San Sebastian outlasts LPU to snap four-game skid
San Sebastian College-Recoletos overcame a tough challenge from Lyceum of the Philippines University, 30-28, 21-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-8, on Saturday in the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball tournament at the San Andres Gym in Manila.
The win came after San Sebastian lost four consecutive games against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, and Mapua University.
After falling in Sets 2 and 3, the Golden Stags managed to recover and claimed the fourth set before momentum shifted on their end as they took an early 7-2 lead in the deciding frame.
Jun Edang's attack gave a glimmer of hope to the Pirates' run but Kyle Villamor answered to widen the lead. The Golden Stags then continued to cruise to a 10-4 lead before Christian Alba went clutch in the final stretch to claim the victory.
Alba led the Golden Stags with 26 points from 20 attacks, four blocks, and two aces, while Villamor added 18 points on top of 30 receptions and seven digs. Aaron Binondo added 11 while Enzo Leal showed up for defense with 15 receptions and 10 digs as San Sebastian improved to 5-12.
Chris Dumasig had 26 out of LPU's 27 excellent sets as five players scored in double digits for the Pirates. Jhon Icon Aquino had 26 points, Jun Edang had 22, while Isaiah Santos had 20 points. Mark Lanorio and David Talento had 12 and 10 points, respectively, as LPU moved to 2-14.
The Golden Stags will close its campaign on Tuesday against Emilio Aguinaldo College, while LPU will still take on Arellano University and Benilde next week.

Mapua University is host of NCAA Season 101
Mapua University will be the host of NCAA Season 101. Season 100 host Lyceum University handed the hosting duties to Mapua during a formal ceremony on July 8, 2025. It will be the first time in 10 years that Mapua will serve as the league host since Season 91. Season 101 will kick off in October 2025. Before Season 101 begins, kick-off activities will take place starting in August, Mapua President Dodjie Maestrocampo told GMA Sports "There are a lot of plans that are in store. There will be changes on how we do our competitions, hoping that the league will be more exciting and more engaging,' he said in an article written by GMA Integrated News' Bea Micaller. SEASON 100 NCAA's historic Season 100 concluded with San Beda University as overall champion in both the juniors and seniors divisions. San Beda swept the men's and women's divisions in taekwondo and swimming, and ruled the men's football event. The university also dominated in chess and table tennis.

San Beda University emerged as the big winner in the previous season with the Mendiola crew capturing the Season 100 overall championships in both the juniors and seniors divisions. San Beda swept the men's and women's divisions of taekwondo and swimming while also ruling the men's football event to complete its 26th overall crown. The longtime NCAA member also dominated chess and table tennis to seize the general championship for the second straight year now. After a historic centennial edition, the NCAA now hopes to begin a new era in Season 101, which will be hosted by Mapua University. In a ceremony on Tuesday, Season 100 host Lyceum of the Philippines University formally handed the hosting duties to Mapua as the league eyes to kick off Season 101 in October. "We just finished our meeting a while ago and we agreed that we are going to formally open the Season 101 in October but there will be a kick-off activities in August," Mapua president Dodjie Maestrocampo said. "There are a lot of plans that are in store. There will be changes on how we do our competitions, hoping that the league will be more exciting and more engaging."
