Andhra liquor scam: Former CM Jagan denounces arrest of Rajampet MP

Jagan alleged that the TDP-led NDA government had revived corrupt practices like belt shops and permit rooms — previously shut down by YSRCP to curb illegal sales — while weakening regulatory enforcement and reintroducing backdoor transactions. This, he said, reversed the transparent government shop system set up in 2019. 'Naidu is misusing State agencies, and a section of the media to settle political scores. Ironically, Naidu himself is currently out on bail in multiple corruption cases, including a liquor scam that occurred during his previous tenure 2014-19. During that time, private liquor syndicates thrived, and corruption was institutionalised,' he criticised. Jagan asserted that after coming to power, Naidu stalled investigations into those serious corruption cases against him, and his close associates. To divert attention and escape accountability, Naidu had conspired to fabricate a politically motivated liquor case targeting YSRCP leaders, he alleged. Adding to the chorus, YSRCP State coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, speaking outside the ACB court in Vijayawada on Sunday, labelled the arrests as harassment. He challenged Naidu to seek a Central probe into liquor scams during both their tenures, asserting that the YSRCP regime regulated sales through State-run shops, cutting beer orders by 40% and liquor by 50%, thus curbing distillery profits and bribery. Sajjala dismissed the scam's fluctuating figures—ranging from Rs 50,000 crore to Rs 3,000 crore—as proof of its falsity, accusing the government and 'yellow media' of concocting a scandal with deleted data. Both Jagan and Sajjala vowed legal action, and to fight back, drawing on grassroots support, amid escalating political tension in the State. Other YSRCP leaders also denounced the arrest of Mithun Reddy.

Lorry owners felicitate Andhra Min Dola for reduction of Green Tax

ONGOLE: Members of the Singarayakonda Lorry Owners Association on Sunday felicitated Social Welfare Minister Dr Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy at his camp office in Turpu Naidupalem, expressing gratitude for the reduction of Green Tax on transport vehicles. Dola said the TDP-led NDA coalition government, under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, is committed to the welfare of all sectors, including transport. He said the previous government had burdened transporters with taxes ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000, pushing the sector into a financial crisis, which was worsened by rising fuel prices. Recalling Naidu's promise to reduce the Green Tax during his opposition tenure, Dola said the coalition government is implementing promises in a phased manner. He listed fulfilled pledges such as enhanced NTR Bharosa pensions, reopening of Anna Canteens, free gas cylinders, and Talli Ki Vandanam. Dola said free bus travel for women will start on August 15, and the Anna Data Sukhibhava scheme will follow soon. AP Lorry Owners Association Vice President and Singarayakonda Association President Chigurupati Seshagiri, Secretary Patel, Subba Rao, and others attended the event.

Andhra liquor scam: Mithun will come clean as it's a false case, says YSRCP leader Peddireddy

TIRUPATI: Senior YSRCP leader and former minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy strongly condemned the arrest of his son and Rajampet MP Mithun Reddy in the liquor scam case. In a video released on Sunday, Peddireddy termed the arrest of Mithun Reddy vindictive politics. He accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh of making attempts to destabilise the opposition YSRCP in the State. 'The TDP-led NDA government has resorted to revenge politics against Mithun Reddy. In the past, he was falsely accused of assaulting an airport manager, and arrested. But that case did not stand the legal scrutiny. This case will also meet the same fate,' he said. Mithun Reddy, a three-time MP, was falsely implicated in the liquor case because of his good relations with YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, he said. 'We have done nothing wrong. Mithun Reddy will emerge clean,' Peddireddy asserted.
