‘Still finding ways to mess with me': Piastri laughs off Alpine jab after tense Austrian GP
The Australian made a comment after having to go off track to avoid Renault-owned Alpine's Argentine driver Franco Colapinto.
'Alpine still managed to find a way to (expletive) me over all these years later, huh?' he told race engineer Tom Stallard in an exchange not broadcast on television at the time.
Piastri told Reuters at a McLaren fan event in London's Trafalgar Square on Wednesday that his swearing had just been spur of the moment.
'It was just kind of a frustrating coincidence. My qualifying got hampered by an Alpine. I got impeded in the race by both the Alpines. So, it was kind of just a build-up of a few things,' he said. 'And it was more out of frustration.
'I still have a lot of friends at Alpine. A lot of people that I respect a lot.
'It was just kind of an ironic coincidence that the things that hampered me a bit in the weekend were all with Alpine. But, yeah – more just me trying to express my humour and frustration in the race.'
Piastri joined McLaren after being named by Alpine as their driver for 2023, only for the Australian to very publicly reject the seat with a statement that has become part of Formula One lore.
Then Alpine team boss Otmar Szafnauer questioned the driver's integrity and threatened legal action, but McLaren won easily when the matter went to the contract recognition board.
Alpine are now last in the championship and are still going through turmoil, while McLaren won the constructors' title last year and are runaway favourites again. — AFP

Snoop Dogg becomes co-owner of Championship club Swansea

The 53-year-old American star joins former Real Madrid stalwart and Croatia World Cup finalist Luka Modric in the club's ownership structure. Snoop Dogg made a surprise appearance on the club's social media channels last week modelling its new home jersey for the 2025-26 season and the club announced yesterday that he has become an investor. His involvement comes after American businessmen Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen took over the club last November. Swansea will hope that Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, can use his 100 million-plus social media followers to boost the club's profile as they seek to return to the Premier League for the first time since they were relegated in 2018. Swansea's owners have said they want to generate greater revenue, which would allow them to invest more in new players under the profit and sustainability rules in British football. The 53-year-old rapper said on the club's website: 'My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City. 'The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me. This is a proud, working class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me. 'I'm proud to be part of Swansea City.' Swansea announced in April that Modric, who this week joined AC Milan at the age of 39 after leaving Real Madrid, had acquired a stake in the club. Usyk crushes Dubois in five rounds to unify heavyweight titles at Wembley
LONDON, July 20 — Oleksandr Usyk cemented his status as the outstanding heavyweight of his generation with an emphatic fifth-round knockout of Daniel Dubois in their undisputed world title bout at London's Wembley Stadium on Saturday. Victory saw Ukraine's Usyk extend his unbeaten professional record to 24 fights as the WBA, WBC and WBO champion added his British opponent's IBF belt to his collection. Usyk, now a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion – and three times in all after previously mastering the cruiserweight division – dominated the opening four rounds. And early in the fifth he dropped Dubois to the canvas. Moments later he finished the fight in decisive fashion after a trademark left hook left his British rival unable to beat the count one minute and 52 seconds into the round.
