Auburn's Hugh Freeze talks progression of wide receivers Perry Thompson and Sam Turner

Auburn's Hugh Freeze talks progression of wide receivers Perry Thompson and Sam Turner Freeze says that Thompson is working to earn valuable reps at wide receiver this spring.
Early signs of spring practice point to Auburn's wide receiver group being the most talented and competitive room on offense.
In his final press conference before Saturday's A-Day at Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze discussed many aspects of the Tigers' spring practice period, which included an in-depth discussion about wide receivers. Freeze says that the room is "talented and deep" and is ready for several other pieces, including Derrick and Eric Smith, to join the team this summer to cut down on the wear and tear that players such as Cam Coleman and Malcolm Simmons are experiencing this spring.
On an individual level, Freeze spoke highly of sophomore Perry Thompson and his progression through the spring. Thompson, Auburn's No. 3 signee of the 2024 recruiting cycle and a prominent member of the "Freeze Four" saw limited reps last season. In nine games, Thompson caught five of 12 targeted passes for 126 yards and a touchdown. A bulk of his stats came in Auburn's season-opening win over Alabama A&M, where he caught two passes for 82 yards and a score. Since that game, he caught just three passes for 44 yards.
Freeze says that Thompson has taken a giant step forward in development this spring, and he is excited for Thompson' could turn into's potential.
'Perry is starting to mature, as is Malcolm (Simmons) Some of these younger guys that didn't really understand how you have to practice and prepare. He still has his moments of inconsistency, but it's much better, and he's flashing some. He flashed today in the one-on-ones and had an incredible catch in one of the team periods. I'm excited about what he can become but still have to stay on, and let's learn how to compete every single play. It can't be just two out of three. We've got to do every single one the right way. The thing about that room is they demand it, because competitiveness in there is high, and you're going to earn your right to get those reps."
Auburn signed three high school receivers last cycle, with only one joining the team this spring. Sam Turner, a three-star receiver from Atlanta, Georgia, has made a quick splash in the short time he has been on campus. Freeze has already drawn up the role that Turner could have on the team this season.
'(Turner's) going to be dynamic, and he's added great depth to us on the outside and able to give some breaks to Cam (Coleman) and Perry (Thompson) and Horatio (Fields) for sure. For a freshman, he's sharp, he picks it up."
Auburn finished No. 4 in the SEC last season in pass efficiency with a 151.53 rating, and No. 6 in passing yards with 263.9 per game, and will surely see an uptick this season. Auburn has overhauled its quarterback room with Oklahoma transfer Jackson Arnold and talented true freshman Deuce Knight. Several key receivers return, including Cam Coleman and Malcolm Simmons, while transfers Eric Singleton and Horatio Fields join the team to add experience and depth.
Fans will get the first opportunity to see Auburn's revamped passing game on Saturday during the A-Day game, featuring a new "practice-style" format. A-Day is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The event will not be televised or streamed this year, however, admission for fans will be free.

Auburn's Ike Irish selected No. 19 overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2025 MLB draft

Irish is the latest Tiger to be taken in the first round of the MLB draft, and the first since Tanner Burns was taken No. 36 overall in 2020. It was long suspected that Auburn iron man Ike Irish would be selected in the first round of the 2025 MLB draft. Sunday, those suspicions were realized as the Baltimore Orioles selected Irish with the No. 19 overall pick in Sunday's draft, which is taking place at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, site of the 2025 MLB All-Star Game. Irish's ability to attack opposing pitching, as well as his versatility in the field, made him attractive to Major League Baseball franchises. In three season's at Auburn, Irish hit 39 home runs and sent 167 runs home. He set many personal records last season as a junior by hitting 19 home runs, logging 78 hits, and hitting .364. He played a variety of positions during his time at Auburn, including right field, left field, first base, and catcher. He will likely be used as a catcher in the Orioles' organization should he elect to turn pro. Irish becomes the 10th first-round selection that Auburn has produced. By being selected No. 19 overall, Irish joins elite company with the likes of Gregg Olson, Frank Thomas, Gabe Gross, Casey Mize, and Tanner Burns. He becomes the first Tiger taken in the first round since Burns was selected by the Cleveland Guardians at No. 36 overall in 2020, and is the 10th Tiger to be selected by the Baltimore Orioles, the first since Chase Allsup was taken by the O's in the fourth round of last year's draft. The MLB draft continues into Monday. Rounds 1-3 will take place Sunday while rounds 4-20 will occur Monday. William Mouw shoots 9-under 61 to win the ISCO Championship for his first PGA Tour title

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — William Mouw rallied to win the ISCO Championship on Sunday for his first PGA Tour title, shooting a 9-under 61 and waiting nearly two hours to see if his 10-under 270 total would hold up. Mouw won when third-round leader Paul Peterson — who was playing the 10th hole at Hurstbourne Country Club when Mouw finished — missed a 55-foot birdie try from the front fringe on the par-4 18th. Mouw won in his 20th start on the PGA Tour. The 24-year-old former Pepperdine player received a two-year exemption and a PGA Championship spot next year, but not a spot in the Masters. Peterson shot a 69 to finish a stroke back in the opposite-field PGA Tour event also sanctioned by the European tour. Mouw birdied the first three holes and added two more on Nos. 7-8 in a front-nine 30. He birdied Nos. 10, 11, 13 and 17 on the back nine in the lowest score in his brief PGA Tour career. The 37-year-old Peterson, also making his 20th career PGA Tour start, made a 24-foot birdie putt on 14 and a 30-footer on 16, then parred the final two holes. Manuel Elvira was third at 7 under at 66, and Vince Whaley (70) and David Skinns (70) followed at 6 under. Auburn junior Jackson Koivun had a 68 to tie for sixth at 5 under. He tied for 11th last week in the John Deere Classic. Chan Kim, five strokes ahead after opening rounds of 61 and 68, had weekend rounds of 75 and 73 to tie for 14th at 3 under. Peterson and Kim were among the 12 players who finished the suspended third round Sunday morning, ___ AP golf:
