Trump says he will soon send letter informing countries of tariff rates
WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump said on Friday that he will send out a letter over the next week and a half informing countries of the United States (US) tariff rates they will be required to pay, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
"At a certain point, over the next week and a half or so, or maybe before, we're going to send out a letter; we talked to many of the countries, and we're just going to tell them what they have to pay to do business in the United States," Trump told reporters at the White House.
The US is in the process of making trade deals with several others, including India, Trump said.
When asked about the July 9 trade deadline, the president said it was not a fixed date.
"We can do whatever we want. We could extend it. We could make it shorter. I'd like to make it shorter. I'd like to just send letters out to everybody: 'Congratulations. You're paying 25 per cent'," he added.
The US has collected US$88 billion from tariffs, he reiterated.

Next GE is a question of life and death for UMNO in Pahang: Paya Besar MP
PAYA Besar UMNO Division Chief Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah has described the upcoming GE16 as a life-and-death battle for UMNO, crucial to ensuring the future of the next generations in Pahang. Speaking at the 30th Paya Besar UMNO Division Meeting at Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi Mara Kuantan on Saturday, he said GE16 is not just about electing representatives but about shaping the state's future direction. 'For us, GE16 is a life-and-death battlefield. It's not just about electing representatives but about determining the future of our children and grandchildren in Pahang,' he said. The Paya Besar MP emphasized that UMNO cannot afford to be negligent, as it would significantly affect the future of the party and the state. 'If we are careless or negligent, we will not only lose power but also the right to determine the fate of our people, our state, and the party we love. 'We protect UMNO today, and UMNO will protect our children tomorrow. If we defend our power today, tomorrow the people will continue to enjoy a just and caring government,' he added. Despite past electoral setbacks, Mohd Shahar said UMNO remains hopeful, noting that in the previous election, out of 24 District Voting Centres (PDM) in the division, UMNO won only six at the state assembly level and 13 at the parliamentary level. He said the division is implementing a 3R strategy—retain, reclaim, and reduce—to strengthen its grassroots, recapture lost strongholds, and ensure victory in GE16. —June 29, 2025 Main image: South China Morning Post

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who made the announcement at an event here, said the initiatives would benefit Felda settlers and residents across the state. "The first initiative is assistance for the Felda Settlers' Development and Safety Committees (JKKR), where each JKKR will receive RM10,000. "We will also be handing RM5,000 to each Felda Youth Council (MBFL) as well as RM5,000 to each Women's Movement Association (GPW) statewide," he said in his speech during the Johor Felda Settlers Day celebration here on Sunday (June 29). He stated that the Segamat and Johor Baru Felda regions would also receive the same amount for their JKKR, MBFL, and GPW groups, respectively. "We will also be allocating RM5,000 to each surau and mosque in Felda settlements across the state," he said, adding that the first eight initiatives were worth about RM1.85mil. Onn Hafiz said the state government had also agreed to give a special haj quota to 10 Felda settlers. "We will also be giving interest-free education funds to 50 children of Felda settlers. Labuan-Kota Kinabalu express ferry draws strong response after three-year hiatus
LABUAN: The Labuan-Kota Kinabalu express ferry service has seen a surge in passengers since resuming operations on May 27, following a three-year suspension. To date, more than 3,700 commuters have used the direct sea route, with each trip operating at full capacity of over 100 passengers. The revival of the service, linking the duty-free island to Sabah's capital, has been hailed by federal authorities as a much-needed boost to regional connectivity. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa described the ferry's return as a key development for Labuan's socio-economic growth. "This express ferry is not just a transportation service - it is a vital connector for regional economic, social and development networks," she said. Speaking to reporters at the Labuan International Ferry Terminal after welcoming passengers from Kota Kinabalu, Dr Zaliha said the service facilitates community mobility, daily activities, and the transport of goods within local supply chains. She expressed satisfaction with the strong public reception, noting that the ferry is popular among a wide range of travellers commuting between the two cities. "This route offers a more convenient and time-saving alternative to the roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry via Menumbok, especially for passengers without vehicles," she said. While the Ro-Ro ferry is generally preferred for travel to nearby districts such as Menumbok, Kuala Penyu, or Beaufort, the express ferry offers a direct and faster option to Kota Kinabalu. Dr Zaliha also expressed hope that the operator would continue to enhance the service, including shortening travel time, to meet the growing demand. -Bernama
