to the audience whom he appreciated, respected and loved. He leaves us with one of his favorite expressions." He finished with the iconic line, "Train, take your vitamins and say your prayers. Today, we pray for him." Ric Flair, one of his biggest wrestling rivals, took to X and praised Hogan for being a great friend away from the ring. He wrote, "I am absolutely shocked to hear about the passing of my close friend Hulk Hogan! Hulk has been by my side since we started in the wrestling business. An incredible athlete, talent, friend and father! Our friendship has meant the world to me. He was always there for me even when I didn't ask for him to be. He was one of the first to visit me when I was in the hospital with a 2 per cent chance of living and he prayed by my bedside." He remembered Hulk for his generosity, stating "Hulk also lent me money when Reid was sick. Hulkster, no one will ever compare to you! Rest in peace my friend." Even John Cena took to his Instagram and posted a throwback picture of him in the ring.
