Amtrak seeking partner to build 240-mile Texas high-speed rail project
Amtrak procurement documents published this week revealed the national passenger railroad company is releasing a request for qualifications (RFQ) to prospective firms for the Dallas to Houston High-Speed Rail Project.
That project marks a 240-mile endeavor poised to linking the two metropolitan areas within 90 minutes. The trains are expected to travel up to 205 miles per hour, and an intermediate stop in Brazos Valley is planned as part of the project proposal, according to Amtrak RFQ details.
'Amtrak is working to confirm the viability of the concept of a dedicated high-speed rail route between Dallas and Houston,' a spokesperson told KXAN. 'As part of these efforts, we are seeking to identify the interest of potential partners through responses to this Request for Qualifications process.'
The selected delivery partner will assist in managing the program, design work, construction, quality management and procurements, among other responsibilities noted in the RFQ.

High-speed rail is a transportation area that has captured a growing number of Texas officials' interest in recent years. State Rep. John Bucy III, D-Austin, filed House Bill 483 back in November that, if passed, would allocate state funding to support the development of high-speed rail linking Dallas, Austin and San Antonio along the Interstate 35 corridor.
Bucy told KXAN in November ample mobility choices in Central Texas will help bolster the region and state's economy while also minimizing congestion and gridlock. State Sen. Sarah Eckhardt, D-Austin, filed an accompanying bill in the Texas Senate on Nov. 21.
Texans and those visiting our great state deserve robust options for travel and commuting. The IH-35 corridor is a major hub for work and recreation, and it only makes sense that high speed rail is an option for this corridor.
You could live and work in Dallas, go to a meeting in Austin, have dinner in San Antonio, and be home in time to put your kids to bed. All of that without having to sit in heavy traffic or go through airport security.
It's time for Texas to lead once more on infrastructure, including on transit. Making Texas as good as its promise must include extensive and modern transit systems.
State Rep. John Bucy III (D-Austin)
Earlier in the fall, Travis County Judge Andy Brown and Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai announced the creation of the Texas Passenger Rail Advisory Committee, with the goal of advocating for expanded rail funding in the 2025 Texas legislative session. Both Brown and Sakai championed the alternative transit mode as a means of bridging the San Antonio and Austin metro areas, minimizing congestion and traffic-related pollution and promoting economic opportunities within the transit corridor.
That isn't to say there hasn't been some pushback from state leaders. Rep. Cody Harris, R-Palestine, filed HB 1402 on Nov. 19, which, if passed, would prohibit allocating funds 'to pay for the alteration of a roadway related to the construction of a high-speed rail project operated by a public or private entity.'

Triumph Financial, Inc. (TFIN): A Bull Case Theory
We came across a bullish thesis on Triumph Financial, Inc. on by HighLine09. In this article, we will summarize the bulls' thesis on TFIN. Triumph Financial, Inc.'s share was trading at $55.96 as of August 4th. TFIN's trailing P/E was 124.66 according to Yahoo Finance. A close-up of a cash register, with passengers lined up at the window, illustrating the company's payments and holdings. Triumph Financial (TFIN), a Dallas-based financial holding company, has evolved from a traditional community bank into a fintech platform focused on modernizing the trucking industry's financial infrastructure. Positioned as a non-traditional community bank, Triumph operates through four segments—Banking, Factoring, Payments, and Intelligence—creating an integrated ecosystem to streamline freight transactions. The company's freight factoring arm provides immediate liquidity to trucking firms, leveraging its banking subsidiary for low-cost funding, and has achieved high returns through invoice purchases. By introducing Factoring-as-a-Service (FaaS) and AI-driven instant decision models, Triumph has extended its technology to large brokers, reinforcing its market presence and monetizing its platform. The Payments division, anchored by TriumphPay, addresses the inefficiencies and fraud risks inherent in analog payment systems. With its acquisition of HubTran, Triumph enhanced auditing capabilities and now processes over 50% of U.S. brokered freight transactions, touching $30.5 billion in annualized volume. Complementing this is LoadPay, a digital wallet offering 24/7 access to funds for small carriers, bypassing traditional ACH systems while building loyalty through integrated financial solutions. The Intelligence segment, launched in late 2024, leverages Triumph's vast, neutral dataset to deliver actionable insights and dynamic pricing through recent acquisitions like and ISO, boasting gross margins above 90%. Despite a challenging freight recession and declining EPS since 2021, Triumph continues to invest heavily in technology, prioritizing scale and network density before monetization. Management expects its fee-based revenues from Payments, LoadPay, FaaS, and Intelligence to surpass historical factoring income by late 2025, offering higher-margin, resilient earnings. With catalysts including freight market normalization and product adoption, Triumph is positioned to become the dominant digital payments and intelligence network in trucking, unlocking significant long-term value. Texas redistricting: What's at stake as Republicans aim to pick up 5 House seats
President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed Republicans are "entitled to five more seats" in Texas, where a redistricting battle is playing out among state lawmakers. But the Lone Star State's political showdown has national implications, with control of the U.S. House potentially at stake. Republicans started the 119th Congress with the smallest House majority in nearly 100 years. Currently, the party has a 219-212 majority with four vacancies. When those vacancies are filled, Democrats would need to only net three seats next November to win back the House. House Speaker Mike Johnson can only afford to lose three Republican in any vote where all members are present. The slim margin created some headaches for Johnson in delivering Trump's sweeping tax cut and spending bill, rewriting cryptocurrency rules and more. In a bid to defend the fragile majority, or even expand it, Trump's political operation approached Texas Republicans in June about redrawing the state's congressional map ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Midterm elections historically have been unkind to the president's party, though Johnson said last week when Texas Republicans introduced the new maps that the GOP would "defy history" and "grow the majority in the House" in next year's races. The new map could net Republicans between three and five seats if enacted, analysts previously told ABC News. The proposed changes would impact districts in Austin, Dallas and Houston -- areas that have typically voted blue. The Texas redistricting effort, which are rarely done mid-decade between the census, has prompted swift pushback from Democrats. Democratic lawmakers fled the state in protest, denying Republicans the necessary quorum to vote on enacting the new map. In response, Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to arrest the Democrats and bring them back to Austin. President Trump on Tuesday defended the move in a phone interview with CNBC. "We have an opportunity in Texas to pick up five seats. We have a really good governor, and we have good people in Texas. And I won Texas, I got the highest vote in the history of Texas as you probably know. And we are entitled to five more seats," Trump said. Democratic leaders have pledged to try to counter the Texas Republican effort with new maps of their own. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday, at a news conference alongside several Texas House Democrats in Albany, said she will try to gerrymander her state's map -- though noted it was unlikely to be done before the 2026 midterms. "We're already working on a legislative process, reviewing our legal strategies, and we'll do everything in our power to stop this brazen assault," Hochul said. "The gloves are off, and I say 'Bring it on.'" California Gov. Gavin Newsom, too, said if Texas moved forward with the new map then they would respond by putting their own redistricting plan before voters this November. Both states currently use independent commissions to draw their maps following constitutional amendments.
